Robert might not be able to make up his mind about his sexual orientation, but I think Ryan deserves a thread of his own. For a newcomer, he's a great actor, very fit and certainly does not hold back on the passion of his love scenes, whether with the opposite or same gender. IMO, he's really all you can hope for in a recast and more - he even resembles the previous portrayer, Karl Davies (except blonder and, dare I say it, more classically handsome).  [/URL] So far we've seen Robert at his most smarmy and manipulative (and boy does he play this with aplomb), but I'm hoping Ryan gets to show off more of his range as Robert's web of lies starts unravelling. I suspect that, under his carefully crafted facade, Robert is a very damaged, vulnerable young man. Anyone know how old Ryan is? He definitely looks younger than the actor who plays Andy, even though the characters are supposed to be the same age (28). Here's hoping Ryan has a good, long run as Robert on Emmerdale. |

Ryan's age doesn't seem to be noted anywhere online that I can find. It's not even on his c.v. When looking at the c.v. I realised that I've actually seen him before in a 2007 theatre production of 'The History Boys' so I hunted out the old program and scanned these pics from it. He played the part of Rudge.  I barely recognised him in this cover image, though I don't think any of the cast look particularly good here. He's top left just in case you're not sure! Robert was always one of my favorite characters in his last run. Davies was brilliant, and Robert was a fascinating character. He was always on the outside, self-destructive, broken. Hawley has done a terrific job of continuing this portrayal of Robert. He's really given himself all out, and I'm glad the show is putting Robert in such a central role. I just hope that they won't make him into a monster, the way they did previous ambiguous leading men like Carl King. I also hope they won't pay too much heed to fan backlash over how "bad" he is, especially considering some of the trash that walks the streets of Hotten. I got mesmerized by Ryan Hawley after watching the storyline. His acting skills is pretty good for a newcomer (it is not easy to fill in the shoes of a popular character) and I must admit that he has more chemistry with Danny Miller than Marc Silcock had with Danny Miller. And I like that he is not just not a pretty face and his portrayal of Robert did get me hook and now I'm pretty invested in the storyline.

I've loved Robert for years, and Ryan Hawley made me a fan all over again. Boy do I hope Ryan gets a great big career out of this show.
A part of me would love to think Robert isn't going to be all bad, will grow and change. But the truth is many fans hated him from the minute he came back to the village, and this just cements it. The character is likely going to be reduced to yet another "soap serial killer." Those stories can, frankly, kiss my ass.
I'm not going to be a hypocrite, after all the shit I talked about Brendan and Stendan and Stendan fans, and tell people Robert is misunderstood or wait to see that he truly loves Aaron, and he's the real victim.
I'm going to shut my mouth and quit watching, for a while, or for good. I was a fool for taking back my stance after what they did to Terry and Viv and after the gruesome Aaron/Jackson saga.
I've enjoyed talking to you guys again and meeting a few new people. It's been nice to visit the board again.
I'm sorry it couldn't last.

I hope Ryan's career gets a boost from playing Robert and he goes on to bigger and better things; he's certainly talented and handsome.

Ryan, have done a woderful job with what he have been given There are big big differences between Robert and Brendan, and not only in their killer curriculum. Robert manipulates Aaron, but only to a certain point because Aaron entered in the relationship knowing he was going to be the other, falling in love was not a good idea. But their whole relationship is different, of course there's a power struggle in their relationship, and probably due the circumstances and knowing what Aaron feel for him Robert will probably establish himself in a more dominant situation. That was bound to happen no matter what happened with Katie, because Robert is a selfish son of a b*** and he wants it all, and the only way is having total control over Aaron (and that won't be that easy). Their relationship is not healthy (and probably will be toxic in a near future) but they are very far from the levels of toxicity of Stendan. Breandan beat Ste on regular basis, he threatened him and even his children, till now there's absolutely nothing about that in Robert and Aaron's relationship. Robert and Aaron are not destined to last and i hope they won't sell their relationship as an epic love story because it's not, but at least till now they are very far from being like Stendan |

I wonder if the show is planning on having Robert be Nathan, Carl, and Cameron all rolled into one? Or are they planning on redeeming him somehow? Showing some humanity from him, some genuine grief and guilt over what he's done to Katie, Andy, Chrissie, and Aaron. This is his second manslaughter kill, we didn't really see how he processed Max. But how is he going to handle what he did to Katie, what her death will do to Andy, Diane, Viv, and Aaron.
Ryan is doing a great job and he's a very talented man, but the show only has him around for a six months contract which I think is up next month. But considering dealing with the aftermath, he will probably stick around another six months.
Danny and Ryan are great working off each other in scenes and I believe they said a slow burner storyline. So I wonder how long they are planning on keeping him around?

Someone in the Aaron/Robert thread at Digital Spy found this...apparently some unsold pilot for the CW in 2010 by Amy Sherman-Palladino (Gilmore Girls). This clip also has Sean Faris. There’s an IMDB listing for The Wyoming Story, but oddly enough Ryan and Sean aren’t credited there (more IMDB sloppiness I guess). It is oddly in line with Robert and Andy. Just so proud and happy for Ryan to win. He's such a good person and so talented, it's about time he won something. Danny is so sweet, gushing over Ryan winning. Danny really is the President of the Ryan Hawley fan club.
