Interview with Simon Lennon as he discusses Ben and Aaron's future:
How have you been enjoying your Emmerdale experience so far? I’ve absolutely loved it. Obviously, with the pandemic, there have been challenges, but the Emmerdale family is wonderful and have made me feel so welcome!
Is it good for you to explore Ben's backstory and his issues with his dad Warren? Definitely. There are so many obstacles that come with having a loved one who is an alcoholic. It can manifest in so many ways for the person struggling with it, and the people close to them. Steve, who plays Warren, is a brilliant actor and it’s been amazing to explore a bit about Ben’s private life.
Aaron suggests that he collects all of his stuff and cuts ties with Warren - but what is in Ben's mind? His dad is getting under his skin... Ben has been involved in his Dad’s journey with alcoholism for years. Which is why he has tried to help Aaron with Liv, without giving away any of his own difficulties. Ben prides himself on being a support to others, and therefore finds it so hard to face up to his own demons and the obstacles he’s facing with his Dad. It’s not as easy as just cutting ties, especially when family is involved. How does Ben feel towards Liv, seeing what she is going through mirroring what his dad went through? Ultimately, he wants to help her. He’s seen someone he loves go through the dark side of alcohol addiction and wants to support Liv and Aaron, when they need it. Liv was always such a big supporter of Aaron and Ben, in the early days, so Ben definitely has a soft spot for her in his heart. Would you say he would want to help her? Could he be the key to her fighting back against her addiction? He wouldn’t necessarily be the key. But with his personal history with his Dad, he knows a lot about different stages of the trauma and struggle that come with alcoholism. He wants to be there and support where he can.
Why doesn't Ben move in with Aaron? Is it purely because of Liv's alcoholism or is there an element that it's too soon? Ben’s selflessness gets the better of him and all of his struggles come to the surface. He decides that moving from living with one alcoholic to another isn’t a great idea, right now. He needs some space from it, to deal with his own problems - so moving in with Aaron and Liv might be a little too premature.
Does Ben love Aaron? Ben has a huge amount of love for Aaron. It’s still the early stages for them. They’re still learning about each other. The more time they spend together, the closer they become. They care a lot for one another and have each other’s backs. And I think that’s a beautiful thing.
How would he feel if he knew Aaron was blaming Liv? Would he feel torn as he is caught in the middle here? Absolutely. The last thing Ben wants is to drive a wedge between Aaron and Liv. In trying to help, his goal has always been to bring them closer and help bridge any gulfs that have emerged between them. His intentions are good, just sometimes things don’t always work out how you plan them to.
Does part of Ben wonder if he can match up to Robert in Aaron's heart? Ben and Aaron are a separate entity to Aaron and Robert. Ben never knew Robert so he only knows of Aaron’s previous relationship with him. Obviously Robert was a huge part of Aaron’s life and I think Ben and Aaron’s relationship is something completely new.
Would you like to see them have a future? Of course. They have already been through so much together. Relationships aren’t easy. Especially when there is past trauma involved. But they’re strong as a couple and I think they deserve to be happy.
What can you tease is ahead for Ben? As Ben’s hidden home life comes to the forefront, his relationships in the village will be tested. We’ll learn more about Ben as an individual and what is really happening behind his resilient facade.

From a newly released interview with Isobel Steele about Liv hitting rock bottom in Emmerdale. (This was a long interview covering a wide range of questions. I've only included the few relating to her relationship with Aaron) :
Does Liv believe it when she tells Aaron she can stop drinking whenever she wants? No I don’t think she does. She would like to believe it. She’s at a point in her addiction where denying it and pretending everything’s okay is easier than to stop and address the issues. It’s frustrating to watch and play but it’s a necessary part of the process, she’ll eventually get to the point where she actually wants to change and be proactive rather than bury her head in the sand.
