And violence against gays does not exist anymore in the US? It does, as far as I know. Am I wrong? You are very wrong in the comparision. Violence against gays exist everywhere, even in the most tolerant countries, but you can't compare the gay movement in the USA with the gay movement in Latin america. And to be honest, a lot fo USA tv shows deal with the same things that are treating here. Yes, telenovelas usually had that educative element. Brazil is a country new to gay rights. Gay character were almost non existent not so far ago, so it's perfectly normal they are in that phase. Probably in a couple of years that won't be necessary at all. In fact in a couple of years gay characters will be a lot more common in brazilian telenovelas than in USA soap operas, that's for sure

Yay! Edu has finally admitted that he 'likes' Hugo. Now he just has to get over the fact that he's gay. ;D
The more they are together in scenes, the more I like their chemistry.

There are more media attention with gay and human right groups focusing light on these problems. And hate crime laws have recently passed. Latin America is just starting to pay more attention to gay rights and homophobic crimes. One of the excuses (which I disagree with) that Globo gives for the kissing ban is that it would cause more violence.

But in my country , Argentina, same sex marriage was approved with no restrictions of any kind one year ago. Now I think things in Brazil will change sooner than expected. 4 million in the pride parade in São Paulo today

That's why I asked if I was wrong. What I know is I have 2 friends from Amarillo, Texas, in my building, and they left because they couldn't bear living there anymore. They were tired of the polica doing nothing to defend them, and feared losing their lives any time.

It was awesome, all those people carrying signs and protesting, different tribes, even skinheads against homophobia, the thousands of parents with their children, and giving thanks to the president Dilma, what a brave woman!

I hope that Eduardo can be strong because Sueli may like other gays, but you can already tell she is not going to accept Eduardo being gay. Eduardo knows in his heart how she will react.

I don't think Sueli will react badly. She may be kinda shocked in the beginning but she'll support him, and I think she's going to fight for his and other gays' rights. Or I hope so.

It's still possible to watch some in globo.com, but unfortunately there won't be subtitles. Such a pitty. They were very cute today, but of course they don't even touch each other. I'm sick of this. Globo guys supposedly made them cut the scenes, no kisses, just some little more intimacy. Even the words "meu amor" (my love) were left out. Ridiculous, no? pathetic. In the original scene edu said he had no doubts anymore "my love", and not even this was allowed. Oh gosh, gimme pacience to bear with such ignorance. Sueli's ridiculous, mistreating Hugo. I hate her at the moment. Let's hope things improve. What's important's they're together ♥
