I feel like this was the perfect return stint for Danny Miller - no need to portray any gay intimacy since Aaron's Italian BF was conveniently offscreen, and he got to showcase his talent in turning on the waterworks as both his grandmother AND sister die.

Danny did say in an interview that when they contacted him about returning he suggested Aaron breaking Robert out of prison, which he then realized they couldn't do. I guess Danny's friendly working relationship with Ryan Hawley (even if the onscreen physicality faded as years passed) made him more open than he was with Aaron's other love interests.

There are pictures floating around of Ryan and Danny together at Olivia Flaherty's leaving party and you can see they are really comfortable together. I think it's obvious they have remained good friends in real life.

So, we got this scene in today's episode:
I think most regular viewers had already guessed.

that's one way to come out. I haven't been keeping up with Emmerdale lately, are Ethan and Marcus still together? It was a unique and touching coming-out scene. I was surprised that Emmerdale would be the soap to have a young teen come out (the character and actor are both 15). Unfortunately, as much as one wishes for Arthur to have a smooth ride instead of Aaron's tortured ordeal (much of it self-inflicted), they already have him moaning about letting down his parents (really, would either Ashley or Laurel be upset to have a gay son?). And of course, trouble is waiting in the wings with the school bullies. Ethan and Marcus are still together, but they don't have much by way of story, and certainly not together. I'm starting to worry they'll end up going the way of Finn, another barely there gay killed off. Marcus did play a supporting role in a couple of Arthur's scenes earlier in the week. It's pretty obvious he had guessed why Arthur wasn't keen on April's romantic interest.

too bad Aaron isn't around to help out Arthur, but Laurel can always go to Chas to talk about having a gay son

The scene was beautiful and also very low-key, which is so rare for soaps. If you don't know the backstory, Nicola has been close friends with Arthur's mother since Arthur was born - they raised their kids together.
Unfortunately it seems her son, Elliot, found the note and overheard the conversation, so I imagine this will end up being ugly and end in some kind of forced outing. Still, I will remember that scene, if nothing else.

"[Nicola's] probably jealous - she'd give her right arm for one of hers to be gay." LOL!
Laurel handled her son's coming-out brilliantly. It did seem like she was being a bit dim in failing to see where the conversation was leading, but I'm hoping she was just letting him be the one to say the words. (I half-expected Arthur to come out by saying he'd been attracted to one of the male Love Island contestants instead.) I appreciated that they brought up the prejudicial interpretation of the Bible relied upon by rightwingers to denigrate LGBTQ+ folk - and had Laurel eviscerate it.
I'm glad they didn't have anyone in Arthur's group of friends be homophobic, and Elliott's tattling wasn't fueled by malice. But I do think Arthur will encounter homophobia - I wonder if it'll just be random extras like those two boys Elliott mentioned, or one of the Dingles like Samson or Noah (it'd be a bit odd though, they have queer relatives like Debbie - Noah's own sister - and cousin Aaron). I assume that will be the next beat of this story because I can't see them giving him a love interest.

I've seen some fans speculating he might have feelings for Noah - that would probably end very badly, especially since Noah has been so horrid until recently.

I've seen some fans speculating he might have feelings for Noah - that would probably end very badly, especially since Noah has been so horrid until recently. I agree about Noah - or his cousin Samson - but frankly it'd be an improvement over what seems to be the most rampant speculation online, which is that something inappropriate will develop between Arthur and Marcus, who's approximately a decade or more older. I don't know if this speculation is fueled by plain old homophobia, or because people are still hinged on Marcus emulating his abusive dad. I could see some villagers misinterpreting Marcus's innocent interest in helping Arthur deal with gay issues - it doesn't seem like they'd involve him in multiple scenes of Arthur's story without something to come of it - but I hope it goes no further than that. In this era, when America has exported their groomer rhetoric to our shores, the last thing we need is for one of our soaps to add fuel to the dumpster fire. Here's something interesting. This story has been planned at least since the summer since Arthur's portrayer, Alfie Clarke, was at the Leeds Pride celebrations as part of the Emmerdale float. Now obviously, half the actors there aren't playing LGBTQ+ characters (nor are they known to be LGBTQ+ IRL) so normally I'd say it doesn't have to mean anything, but in this case it's noteworthy because he's the only juvenile actor included. http://instagram.com/p/Cg95OQRtKSs

Considering Marcus has done so little since joining the show, this would certainly be one use for him (and of course the "just like his father" cliche), but I would find it disgusting and offensive...even if he is an innocent party and is just falsely accused, the story would be sending a questionable message. I wish I could believe this wasn't a possibility.

Does anyone know if Arthur's storyline is uploaded somewhere? I see that the Youtube videos have been deleted. I did a search on Dailymotion, but nothing showed up.
