I just had to put this out there, and please "sign" below in a comment if you agree.
This in an open letter to networks all across Europe producing and airing the most popular soap operas, including but not limited to:
Please release DVDs of all series of your soaps across the globe, subtitled in many languages. Your shows would be large hits within GLBT communities worldwide, as has been well demonstrated by the English Subtitling of Verbotene Liebe on Youtube.
As an example, the Ichglotsutube Youtube channel has over 25,000 subscribers with the beginning of the series getting an average of 150,000 views, one episode even gaining over 880,000 views! The Christian/Oliver storyline from Verbotene Liebe has been subtitled to English for over 2.5 years now, and still holds it's up to 50,000 viewers' strong ratings regularly. These viewers are people that have actively sought out your series or were referred to it; having millions of things to choose from on youtube, and choosing to watch this. This is not a market of people that had nothing else to watch on TV, these are genuinely interested and loyal fans.
Having subtitles in the show's original language, English and the native languages of the local markets would also greatly assist language and mannerism study for students across the world, especially as specific DVD players can display more than one set of subtitles at a time.
Countries in East/South-East Asia such as Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, Japan, S.Korea etc., where "western way of life" is often idolised, gay characters are relatively scarce and the people are no strangers to television dramas, would be very lucrative markets for the soaps, and would likely be big hits.
For the cost of a few translators and editors, you could open up entirely new untapped markets for this kind of product. The show has already been produced and aired, so there is very little to loose, and quite a bit to gain. Plus, local fans would be able to enjoy their favourite series on DVD and perhaps even learn and practice reading in a foreign language, or it could even help immigrants learn the language and enjoy the local TV.
Please subtitle and release your shows onto DVD from the very beginning up until the latest season, and continue to release them, so the dedicated fans of the world can enjoy the entire story from the very beginning.

P.s., Don't bother dubbing. Quite often one of the biggest motives for watching foreign TV and movies is because American accents are very often abrasively irritating to non-American English speaking populations. No offense, but the long over-exaggerated vowels and stretched consonants, as well as the overly rhotic nature of the accents is enough to drive anyone to murder; not to mention the dumbing down of scripts to suit a "simpler" audience. That, and dubbing is just annoying.