What’s Aaron reaction when he catches Liv and Jacob together? The scene was interesting, Aaron and Liv both seen each other very vulnerable but a different type of vulnerable, she’s starting to undress, it’s really awkward, they’re brother and sister – he’s never seen her like that. She’s asexual and he’s never seen her like that before, they don’t have that kind of relationship, they never discuss it. So beyond awkward and uncomfortable. It’s not her, she’s pretending to be someone she isn’t then gets caught. At end of scene, she doesn’t say anything because she has nothing to say, quite clear what’s happened.
Does he feel pure anger? Tough love. He’s frustrated she’s not on the right path, Aaron is told by Chas to be tougher. To leave her to it and she’ll come to her own senses. She tries to use that advice. “Don’t push her into it, you have to decide you want to be sober for you”. She feels he has a go all the time, he thinks she’s arrogant. They clash. He tries to a different approach, desperate to do anything to help her see sense.
Will she need Aaron’s support? I think she could have all the people in the world, but the one person she needs – the one person she’s always needed – is Aaron. Mending that relationship has to be top of her list after all this. They’ve got such a good bond, it’s a shame it’s got so bad. It’s not been this bad ever since I joined the show! It’s the worst it’s possibly been.

Thursday 26 August:
Liv confides in Gabby. She explains that she can remember struggling with Noah when she was drunk last night.
Gabby is extremely concerned and reflects on her own recent troubles with Noah. She wonders whether this is the aftermath of rape.
Aaron overhears the conversation and goes off to confront Noah.

New interview with Danny from the Metro newsletter:
Danny Miller discusses Aaron's exit
How have things been between Aaron and Liv?
"From the previous episodes, we’ve see Liv becoming more back to her old ways. Aaron’s convinced she’s got a sponsor and using the counsellor and support group that gives her a real way into a new life. When things start to get tough, she relapses, and she’s quite flippant about the whole situation – that she’s going to get help and sort herself out and seek guidance from various counsellors. It just doesn’t happen.
Then Ben wants a new job and he finds one in Newquay. There’s a discussion between Aaron and Ben as to whether they will go. And will it be Ben? Will it be Ben and Aaron? Will it be Ben, Aaron and Liv? Liv isn’t involved in that discussion, and when they pitch the idea to her, it doesn’t go down well, as she starts to believe Ben’s starting to control Aaron to get her away from him, with all the paranoia from the drinking.
She decides to drink again to block out what’s happening and that she might be losing what’s left of her family. She deals with it in completely the wrong way, and that makes Aaron and Ben’s decision become a little bit easier. Aaron is at the end of his tether with Liv because of how much he’s supported her over the past year with Paul and the drinking, Vinny and Mandy, and he’s never left her alone - despite her pushing him away. Between Ben and Aaron things are good, but between Ben and Liv – and Ben, Aaron and Liv – it’s two different sides!"
Ben is murdered – how has Aaron been feeling since he found out Ben has died?
"It’s a whirlwind of emotions for Aaron, unfortunately. As per usual, he doesn’t really know how to deal with certain things, especially tragedy like this. Also bearing in mind that this is his second boyfriend who died, his ex-husband is in prison, his sister is looking like she could end up going to prison. A bit like Liv, how she deals with things by self-harming in a way by drinking, I think there are certain moments you think Aaron is at the end of his tether, and he may turn back to his mental health issues. He could go back to self-harming or particularly worse, because he convinced himself this was a new start. He found a boyfriend who was very simple in terms of him having no problems, like ex relationships that didn’t work out or dealing with his sexuality, or anything he’s dealt with in the past with his previous partners.
He’s found someone who is just a nice person and he doesn’t need to look after him or keep his eye on him. He sees the change in his life he needed in the form of Ben. He’s completely and utterly in love with him by the time he dies, because he sees his new life in Cornwall and he wants to move forward with him in a stable relationship. Just as he’s finally got what he wanted in his life, it’s ripped away from him in the most harrowing way."
They’re not that sure what has gone on. A big question mark over Liv’s involvement. How is he feeling about that?
