Just a quick update for anyone who may not have been keeping up to date after the non-wedding and failure of Caleb's plan to steal Kim Tate's money.

Caleb decided to brazen it out in the village. He bought Mill Cottage (where Aaron and Robert had previously lived) from Vinny Dingle and (conveniently) aggrivated most of the folks in the village so that when he was later pushed off a high ridge, there would be lots of suspects. He was found, still alive the next day by Cain and was rushed to hospital where he has been in an induced coma ever since. Chas managed to get Nicky's mobile phone number and left him a voicemail...

Talk us through Nicky’s motives in pushing his dad

Yeah, so basically Nicky left the village on the wedding day and then he comes back to try and make amends with his father. But as he’s coming back into the village, he finds out that Caleb has now bought Mill Cottage and not only bought it, but he’s given them over asking price, he’s always had more than enough money which was the reason why - he lied to Nicky to say that he had no money and that my mum was going to lose her house and the reason we were getting revenge was to look after my mum.

So he just lied to me all the way through, and it’s only at that point that I realise and find out that information. I then follow him into the woods I think it’s just a spur of the moment, he’s backed into a corner, he feels betrayed, hurt, and something just comes over him, he makes a decision and anger gets the better of him.


How would he feel if Caleb died?

Oh I think the moment he pushes him, he feels massive regret. But also a mix of relief, just because he’s felt as though his dad’s manipulated him for so long and obviously betrayed him. But he still loves his dad, and it would be tragic if he was to die and if they find out it was him, he could go to prison. But if they also didn’t find out it was Nicky, then there could be relief there as well.


The viewers are fond of Nicky and Ally, is there a future for them?

I think Nicky loves Ally, massively. But after seeing what Nicky’s been up to, Ally doesn't seem interested at all and leaves so I think it’s actually more on Ally than it is on Nicky. I think he would happily get with him and spend his life with him.


Nicky’s told a lot of lies, are they redeemable?

Yeah I think it’s definitely redeemable because I think the lies are not really Nicky’s lies. They’re being fed to him by his dad and I think Nicky’s just been the middle-man for a lot of it. I don't think they’re actually his thoughts, or his feelings.


Is Nicky terrified for his dad?

He is scared of him because there have been plenty of scenes where he’ll try to stand up to him, but he never seems to succeed. So he definitely feels inferior to him.


When his story came out, did you always know Nicky was the culprit?

I did actually know this because Jane, the producer, did actually tell me this a couple of months in advance so I was excited to see how it would be shot - I think it’s going to look really good.


And do you know if Nicky’s done anything like this in the past?

We haven’t learnt massive amounts about Nicky’s background, a lot of what you’ve learned have been lies, they’ve fabricated this whole situation to try and get revenge. But I don’t think he’s a massively aggressive person, but I think everyone’s got the capacity, depending on the situation they’re in, to do anything. So given the circumstances, maybe he could do it again, yeah.


Could this not be a one off incident then?

Yeah, maybe he could be influenced by the situations and do these things again, we don’t know yet.


If Caleb does survive this, what will their relationship be? Can they resolve this?

Lewis: I’d like to think they could resolve it, but from Caleb’s part, I’ve not only messed up his whole plan of getting Home Farm, getting revenge and getting money back, I’ve also tried to kill him [laughs]. So there’s a mountain to climb before he’ll forgive me, if he survives.

Will Ash (Caleb): Yeah, I mean there’s definitely a mountain, but there’s also a lot of remorse on Caleb’s part. It’s only now that he’s got a bit of perspective, he can see how badly he treated his son and that he needs to make up for that. Caleb’s not a big one for apologising and admitting that he’s wrong, so I don’t think he’s ever really going to say that to his son. But he will show that to him and moving forward, I don’t think he’d treat Nicky like that again.


If he were to survive, would you like to see them form a relationship?

Will: Yeah, definitely, I think certainly Caleb ultimately wants his son to be happy and it’s almost like it’s made him realising that he’s not just a pawn in his game, they can have a relationship, they can have a good, solid, loving, father, son relationship in Emmerdale, in the village.


Would you like that, Lewis?

Yeah, I think you’ve only really seen them connect over a mission really. Since the start, you’ve only seen them with an end goal about Home Farm. It would be nice to see how they connect outside of that mission with that being in the past.


Have you seen the fan reaction to Nicky?

I am on social media, I try not to look too much at the comments just because sometimes I think it can influence you and can take you down the wrong path. So I try to keep a clear mind on the script and how the scenes have been going just so I can navigate it and not be influenced by other people.


Would you like more backstory and more people in their family?

Will: Yeah, there’s huge potential. We’ve talked about my ex-wife, Nicky’s mum so there’s already a bit of a picture of that character even though she hasn’t been in it. We’ve talked about her quite a lot. Caleb said to Leyla about his kids, plural, we’ve never had that discussion with the producer, but Nicky might have siblings, I might have other kids, so there’s potential for those characters to come into it. I think it would be nice to flesh it out, there’s a lot of backstory there.

Lewis: Yeah I think it would be nice if my mum was to come in. She’s been mentioned so much and she’s been such a heavy part of our storyline from the beginning. It would be nice to see that relationship between me and her, also, my dad and her, that seems to be really complex as well.
