Highlight to read spoiler --- > I just hope that the 90210 producers will notice how much attention their show is gaining from this couple and try to keep Ian.

Highlight to read spoiler --- > Only around for a short while and so good that you want them to last and last. Hopefully Ian will come back and maybe there will be a triangle?

I'm pretty psyched for this storyline. I mean everything has been played out quite nicely in a slow pace. But as long as they dun screw it up, I don't mind the pace.

90210 has only just started airing in the UK, and I accidentally caught the last half of the episode with the firemen & auction last night. So afterwards I rushed here and galloped through this thread, so I'm all caught up now. I must say I am not totally convinced by Teddy's story, insofar as it's painfully apparent to me that that nice Mr Donovan hasn't seen the inside of a high school for about 15 years. A little verisimilitude would make the whole thing easier to swallow. A friend of mine was a character in Degrassi many years ago, and part of what made that work was that the actors were only two or three years older than the characters they were portraying. (Also Degrassi always had some honest grit in it, which I don't detect in 90210.) I gather Trevor Donovan has been briefed, debriefed, sensitized, educated and had his consciousness raised about gay issues with great thoroughness, but that's no substitute for strong writing, which doesn't seem to be a hallmark of this show. Sorry to be so negative, but honestly, apart from Liam's fabulous abs, I'm finding it dreadfully banal and wondering who on earth could possibly be interested in yet another airbrushed American high school saga with nothing edgy or outside-the-box. I would imagine the writers/producers figure the gay SL serves that purpose, but the viewing public's sophistication in these matters might already have overtaken them. Then again, I hope I'll be proven wrong. And it goes without saying that for some isolated teenager in Arkansas, this could be a revelation. But wouldn't that teenager already be watching Glee?

Unlike Degrassi which has some social goals (I've been watching that show since the ORIGINAL, LOL), 90210 is not supposed to be edgy or deep. It's a nighttime soap opera. Much like the original 90210, it's supposed to be fluffy drama and sexy hijinx with the occasional heart thrown in. I think a show like "The Secret Life of American Teenagers" would be more comparable to Degrassi. 90201 is really more like Hollyoaks, IMO I never understand why folks from outside the US just lump everything under the "typical American" label. There really is no such thing, the US is far too diverse. I've watched a tremendous amount of British TV and have done for like 20 years and I'd never say "oh, that's the typical UK type of show/acting/writing' Each genre has its tropes and formulas but you can hardly compare Dexter or Weeds or True Blood to something like Gossip Girl or Friends. Even within genres there is a tremendous difference in the writing, caliber of acting and directing. Anyway, it's just weird to see such a diverse television industry painted with such a broadly sweeping brush.

Even within genres there is a tremendous difference in the writing, caliber of acting and directing. Anyway, it's just weird to see such a diverse television industry painted with such a broadly sweeping brush. Oh, I never meant to generalize about all American TV! I might be in London now, but I grew up in the USA and was suckled at the breast of American TV. When it comes to shows about schoolkids, I'm old enough to remember Our Miss Brooks, Leave It To Beaver and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis... I guess what I'm kvetching about is just the lack of imagination in the characterization and writing of this show. It seems to take itself too seriously to be 'fluffy' and just has that 'sanitized' feel about it that I identify (perhaps wrongly) with so much mediocre mainstream American TV. The original BH90210 wasn't a great deal better, and once that had come and gone, and Dawson's Creek had come and gone, you sort of wonder why they bother to just keep plowing the same furrow. It's like Glee without the jokes, the quirkiness and the music. Worse, it's like High School Musical without the music. I think that once you know there are films out there that have taken on the high school environment and done something really interesting with it (Donnie Darko, Napoleon Dynamite, 10 Things I Hate About You, Election, etc., etc.) it's kind of difficult to suspend disbelief (or cynicism) long enough to buy into any of the characters or SLs on 90210. Well, that will be enough of my prejudging. The way any and all media deal with the existence of gay people interests me per se so I'll keep an eye on this and hope things will improve all round once Teddy hooks up with the rather dishy guy who's set to play his next love interest.

Tonight's episode where Ian is the one behind blackmailing Teddy was poor. Sorry 90210 writers the Ian you wrote in the past would not have done that. It's just a really bad plot device because you needed to write off the Ian character since the actor playing him is leaving the show.

I am so very disappointed in the writers how they decided to write off Ian.I wasn't expecting that at all. They destroyed Ian character. The Ian i liked would of never done that to Teddy. They are so adorable and cute together the fans loved them.Of all the ways the could written Ian out they decided the worse one.

i think tonight's episode was good. lots of teddy/ian time (but i'm sure next week will be back to our regular 4 min. of screen time). good stuff first: so impressed with trevor donovan and loved the talk between him and silver.
as i feared they decided to make ian be the blackmailer, which i wish they thought better of. making him desperate for teddy to be out - even having a friend of his take a photo of them kissing is so against his character. couldn't they just transfer him out of school (his parent's decision) since he will apparently be disappearing from even teddy's chem class?
oh well...we all knew it was coming. one question - Ian lives in a mansion, why does he drive such a shitty jeep?

I am heartbroken. I loved Ian and 90210 does this to his character. That sucks big time. The epsiode was soooo good aswell until the last 2 minutes!!! Teddy got an awesome amount of screen time too!!

I'm not surprised at who the blackmailer was... and I agree with people that it is a huge departure from his original character... but I am guessing it has all to do with the actor of Ian departing the show...
Depending on the timing of when he informed the show, the writers could have very little time to write his character out... if it was just after the mid-season episode was filmed, a sudden betrayal is really the only logical way to get the character to leave the show quickly.... regarding the whole having him just transfer out instead, it would be weird of him to do that... why would a guy suddenly transfer out of the school when he just got together with someone...

The writers did a horrible job with ending their relationship.. honestly, it was out of character to blackmail Teddy when he said that he was ok with waiting to come out basically in the episode before.. It was stupid imo. I think they could have found a better reason for them to break up, but.. I guess they wanted to do it like that to get Teddy out of the closet and Ian leaving at the same time. I kinda understand, but I still think it was out of character for Ian!
