As stated in the Touchwood thread, it seems like the new Doctor Who spin off will contain a gay lead character. www.newnownext.com/doctor-who-spinoff-will-have-gay-lead-character/06/2016/From the recently released trailer, it seems like Charlie(Greg Austin) will be the gay character mentioned in the previous article. Not much else has been released about the show except that it will have the Doctor in the first episode. Class will launch on October 22nd.

I find it unlikely that River Song will show up, but Captain Jack is certainly a possibility, along with the rest of the Torchwood cast. Possibly some of the Sarah Jane Adventure cast too

I love K9, but he is too much of a light-hearted character and wouldn't fit with the atmosphere that they have going here, from what I can tell from the trailer.

This looks promising, it's so rare to see a gay male lead in a sci-fi show.

Watched the first two episodes, I like it. Nice that they didn't shy away from the gay relationship. Sadly, Matteusz, the boy that Charlie is with, is only a reoccurring character, so probably won't show up too often. Also, the fact that Charlie is an alien also remove a bit from the whole thing.
Also, the Next Time seems to have a scene where Matteusz is there, so hopefully, we will get more interaction with Charlie.

I think both the gay scenes from the trailer (the kiss and the sex scene) have already aired or will air next week. I hope that won't be the extent of it. I can't help wondering if Charlie will be pan-sexual. I did like that his homosexuality was a non-issue.
I'm not sure if Greg Austin (who can be my Prince any day - although I understand he is engaged to a woman) is first billed because his surname starts with an A, or if he is intended to be the principal protagonist. Still, it's lovely to have a gay lead in sci-fi (which is such a rarity) and all the better that this show is not as "kiddie" as The Sarah Jane Adventures (which I thought it was going to be ... until I saw all the gore).

Well, Matteusz is billed as reoccurring, so hopefully that means there will be more of Charlie/Matteusz. I don't think Charlie is pan-sexual, mostly because the executive producer was saying before that he felt it was important to have a gay lead in a sci-fi show. It certainly does seems that Charlie is one of the principle protagonist as he is an alien and he lives with Quill, who seems to be the one leading the underlying storyline at this moment.
It is certainly more adult than SJA with the blood and gore. But is the plan really for them to talk with the aliens/creatures every episode to resolve the problem? That can only work for so long and they don't really have any power/knowledge that would compensate.
I'm actually a bit glad they didn't try to drag out the mystery of Charlie and Quill. A lot of other show would have kept the fact they are alien secret for at least half a season before making a big deal of the reveal.

Well, Patrick Ness said on twitter that Charlie/Matteusz fans should definitely watch ep3, and there's clearly a sex scene in the ep 3 preview, it just flashes too fast for anyone to see who it is...

I saw a freeze-frame of the sex scene and it's Charlie/Mateusz.

Does anyone think they are going to rotate the "main" character for each episode around the cast? We had the Charlie-focused pilot, and Ram-focused second episode. Third episode seems Tanya-focused. I'm guessing the one after would be Quill or April?

I feel like that's a common UK format for teen shows. Skins did the same. And the next episode does look centered around Tanya.

Very cute stuff with them in this episode, although Matteusz, poor guy. I enjoyed it, even if a lot of it felt kinda scripted because of tropey writing, and even though hot gay tall studs like Matteusz just do not exist for gay high school boys; I wont hold any of that against it.
He better have all the plot armor as Charlie's boyfriend.
And Ms. Quill is fabulous. Katherine Kelly is fabulous.

I'm surprised the direction they went with Matteusz. Was expecting them to keep him with his parents so they have an excuse why he doesn't show up in certain episodes. Hopefully, this means he will be in the remaining episodes. It was also nice to hear how Charlie's race view love.
Yah, Matteusz doesn't look much like a high school boy, but neither does most of the shows out there that takes place in high school. With 90210 being the worst having a mid 30s actor playing a high school student. Charlie's actor is 24, Tanya's is 20, April's is 25 and Ram's 23. No idea how old Matteusz's actor is, but I assume it would be in that same range.

There has been people who been speculating that Matteusz will die later this season because he fits the stereotype of a character close enough to the main cast who the writers can kill off to create emotional drama without actually killing off any of the main cast.
I really hope this isn't true, but the fact they have accelerated the Charlie/Matteusz is a bit concerning. Like they are trying to quickly build the audience emotional ties with a character before they kill him off. Kissing and going on a date in the opening episode, moving in together by the 3rd, all seems insanely quick. I feel if they wanted to to depict a longer lasting relationship, they would have spread these milestone out through the season instead of rushing past it.
Again, I hope this rumor isn't true, but there are worrying signs. Hopefully, Matteusz is just there to give a human contrast to Charlie and Quill's alien way of thinking.

Exactly. Having him live with Charlie means he should be onscreen every episode, but he's only recurring. It feels foreboding.
Perhaps he won't die, and he'll only be abducted or something so rescuing him becomes a big arc? He doesn't necessarily have to die for him to help drive story and emotional drama.

I'm more into this show than I have been Doctor Who for years now, so hopefully it will continue.
