When the series reached its finale back in May, the last episode was shown on the big screen at a special fan event that was attended by cast and crew. At the end of the episode the audience was surprised when a trailer came on screen announcing that a prequel was on its way too. I'm sure most folk will have probably seen it by now, but if not, here's a shortened fan copy version from YouTube: The first official press conference has now taken place with confirmation of a few facts. Most of the original cast will be back except Frank Thanatsaran, who has declined to appear as the character Itt again. His role will be recast. LongLee also wasn't at the press conference and (to my knowledge) wasn't mentioned, however his picture was used in the longer version of the trailer and appears on the poster above. Also, we're back once again into problematic territory since this new production will supposedly cover the whole story from the first two novels including the revenge plot that they previously re-wrote to give us a different lead into the story in LS III. The earlier volumes have themes of rape, drugs, sadomasochism and Stockholm Syndrome, so we'll have to wait and see how they adapt those books for the new series. The new series will once again be directed by Marut Sarowat. Here's the cast they did confirm:

So, finally we have an update on the prequel that was announced at last year's fan event. 'Love Syndrome The Beginning' will get its premiere on 8th February via a cinema run in Thailand, while an international release will be made available in series format through WeTV. As far as I know, all the actors mentioned in the post above will be reprising their roles from the original series, however it appears that both main leads have been recast. We already knew Frank Thanatsaran had declined to appear as Itt again, but it now transpires that Long Lee Shi has also withdrawn from the project and will not reprise his role as Day (despite being featured in the early publicity). Those parts are now taken by Bix Tagon as Itt and Neff Rattanan as Day. Here's the problematic synopsis again (just in case you've forgotten it!): "Itt was raped by Day because Itt was the mastermind behind a plan that hurt Day's younger brother Night. This plan was to trick Night into falling in love with Gear, Itt's friend, who then abused and raped him. Day discovered the plan too late and took his revenge by raping Itt and videotaping it as blackmail material. Whenever Itt said something that Day didn't like, he would verbally and physically abuse him and eventually used the video to force Itt to come and live with him. They started to grow close to each other despite the extreme situation, especially Itt, who wanted Day to make his feelings clear, so he ran away with the help of Night. After this, Day went crazy and finally accepted to himself how much he really liked Itt despite the way he had treated him... "The rapist can't end up with his victim unless he does something to prove his love, right?"
I honestly can't see how they will be able to keep that plotline intact, although it might explain why the story is going to the cinema rather than TV in Thailand!

Here's the official trailer for 'Love Syndrome The Beginning'
It looks like there have been more changes from the previously announced cast above, and the trailer definitely seems to include elements of the problematic rape-revenge plot of the earlier volumes that forced rewrites of the original series. I wonder if they have just decided to throw caution to the wind and go with the book's contentious storyline, after all?
Might be time to batten down the hatches!

That is... surprising that they kept the problematic components. Was sure they would have rewritten it

Well, it's finally here. The movie will air uncut tonight (or tomorrow depending on your time zone) exclusively on WeTV. Incidentally, it's the last work of the director F. Nonthapat Sriwichai, who died on 12th March from cancer. He was 47 yrs old.
