I feel bad for Kit - no one should feel obliged to come out before they're ready.
But I've had my concerns for a while because didn't the show put out a casting call asking for queer actors to fill the queer roles? I remember thinking at the time it was very awkward to demand teenagers declare their sexuality before they're necessarily ready to come out, just to get an acting gig. It feels like this was the natural culmination of the campaign to restrict queer roles to queer actors - they would need to be openly queer or out themselves to get the role.

This sucks and people sucks. Nobody should be pressured to come out. Not to mention these are young actors and they might not even have their sexuality figured out yet. I always felt that just like how we shouldn't restrict queer actors from playing straight characters, we shouldn't restrict straight actors from playing queer characters. Yes, the industry tend to discriminate against queer actors when casting straight roles, but that shouldn't mean we should demand the same discrimination for queer media. Especially if that means casting a suboptimal queer actor over a straight actor that fit the role better. The main concern should always be, who can best embody the characters. I feel bad for Kit - no one should feel obliged to come out before they're ready. I believe this is the casting call for Heartstopper, and there is no requirement that the actors need to be queer www.rcwlitagency.com/news/heartstopper-open-casting-call/

It is nether good, that someone must be out not on his free will.
But I am the only one, that thinks it is a bit strange, that it is the same day, than Young Royals is released, like a bitch fight, which get more likes and twits, it could be coincidence, but I don't believe in coincidence. Yesterday was in Germany Heartstopper Number 1, with the most twits on Twitter, today it is Young Royals.

‘Heartstopper’ Kit Connor Denies Fan Pressure As Reason for Bulking UpHeartstopper heartthrob Kit Connor opened up about the alleged fan pressure to change his physique as he gears up to return as his character, Nick Nelson, for the hit queer Netflix series.
In an interview with Vulture, the 19-year-old actor denied that he was forced into bulking up by fans and claimed that it was through his own terms as a young adult who realized that the body that he had wasn’t wholly equipped to play the role.
“That wasn’t a good way of thinking,” Connor admitted. “But I was a teenager. I still am.”
The ‘Heartstopper’ actor initially received comments from fans that his physique in season one does not match Alice Oseman’s drawings of the rugby-playing bisexual Nick. However, Connor claimed that he now feels that he has a much healthier relationship with his body and finds that working out is good for his mental health. On his road to fitness, he has posted several thirst trap photos of himself on Instagram, which, albeit initially intended to showcase his progress, got fans and non-fans alike pressing those hearts.
Connor also said that one particular shot which had him posing shirtless for the camera had him feeling embarrassed. One of his ‘Heartstopper’ co-stars teased him and messaged him: “Oh, are we posting thirst traps now?” And while Connor insists that he does not want to be “that guy,” he also asserts that he’s still a teenager who’s figuring it all out.
“Anyone else does it, I’m like, Yeah, absolutely, body positivity! But when it comes to me, I’m just like, Absolutely not,” he shared in the interview.
Connor will return as a buffer Nick in the second season of the hit queer Netflix series where, aside from diving more into Nick and Charlie’s budding romance, will also introduce more of Nick’s family, including his homophobic brother and French father. Oseman also previously hinted that the main characters will face mental health problems following the two going public with their relationship.
The second season will premiere on August 3 and was reportedly been renewed for season three.

Guardian interview: www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/jul/22/heartstoppers-kit-connor-i-wasnt-used-to-the-idea-of-millions-of-people-being-interested-in-my-private-lifeI do find it problematic that he repeats rightwing claims about sexualisation of the LGBTQ+ community in the media, especially when it's juxtaposed against his current role in a show about teenagers. If anything, queer teens are portrayed as less sexually active (or not at all) compared to their straight peers. I follow the comics so I know how this journey unfolds for Nick/Charlie, and while I think it's somewhat unrealistic, there are mitigating factors and I accept that the target audience is younger teens. But it really rankles to have an out actor starring in one of the biggest gay shows repeat this when we've just seen Emmerdale end a gay teen couple without so much as a kiss, and Hollyoaks ageing up an actor to play a gay teen, when you almost never see the same happen when straight teens date (unless they're taking on a very dark storyline). Instead they have featured in underage pregnancies, losing their virginity, love triangles, grooming, nonconsensual encounters, sexting and revenge porn.