"I think originally, he’s just shell-shocked that she’s found herself in this position. Aaron knows she’s tried to sabotage his job. She’s had a go at Aaron a few times, saying he’s controlling Aaron which obviously wasn’t the truth. She looks at it as another opportunity to drink and then she has a fight with Ben and Ben records her. The plan was to give evidence to Aaron so that he could see this is what she’s like when he’s not around in the hopes of pulling the rug from under Aaron, so as to say: ‘you need to wake up! You’ve done all you can for her. You’ve given her all the right help; she’s still kicking the mud in your face’
That backfires, because he doesn’t get to show her that video personally. Liv is blind drunk so she can’t remember a single thing - nothing to say she honestly did not kill him. All the evidence is stacked against her, and that’s when Aaron finds out that Liv has the phone of Ben’s, and that’s when he sees the video and starts to ask if she could’ve done this. He genuinely doesn’t know what to believe? He genuinely doesn’t! He’s always been there for her, but given the last six months of drinking and lying, to see this video of someone he doesn’t recognise, he thinks maybe the anger got too much and she accidentally killed him. I think anyone in their right mind would think it’s possible because she can’t remember. She’s not able to give any evidence to clear her name."
Before going to court, he chats to Chas about wanting to disappear. What happens in that conversation?
"I think it’s a little bit subliminal in terms of what he actually means. Because Ben is gone, but he wanted to disappear with Ben to Newquay, so I think it’s a kind of open-ended. We know he’s suffered a lot with mental health and when things get bad, he turns anger on himself, and hurts himself for it. Subliminally, it makes it feel like the worst-case scenario of him wanting to disappear and not be here anymore, which I think we all know what that points towards. But also, it could quite openly mean that he wants to disappear and leave the village, and leave all the family behind him and start a fresh new life on his own.
It’s a bit open, and I think that’s what worries Chas: it’s not bang on the nose. He won’t say what he means: does he want to run away? Or does he possibly want to end his life and take that route which we all hope he doesn’t? It’s a worrying time for Chas."
He’s struggling to find strength to visit Liv before court, and he goes to see her. What does he say to her?[/b]
"It’s a case of: is he going to turn up in court when the hearing is happening or is he going to leave her and walk away from her? Or is he meaning that he can’t keep coming to see her in prison and court to see her and talk to her? Is it just easier to wait for the outcome of what’s happening? From Liv’s point of view, Aaron has given up.
He doesn’t have the strength to support her while grieving Ben, and with all that thrown in with Liv, he quite rightly says: ‘I’ve got to look after myself.’ She’s not a kid anymore, she’s able to look after herself, Aaron’s done everything he can. If he hadn’t done all the things he’s done in the past, I would say he’s maybe given up a bit too early on her, but he’s sorted her out with rehab and help. Even when she’s been in hospital, he’s been by her beside and forgiven her. She keeps throwing it back in his face and disrespecting him. That’s when he decides [about Liv] regardless of whether he’s going, and the decision is final."

From the new Metro News Letter - Danny Miller says goodbye to Emmerdale
Can you talk about Aaron's decision? Aaron has finally put himself first. He’s driven out of the village feeling as though Ben is watching over him. He didn’t want to go backwards, fall back into hurting himself and running, starving himself, he finally decides he’s going to have a fresh break and find normality again.
Tell us about his final scenes with Liv He goes to see Liv and says how he’s feeling, as opposed to asking how she is. On this occasion, he puts himself first and has the difficult conversation with her. I’ve never had to play a scene where my emotions were really there. That was my final goodbye to Izzy, it was really hard to play in terms of emotion. As Danny, I really wanted to break down but for Aaron, he had to hold it together, he had to show Liv this is the moment he’s leaving her.
Liv’s word has become unreliable over the past few months, all evidence is stacking against her when it comes to Ben’s murder. If Aaron hadn’t seen the video, things might’ve been different, he’s disgusted watching the video, horrified Liv can speak to anyone like that let alone Ben. All this happens when she’s drinking, despite her saying she’s going to stop. Aaron realises Liv isn’t listening and respecting him anymore. In Aaron’s head, all Liv has done is throw support back in his face, pushing him away and eventually, they don’t have a good relationship anymore. Aaron really tried, but Liv has pushed him too far and now, he’s going to look after himself. Liv’s a young lady, Aaron’s attitude is that she needs to stand on her own two feet.
