O Melhor Amigo (The Best Friend) was a Brazilian gay-themed short that came out a decade ago. It was a familiar tale of a gay boy, Lucas, harbouring a secret crush on his straight best friend, Felipe. Production has commenced on a feature-length sequel with a festival circuit debut expected in the second half of 2024. From what I gather, it will be a musical, with Lucas now living out and proud, when his path crosses with Felipe again. Both roles have now been recast (either the original actors were unavailable or they've aged out of whatever timeframe this sequel is supposed to be set in). Lucas will now be played by Vinicius Teixeira and Felipe by Gabriel Fuentes. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cyjh2KyPKfe

I'm sure getting him to do this movie would be quite expensive... both the new actors are quite "unknown" (Gabriel Fuentes has a onlyfans account btw... you're welcome )

He's been on my radar since Malhacao. I'm just thrilled now he has a gay-adjacent role. Well, hopefully it's more than just gay-adjacent. Based on his OF, I feel like he would give us some scorching hot sex scenes if the script allows.

Just in time for Halloween comes a Japanese film which is touting itself as "The world's first school horror BL movie".Synopsis: "Itsuki Homura was transferred to a high school on an isolated island in which problematic students from all over the country are gathered. He joins a study group for “Grand Guignol”, a horror theatre that was popular in France in the 19th century. After Itsuki’s welcome party, an enigmatic murder happens. Who is the killer and can Itsuki survive?"International release is via GagaOOLala. The trailer has a lot more horror than BL!

Nuovo Olimpo is out now on Netflix. Queer love, nostalgia, Italian melodrama, killer soundtrack… all elements I love, so it’s hard for me not to like this film even with its flaws LOL *** May contain spoilers *** I feel like the first half was a lot stronger (and more artsy). The acting was mostly great (Damiano my MVP <3) and the film does a beautiful job in portraying Enea and Pietro‘s first interactions, their growing love and relationship while also unfolding as a love letter to Rome itself, capturing the nostalgic and vintage beauties of the city and locations with gorgeous cinematography. The more intimate scenes were all very artful as well, with special kudos to how comfortably naturalistic the full-frontal nudity felt here (necessary and not added for the wow factor). The music is also a big highlight (as I would’ve imagined judging by the Mina songs in both the teaser and the trailer) I have to say, though, that the middle part of the film (once the story starts with the time jumps) kind of lost me a bit. As Enea and Pietro move on with their lives, the story becomes weaker and more predictable (and, as a side note, the aging make-up started to become a bit too distracting for me personally). I was also conflicted about the end, but I think the director was able to find a sweet (even if not 100% satisfying) resolution (or maybe the only possible one).

Described as an erotic thriller, Femme stars out actor Nathan Stewart-Jarrett as Jules, a drag queen who is attacked by a gang of queerphobes. However, some months later, Jules comes across lead assailant Preston (George MacKay) in a gay sauna, who doesn't recognise Jules out of drag and reveals himself to be a closet case. Jules then embarks on an intense sexual affair with Preston, planning to film revenge porn that would out Preston to his friends and destroy his hardman rep. The feature film is an expansion of a 2021 short of the same name starring Paapa Essiedu and Harris Dickinson in the lead roles. In British cinemas this Friday.

Gay fans of slasher flicks may like Departing Seniors which has a gay Latino lead as well as Yani Gellman (who played gay lawyer Rafe on Y&R) in a supporting role.
A sequel to Maschile Singolare, Maschile Plurale, is out this Thursday. I didn't even know a sequel was in the works!
