For folks who are very involved with the thread but who don't watch the full episodes and are not interested in the non gay characters (or other actors), I think it makes sense to have a separate thread.
I love it all but I have seen on other threads where discussion of actors outside of the show and discussion of other shows can take over a show's "general discussion" section (which I'd always assumed meant General Discussion about the show, not just any old topic that crosses folks' minds)
Other shows have separate threads that talk about the ACTORS versus the Characters and it doesn't seem to cause a problem or result in millions of separate threads.
Some folks just aren't interested in the actors personal lives, etc so it makes wading through pages and pages about individual actors real life stuff very frustrating for folks who only want to talk about the show or the main characters (in this instance Fer, David, Julio, etc)
It seems to me that the folks involved with a Show's thread could make decide how they want the General Discussion thread to be used.
I'm sure if someone explained it to Bonobochick she'd understand.
The rules are meant to be guidelines, they aren't meant to be used as a battering ram to stifle people or silence differences of opinion.