How were the scenes filming with Lucy and Jeff? So hard. Acting with Lucy and Dominic, I’ve always seen them as parental figures. In terms of what Lucy and Dom have done for me, they’ve really helped mould me into the person I am today. The one with Cain isn’t as emotional, it’s Cain! Jeff is quite an emotional person, and we get on very well, naturally a bit of emotion came into his performance as well. To say goodbye to Lucy was so hard, she’s always there for me and Dominic too. It was hard and I was dreading filming the scenes. It was fitting my final scene was with Lucy, because my first ever scene was with her too.
What are your plans for the future? I’m excited to see what happens. I don’t have any plans for next year, I’m currently in the castle now! This has been a long time coming. There is a couple of things for May, June next year, I’d like to show people a different side of Danny and not just Aaron. I’d like to show people I can smile!
Are you glad the door has been left open for Aaron? Yes definitely. It’s been like a second home, you never know what will happen in three, four years, it’s a nod to Aaron that they don’t just want to end his journey here. I feel very comforted by the fact I could return in the future.

Danny Miller reveals all on his Emmerdale return * Interview with Metro Soaps. Are you around for the 50th anniversary filming?Yes, I am. It’s a short stint, 6 and a half weeks, I think. I never imagined after I’m A Celebrity that I’d come back for a long period of time so soon, so when they called and asked if I’d like to be a part of the 50th, I was instantly interested. I haven’t been away for a long time, but I knew the storylines which attracted me to come back and celebrate what was such a huge part of my life. Emmerdale has been huge for me, it was an honour that I got asked to return and say happy birthday. It’s been really nice getting back and seeing everyone, a lot of new and old faces too.Did you keep in touch with any cast and crew?Yes! Loads. Dominic, Lucy, a lot of people I keep in regular contact with. It felt like I hadn’t really been away when I returned. I was nervous, I didn’t want people to think I was just slotting back in or it was easy. It’s great. When you play Aaron again, is it easy? Did it take a while to get into the character?I was given some of Aaron’s jackets when I left, they got a couple of new things in as well. They put me in trainers first and it just didn’t feel right! I think Aaron wears more of a Doc Martin, Timberland boot – trainers didn’t feel right! It’s different around different characters. I have a different relationship with Lucy than Izzy, it’s not difficult to find those once you’re back. Do you want Aaron and Liv to reunite?Absolutely. When I left, it was in the middle of Meena’s storyline, it was very nice he was a part of the storyline but left off the back of it. It’s been difficult to slip back into it, but I’ve enjoyed it. In terms of Liv, I think it was unfortunate he left at that time, but I do think it’s made for a better return. It sounds like you’re grateful Aaron wasn’t one of Meena’s victims!I think Aaron’s a lot harder than Meena! It’s a risk, definitely. You can’t just ask to not be killed off; I was very grateful the team allowed me to leave in the way Aaron did.Aaron did do a runner...Yes, he did. I think that relationship, it was forgotten how toxic it had become. Liv was throwing bottles of vodka, Aaron was worrying all of the time, there was a lot of worry with her, and I think in the past, Aaron always worried about everybody else but then when he decides he’s going to start worrying about himself, it’s too late, which has led him down some dark paths. This time, he needed to be selfish and look out for himself, he had always looked after Liv, I think at that point it was really needed to give Aaron a break. When Aaron returns, within minutes he’s arrested, his he worried he might actually spend time in a cell rather than making up with his sister?Yes, it absolutely happens at the wrong time. He walks in, sees a stranger in his house, he could be anybody but given the state of the panic, Aaron just deals with it by punching as always. Just as that happens, Harriet walks in so she has no choice but to arrest him. There’s not really much choice for him, it’s just bad timing.Did Harriet overreact?Well, she’s a police officer. She walked in to arrest Terry but ends up arresting them both.Chas turns up, is she upset Aaron doesn’t tell her that he’s back? She’s upset until he gets the