This is a telenovela from Mexico I think. It's MTV produced, and aired last year. It's nearly a year old now, but I just found it. The gay guy's name is Leo, short for Leónidas, and he's really cute! It reminds me a lot about Skins. I don't know if it's based on Skins, or if it's just a coincidence or what.. but it certainly is very similar! From what I gather the show is about teenagers in their last year of high school (?) partying, having sex etc. Anyway.. nobody has uploaded the storyline.. I don't know how much of the story was actually dedicated to his sexuality. I don't even know if he properly came out, although it looks like he's inching out of the closet from what I saw. The episodes are available on the MTV website, for those living in Mexico: www.mtvla.com/tv/ultimo-ano/ Unfortunately, it's blocked for everyone else. Even though the whole storyline is not uploaded, I did find a few clips.. Leo is dreaming about kissing Felix and he comes out to a friend:Leo talking about Felix:Here is Leo kissing a guy at a party (HOT!):Dulce Maria from RBD sings the intro for the telenovela:

Thanks, but it's still geo blocked for me I'm not from Latin America.. I'm from Norway. It sucks I wish I could watch Leo's storyline, because it looks really good, and he's so so cute! They don't shy away from the PDA either. That kiss was the sexiest gay kiss I've seen in quite some time.. wow! Granted, I don't know if he has many other kissing sessions, lol. But still. It would be awesome if someone could upload his whole storyline.. with or without subs. I'm not picky! Although English subs would be great of course

Why did they even bother with english subtitles if you can't watch it from english-speaking countries?

Ok, now after having watched the gay storyline.. I just ugh So disappointed. I do this EVERY time though.. I always get my hopes up with telenovelas. I know telenovelas don't have a good track record when it comes to gay storylines, but I always think "this time it will be different". Only to get my hopes crushed. It sucks. SPOILER WARNING I'm not sure if I really need a spoiler warning, considering the show ended back in December 2012, but still.. I'll do it just in case some people want to watch and haven't yet. I don't even know where to start.. the whole Felix thing was interesting at first, then it just became dumb. I thought Leo's crush on him was really cute, even if we found out later he was just using him. This is what I have a problem with though.. he was supposedly a free spirit or whatever, right? And yes.. he did use both Dolores and Leonidas, so it wasn't a case of just the gay guy being dumb, that would have been horrible! But the thing is.. we only got one kiss and a few pecks between them, while he was able to have sex and make out like a thousand times with Dolores. There's obviously a double standard here. I know he said he only liked Leo more as a friend kinda.. but still, the double standard bugged me. Then there's the fact that every other straight character on the show was able to have a significant other, except the gay guy of course. He was only played. It sucks. And WHILE he supposedly had a crush on Felix, he STILL flirted with Camila etc. Awful writing. I get that he's bisexual.. but still. It wasn't all bad though... Leo's character was refreshing. I'm happy they talked about labels and being undefined/bi/whatever. That's definitely a step forward! The whole soap opera reads like a teenage PSA though.. teenage pregnancies, STIs, HIV, homosexuality, bisexuality etc. They always showed them using condoms before having sex.. I have no idea if HIV is a problem in Mexico.. I'm happy they did the condom thing, but HIV is much more common in MSM. So it would have been an excellent opportunity for them to have him having sex with Felix (or someone else), and using a condom.. but they didn't. I guess it's still taboo to show stuff like that on tv. They DID show gay kissing though (even though it was much less than the straight kissing), so I definitely see progress on this part. It wasn't too long ago where gay kissing on tv in Mexico was too controversial. All in all.. I've figured out that you can't really expect too much when it comes to gay visibility in telenovelas. It's slowly changing, I definitely see improvements.. like at least Leo was allowed to kiss, and they didn't cut the kisses out. That's definitely progress in my book. But it still doesn't change the fact that his gay storyline was done horribly, and the double standard there was annoying. I just get the feeling that Leo's storyline was a last minute decision, since it didn't start until like episode 50 (the telenovela has 70 episodes). So it seems like they didn't really know what they would do with Leo's character.. it's almost like they thought they could turn Leo into a bisexual male, JUST so they could check the box of homosexuality, so they covered that.. you know? like teenage pregnancies, HIV, STIs etc. But they didn't exactly do it well. He should have gotten a boyfriend, he shouldn't have let himself be a victim of idiot Felix. It was just overall dumb. The telenovela will apparently get a second season. I guess the first season was a hit. I just hope that if they tackle gay storylines again, it will be better than the first time.
