As long as Brendan drops the abusive aspect of his personality, then I think they could make a good couple (even if there's a ton of tension between them). In Friday's E4 clip, it looked like Ste was able to exert some influence on Brendan. He stood toe-to-toe with him, and Brendan backed down. I hope Ste doesn't forget that. If they go back to the old abuse pattern, I will be really disappointed in Brendan, Ste, and the writers.

But I don't think abusive, controlling part of Brendan should disappear, at least not yet. It wouldn't be very realistic. Things like that don't just vanish without a lot of time and effort. I suspect it'll continue when/if Brendan and Ste get back together.

I think if Ste allows himself to be drawn in by Brendan again. He will stand tall this time, so if Brendan was to try and threaten him or beat him, he would do the same back. Making their relationship even more dysfuntinal, but it might get Brendan to seek help. Or Ste saying he won't go back to that again after he worked so hard after what happen with Amy and if Brendan wants to behave that way, he's on his own.

I have to agree with Anthony about Brendan's change taking a good long while, but I am with cheerios in thinking if Ste gets drawn back in he won't stand for any more abuse, though i hope he would simply walk away rather than fall into mutually abusive situation. I will be disappointed in the writers with Zathras if they let Ste fall back into being a victim, it would be such a step backward for the character after so many personal realizations. The spoiler for the next episode has me slightly worried, but at least they will be on screen together. I'll take whatever I can get. It's going to be a loooong weekend.

I don't think Brendan and Ste should get together at all. That relationship is not healthy. Having a common ground, becoming friends if Brendan lays off the abuse and become a change man is okay but not a couple. I mean Ste and Amy never really got back together after the abuse. I love the relationship they have now, considering what it was like 2 years ago.

I love the relationship they have now, considering what it was like 2 years ago. I completely understand your point of view, and I can't fault you in the least for it. I will only put forth that even the best of relationships have unhealthy parts, some not as obvious as physical abuse, but perhaps just as painful, and it is for those involved to decide what works for them. I am not excusing or condoning the abuse, but to me it is up to Ste to decide when enough is enough even if i don't agree. On a sidenote I do think these two have a lot of common ground. I actually think Brendan sees a bit of himself in Ste. After all the first night they met Ste tried to blackmail Brendan into giving him a job and got a punch in the nose for his trouble. Ste has known from the very beginning Brendan is mad, bad and dangerous to know, and I am pretty sure that is part of the attraction. He knew Brendan was violent, dealt large scale drugs, and was willing to endanger the innocent (as long as it wasn't his family) to get what he wants, but Ste was more than happy to overlook all of that once he figured Brendan was doing bad for the sake of his kids, something he admitted he himself would do. Now I do admit I am completely biased so please feel free to take anything i say as the rantings of a delusional fangirl.

So I'm watching it again (and again ) and I saw something I had missed. I'm probably the only one that didn't see it the first time but when Ste turns away from him Brendan is reaching to touch his face. To get all touchy feely and put their foreheads together. Then you see he's hurt and walks away. Also noticed when he charges out of the bar he shoves the guy in front of him out of the way. Heh. Speaking of which I remember thinking during the 10 times they showed Brendan watching them that he was showing an awful lot of restraint. Especially when they kissed, he looked like he was going to murder someone. Then when Ste went to the bathroom,he attacked Macca outside. He didn't want Ste to see him like that. He's trying to get him back after all.

I didn't mean to make it sound like Ste will regress and enter into a mutual abusive relationship with Brendan. But I think Ste is done being the victim, considering how he stood up to Brendan when it came to Amy, Rae, and Macca. And he didn't waver at all when he was looking a furious Brendan in the eyes. I think if Brendan tries to beat him again, Ste will defend himself and show Brendan that he won't be Brendan's punching bag anymore.
Ste has come a long way since he first hurt Amy, and he has his kids and his own peace of mind to think about now. I don't think he will ever go back there for anyone now, he will only move forward. I think he will tell Brendan that if he wants to get help and move on to maybe they can do something. But I think this could make Ste stronger about who he is.
I do think there will be a lot of sexual tension and longing looks after Brendan is cleared of the fire. Maybe some near kisses and close moments too, I do see maybe the chemistry erupting between them and them sharing a passion filled kiss. And Ste saying it was a mistake that shouldn't happen again.
I find their relationship interesting, Ste can't talk to Amy about his feelings for Brendan because she wants him far away from Brendan. Rae has different reasons for wanting Ste to not have feelings for Brendan, so he with her. Macca is only planning on messing with him because he's jealous of Ste relationship with Brendan. So there Ste becoming very very confused. I think it's more likely that Ste is bisexual and probably shouldn't shut his feelings off for guys or they will just explode at him at the wrong moment.
I would find it funny if Cheryl didn't let Brendan being gay thing go and found out that Rae wasn't lying. Only then to find out about Ste too. But not knowing about the abuse Brendan dishes out. And being a loving sister trying to support Brendan being gay without his knowledge because she wants him to come to her with it on his own time. I can see her trying to helping Ste and Brendan getting back together, not knowing the whole story.
I love Ste innocent shock about the gay bar being like any other bar. I thought it was adorable, I don't what he was expecting. I like Macca, but then I don't. There just something I can't put my finger on about him. All I know is he's up to something and it's not going to go well for Ste and Brendan.
Before I thought Ste was just one of Brendan's possesions to him. He was a toy that Brendan would play with to see what it would do. Brendan enjoys having all the power, actually it seems that he demands to have it. And Ste standing up to him and pulling away seems to be putting a wrench in his plans. And yet he still wants Ste, he seems to want him more now that he can't have him. And I think there is a part of Brendan that is attracted to Ste taking charge and telling him off. All of Brendan's men have been one off or like Macca. But Ste is different, he's a father too who would do anything for his kids. But he knows what it's like to have something in you that you hate. The difference is Ste got help for his anger and volient tendancy while Brendan lets them fester. I think Ste is Brendan's equal and he's got under Brendan's skin which is why he was able to get Brendan subdued so quickly. Brendan is truly falling for Ste and I think it scaring him.