chance to explain things. Aaron was back to see Faith, knowing she’s unwell, so he would’ve come back to surprise Chas and the family, but then the timing of it, he goes back to Mill Cottage and doesn’t get the chance to surprise Chas – that comes in the form of her seeing him arrested.Aaron has some scenes with Faith...They are really lovely. Sally is a fantastic actress, to be able to play out some really nice scenes where Faith gives Aaron advice but also, he gives her some advice, it’s really nice but really hard to not get emotional – we were both blubbering by the end! We discussed some of our personal experiences beforehand and I learnt so much about Sally and how incredible she is. To get the opportunity to share those scenes with her was amazing and I think they’ll be really effective as well, we touch on so many issues – mental health wise, what Faith is going through compared to what Aaron went through with Jackson – he gets a mention which is nice.Aaron realises how ill Faith is at that point?Yes I think the way she’s talking is what gets to him and obviously when he first sees her she’s very frail and pale and I think it just shocks him more than ever like wow, she really is deteriorating so yes, it’s then when he realises that he doesn’t know but she has obviously got something up her sleeve.Would you have liked Robert to be part of the anniversary?Yes it would’ve been nice, Jane and the team and she mentioned there was gonna be a lot action packed stuff for the 50th, which there is, but I was on holiday at the time and I kind of imagined there’d be some crazy action thing just to really step outside, that it would be some action packed thing where maybe Aaron could turn up and kidnap Robert out of prison, it was just stupid talk, I was actually telling Ryan about it. But no, it would’ve been really nice to have him back but it’s near impossible.Because he’s gone down for life?Well soap characters have done that before and they come back six years later, there’s always ways and means in soap.Do you still get asked about Robert and Aaron? They were so iconicOh all the time yeah, we were talking about it on a podcast not so long ago and talking about on screen couples, I think icons isn’t the right word but I can’t think of anything else, maybe role models, Robert and Aaron led a relationship that was represented by so many people out there and it really helped change some people, people still tell me that now. It was always going to be a question I was asked, how’s Robert or where’s Robert when people ask you in the street but yes they were a great soap couple and it was nice to be a part of and to share it with Ryan. Will we find out where Aaron has been? He went to see Adam didn’t he? Has she moved on, got anyone else?Yes, he’s got a boyfriend, he was in France with Adam, then they both moved to Italy and then Aaron’s met this guy called Marco and he talks about him quite a lot about, like Aaron always does, this is for keeps, this is for good, he’s said that about everyone and then he’s in another relationship. He’s been in Italy for the majority of the time from France. How would Aaron feel if he were to found out his mum was having an affair with Al behind Paddy’s back?To have that out in the moment, it’s tough to watch because I think everybody loves Paddy and Chas and particularly Aaron, Paddy is his dad in Aaron’s eyes - his dad robbed him of a life really and Paddy gave him one and looked after him, even when him and Chas split up. He came out to Paddy and Paddy helped him deal with his sexuality and all the self harm stuff. I think it would be worse than the other way round in Aaron’s eyes, if Paddy was cheating, he would be more angry at Chas cheating than Paddy cheating. So yes he’s got strong feelings, I don’t think he’s going to like it at all.Would he be able to forgive his mother and do you think he’d tell Paddy?I think he’d want to tell Paddy every time but his mum’s going through a lot, it’s a timing thing, Faith’s really not well and Chas is playing away so the family could potentially be destroyed at the wrong time so I think his conscience is getting the better of him to tell people what’s happened, seeing Paddy and worrying about the family and what will happen and will Faith die and would she end up taking that with her instead of the happy memories of her family so it’s a lot to play with, it’s not just a case of telling Paddy. His morals are always in the right place and he’s honest and I think it would kill him not to tell Paddy.Have you caught up with the other actors who are back for the 50th, like Liz Estensen?I was with Liz yesterday, I’ve had a couple of scenes with Amy (Walsh), I saw Liz yesterday and we were having a chat in the green room, it was really nice to see her, I always got on with Liz really well and it was so good to see her. She texted me after I’m a Celebrity congratulating me but I hadn’t seen the message because I didn’t have my phone back till the end of December so I missed the message. She asked me ‘Did you get the message?’ So I looked through my messages and it was unread quite far down as it was December, I was like sorry I didn’t reply to it, we had a bit of a laugh about that. It was really nice to see her, she looks really well and I love her to bits.Would you be open to returning on a more regular basis or was it just nice to be back for a short stint? It was just nice to be back for a short stint and see everybody, it’s like going to a party every day and just catching up with people all over the place, cast and crew. I’ve got a few things on at the end of the year, a pantomime and stuff and then I’ve got a job next year as well so it’s just not the right time at the moment. But I’m not one of those actors that say ‘No, that’s it now, I’ve shelved it’, as I said it’s a massive part of my life, a huge part of my life and it always will be. There’s never a chance of me ever saying I’ll never go back.If they had a 60th, could you see Aaron being a part of that? One of the old men in the pub?Potentially, it depends how many kids I’ve got by then and how much of my mortgage needs paying. It’s one of those things, if it’s the right time. It’s a big part of my life and I wouldn’t ever necessarily turn it off. Obviously when I got the Bond role there might be a chance that I wouldn’t then come back!50 years - which stories are you most proud of?It’s obviously a bit dark but the more challenging storylines, the dark storylines if you like, a lot of Aaron’s storylines was mentally challenging for me and I had to dig deep and find something to play these big stories. Coming out, dealing with Jackson being hit by a train then having to assist him in suicide, leaving the village and coming back and meeting Robert and going through all that affair of Robert cheating on Chrissie with him and going on to get married and Robert leaving for prison, there’s just so many of them. I couldn’t necessarily pick out a time that I enjoyed the most, so many different scenes and storylines with so many of my friends that they are now was something that I’ll never forget. It’s not something you can ever pay for really or wish for, it was just amazing when you think back of not just mine but all the stories of 15 years or whatever that I’ve been there, it’s just been amazing what they’ve been able to achieve, so many different writers and directors. i’m just proud of the whole show and as I say, it was a massive reason why I thought yeah, it would be really nice to be back and wish Emmerdale happy 50th.

Apparently Aaron won't just be dealing with the loss of his grandma Faith but also his sister Liv during this return stint. Did the show decide to go all in since Danny Miller agreed to reprise his role for the anniversary? If reports are to be believed, Isobel who plays Liv quit and her character will be killed off later this year. www.radiotimes.com/tv/soaps/emmerdale/emmerdale-live-dingle-loss-shocking-comment/

I haven't been keeping up with the spoilers for Ethan/Marcus but it looks like they have a story starting today. (Note: I realize they kept any mention of Arthur out of the past week's spoilers, so although he's absent in upcoming spoilers through January 7th, he may still face the repercussions of being outed to his schoolmates by Elliott.)
Thursday, 15 Dec - Elsewhere, will Ethan regret inviting his boss into his home? Ethan's boss, Greg, has been invited for a meal by Ethan. Marcus proves to be a calming presence. While Ethan is flustered, Marcus helps to maintain a calm atmosphere.
Friday, 16 Dec - Marcus attempts to dismiss his own misgivings. He's uncomfortable after yesterday.
Monday, 19 Dec - Elsewhere, Marcus is alarmed to hear Greg is coming for lunch and makes an excuse to Ethan. Later, Marcus has a change of heart and joins him but could he regret this? Marcus is uncomfortable when Ethan's boss Greg comes for lunch again. Marcus feels awkward; Greg's behaviour last week bothered him.
Tuesday, December 20: Ethan and Marcus make plans for the future. They're planning to get their own place.
