I don't really have a problem with them not immediately putting Arthur in a romance (yes, other characters around his age have had more, but some, like the actors who play Noah, Amelia and Samson, are all in their late teens or early twenties, and even then they had nowhere near the level of sexual material the show was giving young actors in the early '00s, or as you mentioned, with Jacob). I also don't have a problem with other characters worrying about Marshall - they have to fill up 6 episodes a week, and most of those characters have had plenty of other story (especially Cathy of late). The problem for me is Arthur just had a coming out story and is now in this storyline, rather than his own story being able to breathe. It feels like Marshall is just a short term character and this is something that runs too closely with Arthur's own story, rather than letting Arthur develop more in his own right, then maybe later this year, having the Marshall story. It comes off a bit to me as trying to capitalize on a trend. Honestly I would be fine with them not giving him romantic options, but since they have, I'm bemused that it's become All About Marshall. I don't mind the actor but it just feel low stakes because Marshall and Colin never existed outside of this story, and will probably cease to exist when it's over. Why not have the sexually-uncertain love interest be Heath or Elliott? That way, we could have key moments play out with characters like Bob or Jimmy. Yes, sure, these characters are fine with LGBTQ+ people in general but it often takes on a different tenor when it's their own kid. They suddenly convince themselves they're doing it for the kid's own safety, that they're confused/don't know who they are. Even if it's meant to be an educational story, I think it falls flat because the vast majority of homophobes don't resort to physical abuse of their gay child. The very real danger here is that homophobic parents still agree with everything Colin says but pat themselves on their back for supposedly not being bigots because they don't resort to physical abuse like he did. Instead they're all on Arthur's case for "pressuring" Marshall and Laurel's for "interfering" with the parenting of someone else's child. The concerned parent's claim that "you're too young to identify as gay" are not challenged at all - something that would play out very clearly if contrasted, for instance, with Heath's twin Cathy's attraction to boys being unquestioned or invalidated in the same way. I also have an instinctive dislike of stories where gay lads fall in love with their bullies. All things considered, Marshall isn't too bad an offender in that sense - I mean, there have been gay stories where the out guy is relentlessly tormented and gay-bashed by a closet case but we're supposed to delight in the ultimate outcome where he and the bully are mutually in love. (Just once, I'd like one of those types of stories to end with the victim getting his own back and leaving the bully in the dust.) Emmerdale has already done one of these harmful tropes in the very recent past (Aaron and Ben) so I really wish they wouldn't go back to that well again - unless it had been in service of the aforementioned reversal of the trope, where Arthur tells Marshall, "Sorry mate, I'm just not that into you after you set me up to be humiliated publicly". I know people have been saying the show is trying to capitalize on Heartstoppers, but I'm not really convinced. As I pointed out before, Alfie Clarke who plays Arthur joined the Emmerdale float at Leeds Pride last summer, and I suspect this story was already planned back then. For them to get to that point barely two months after Netflix acknowledged Heartstoppers' popularity with a two-season renewal would be lightning-fast, especially considering there would be additional approvals to go through when the story is to be led by a child actor. I also worry that this plays into the rightwing narrative that the TV industry is peddling what they misnomer as the "woke" agenda. If one side is actively opposed to the normalization of gay youth and relationships, and the other is indifferent, then we're in real danger of losing any impetus to inclusive storytelling and leaving gay kids without positive representation they can look up to. I know it would have meant the world to me if I'd seen a happily accepted gay boy on telly when I was Arthur and Marshall's age - I already knew I wasn't straight, but I was very much in Marshall's headspace, convinced I was letting my entire family down but most of all my late mother (and I didn't need a nasty bigoted dad like Colin to tell me she'd be ashamed of me; that's just how things appeared to a lot of LGBTQ+ teens back then - and I'm talking about the first decade of THIS century).

MegaSoapsFan's first clip from today's episode actually includes four different scenes. The second scene concentrates on Laurel's chaotic household and features Arthur and Marshall (starts at 1.22):
In later scenes that don't have clips provided, Laurel gets a call from the school to say that Marshall is not feeling well and is on his way home. When he arrives, Laurel can immediately tell that something is bothering him. He becomes evasive and asks if he can go and lie down in his room.

