RICARDO AND HENRIQUE ARE THE LATEST GAY COUPLE OF PORTUGUESE TELEVISION

After "Morangos com Açúcar", "Ninguém como Tú" and "Os Nossos Dias" from TVI Network and "Os Nossos Dias" from RTP, it's now time for SIC network to give us a gay storyline on one of their top rated prime-time telenovelas.




"Amor Maior" (Greater Love), is a Portuguese soap opera currently airing on SIC, featuring the storyline of Ricardo (Tiago Teotónio Pereira) and Henrique (Tiago Aldeia), two guys from opposite worlds who happen to meet in a hostel. The attraction and chemistry between the two is undeniable, and both end up getting involved. In one way the story has the "classic" struggles of the "out gay men" x "closeted gay man" romance, but it's also nice that both characters have storylines of their own, aside from their romance. Ricardo is a hacker who works for a criminal organization which leads to a lot of problems including with his family, and Henrique is a architect who after getting fired for being gay in Dubai, moves to Lisbon to live at his sister-in-law's hostel without knowing a big secret (that I'm not gonna spoil)



Their storyline started in January and is set to end in September when the novela finishes.

Unfortunately it doesn't have English subtitles yet, but the storyline is getting quite popular on the internet so I'm sure it will get someone to subtitle it soon (like with all the previous Portuguese storylines)

great indeed! It's a big contrast from "Ninguém Como Tú", which was first aired in 2005 and had no kisses lol
I think "O Beijo do Escorpião" broke a lot of taboos...

I watched the 24 parts that have been uploaded so far. I understood a decent amount of the dialogues since Portuguese is quite close to Spanish.

It seems to be still a story to build, because Ricardo and Henrique don't have feelings for each other (despite they have slept 4 times together). Henrique won't be with a closet-case and Ricardo doesn't want to be gay.

Oh cool, nice to see Portugal going further. I could help with the translations, but not right now. Maybe in July, during winter break.

edit: Henrique says he's a civil engineer, not an architect. Hmmm.

I wouldn't say they love each other or have any deep feelings at this point of the storyline, but they certainly have some feelings for each other... but I agree there's still a lot set to happen regarding the characters themselves and their relationships

I commented on the most recent video. Said that people who don't speak Portuguese are interested and that English subs would be nice. Let's hope the uploader will see the comment, can speak English and has time to sub those huge videos hahahaha

The length of the videos is a bit deceiving, as a big portion of the videos is dedicated to show people around Lisbon and other places in Portugal and Brazil.
They showed every place I visited when I was in Lisbon.

I had a look at this one and it looks good! I've been watching without subtitles and been appreciating the chemistry. I think we might eventually see some English subs which would open up the audience.