Today, Laurel continued to worry about Marshall who was still not wanting to get out of bed. She thought he might be stressing out about his upcoming exams.
Later:
Meanwhile, Nicky, the nanny at Home Farm who is now engaged to Gabby Thomas, and was recently revealed (to the audience) to be Caleb's son and Frank Tate's grandson - and is just using Gabby as a means to get hold of her money. Met up with his mate Ally again, and this happened:

Today - Marshall went to his mum's grave and left flowers. Afterwards, he came back to The Hyde:
In a later scene he checked his phone to see if his dad had replied to his message but he hadn't.
---
Nicky arrived back in the village after spending the night with Ally:
Things are getting on top of him, especially in his fake relationship with Gabby. He tells Caleb he want's out:

Sigh, looks like another painful coming-out. Would've been nice if Caleb knew all along and accepted Nicky. Oh well, at least it's minus the self-loathing of Cousin Aaron.

Today - The first video from MegaSoapsFan is another multi-scene clip which opens with Laurel and Jai deciding to let Marshall sleep off his hangover...
Jai is working from home and plans to check on Marshall but gets sidetracked by a conference call with Kim Tate. When Laurel returns she goes up to check on Marshall...
At hospital, the doctors confirm they are worried about Marshall, forcing Laurel to call his dad Colin. They later have a confrontation...
After he left, Arthur and Marshall sat together talking with Arthur holding Marshall's hand while Laurel and Jai confirmed to him that they will be there for him in the future.

Today - Marshall returned to the village from hospital. He asks Laurel if it's ok if his dad can visit. She agrees...
Laurel and Jai tell Marshall that as far as they are concerned he is part of their family now and can live with them permanently. Talking together in private later, they confirm with each other that they have made the right decision about Marshall's move and (half jokingly) comment that the only problem they can foresee in the future will be when Arthur and Marshall start wanting to sneak off to the bedroom together!

This is a fair point and I wondered how they will handle that. I guess the government's Children's Services is not formally involved here and it's an informal arrangement for Marshall to live with the Sharma-Thomases, but I can foresee things going south quickly once the boys start to date. Colin will probably be onto CPS on the double. Speaking of sleeping arrangements, the boys already share a bedroom, don't they? Hard to believe two teenage boys are behaving chastely under those circumstances!

There was another scene in yesterday's episode that Megasoapsfan doesn't appear to have made a clip from, which featured Marshall and Arthur: The two lads were in the cafe with April, Cathy and Heath. Cathy had asked to meet up with them to announce that she was going away to stay with Scott for a while, and then afterwards Marshall also used the opportunity to say something to the rest of the gang:
"Since we’re all sharing life updates, I’ve got some news of my own," he declared. "I'm gay." "We kind of knew that," April replied smiling, before Heath also nonchalantly moaned, "I thought you were going to say something major!" Cathy smiled and spoke for the rest of the group, saying "We’re all really happy for you," leaving Marshall feeling both relieved and smiling.

is there a way that they can keep Ally and Nicky so far they are the best what small time they get. I say I wish we could get just a shot of them shirtless ike they did Gabby I know it asking to much to have bed or after sex Sadly, I'm sure they are being discriminated against as they are a gay couple. If they can have Nicky repeatedly shirtless (even down to his undies) in scenes with Gabby, during forced sex with a woman to whom he's not attracted, they could easily have Nicky and Ally shirtless. But this show has never shown two men shirtless together in a romantic setting. The closest they got was when Robert stripped off to climb into bed with Lawrence to pretend they'd slept together - another fraud scenario. The earlier scene where Robert appeared in his undies after sex with Aaron (who was fully swaddled in a bathrobe) is the closest we've gotten in a romantic context. I don't think Ally will be on the show long (no spoilers, just my gut feel). Nicky probably has more longevity as a Dingle-Tate, and I imagine he may be Ethan's long-term love interest. Not that any shirtless scenes will ensue if they do pair up since Ethan and Marcus didn't get any either.

This back and forth between Marshall and Arthur annoys me so much. One minute Marshall wants to date Arthur. The next he just wants to stay friends. I need some progress in this storyline. I feel like the writers are just making excuses as to not show them being intimate so they can avoid gay kissing. I have seen several shows lately actually cut gay kissses. It's the new norm. Both Waterloo Road (UK) and Argentina tierra de amor y venganza (Argentina) did it. It's homophobic and it's infuriating. I have stopped watching both. I just cannot support a show where they cut gay kisses. At least they haven't done that on Emmerdale (yet), they just prolong it for Marshall and Arthur. I'm much more into Nicky and Ally, at least they get to kiss. Sadly I still see a double standard because they are not getting any bed scenes (not even sex, just simply bed scenes) like the straight couples do. There's definitely a double standard there. It's both hypocritical and homophobic.