Speaking of which I remember thinking during the 10 times they showed Brendan watching them that he was showing an awful lot of restraint. Especially when they kissed, he looked like he was going to murder someone. Yeah, the fact that Brendan didn't interrupt them right there surprised me a little. On the other hand, he couldn't have a "private" conversation inside the bar. Not that it was terribly private outside, either. He is still desperately trying to keep his secret (and denying he's gay at the same time). I think Ste is Brendan's equal and he's got under Brendan's skin which is why he was able to get Brendan subdued so quickly. I was thinking the same thing when I was watching the last clip. I'm guessing Ste is the first guy that he's attracted to who's really stood up to him like that. I think Brendan's really, really frustrated by it. As you say, he feels he has to be in control of every situation, and Ste's rebelling against it (go Ste!).

Yeah Macca cowards in fear even when he says he loves Brendan. But Ste screams at him to stop, stares him down, and turns away from his grasp. Brendan never had someone stand up to him before and it looks like he likes it.
He was showing a lot of restraint, he looked ready to murder when the kiss happen. He literally push someone out of the way to scare Macca off. But I think he doesn't want Ste to see that side of him that much anymore. Brendan wants Ste back and Ste having none of it.
Macca doesn't look happy that Ste has such a strong affect on Brendan. Macca wanted Brendan to be that way with him. It's not a nice feeling finding out all your waiting has been for naught and seeing that your replacement is the one that will get all the things you wanted. Ste better watch out, Macca is going to mess with him some more.

Brendan loves Ste? Probably. That will change their relationship dynamics?, i doubt it. Brendan is hurt, because Ste think he is the arsonist and he wanted to kill Amy and the kids, but when the truth will come out, Ste will be back at Brendan probably begging for forgiveness. Maybe if Brendan is the one who pursue Ste, he will change, but i think that's not going to happen. Stee will be back at Brendan, and their insane relationship will restart again. I think Brendan will change maybe when this storyline advance some more, but this time he will be in his controlling self more sooner than later. Maybe he avoid beating Ste for a while, but the only way to be with another man that Brendan knows is dominate and control him, and i don't think that will gonna change anytime soon

Yeah I can't see Brendan changing his ways any time soon. He knew he was gay, when such a thing wasn't accepted in his world I'm guessing. And so Brendan learned to hate the fact he was gay, but he knew he couldn't ignore his desires for men. So he got married and had kids like a good boy, but had his sexual affairs with men on the side to feed his desires. And then Macca got too clingly and Brendan was found out by the wife and he fled to Cheryl.
The only way Brendan has survive this long, is complete control over everything. He makes all the choices in his relationships with men. When they step out of line, he would punish them. When they outlive their usefullness he would drop them. He had no emotional attractment to any of them, it was just about sex. But now he's falling for Ste and it's freaking him out, he doesn't know how to act. He's loosing the control that he worked so hard to maintain, which probably will make him lash out even more to try and get it back.
I think Ste will ask for forgiveness for thinking he could be the arsonist. But I don't think he will be Brendan's little lap dog again. I think he will aplogize and try to have a good relationship with Brendan since they do work together. But with the memories of the beatings and his confused feelings I think he will stay away for the time being. I can see Amy making Ste promise that he will stay away from Brendan no matter what.

Thanks Jazz! I missed the shove. Gave me a great excuse to go back and watch again, and that fella went flying!
After reading all the posts it just sunk in that Brendan went into a gay bar to spy on Ste. Brendan...in a gay bar! I think we can put another check on the list of "Things Brendan normally doesn't do"
cheerios, i think you are soooo right about Macca. I hadn't thought about how seeing Brendan with Ste (and how different it was) would effect Macca, but now I see the whole "gay man scorned thing" as more than a bit ominous.
I agree with you jjose about Brendan pursuing Ste helping him to change, but I sure hope you aren't right about it not happening, but I am beginning to see how I might be in a state of denial about that. So many good points have been made that seem to lean towards Ste being the one to reconcile. Hopefully cheerios will be right and Amy will make Ste promise to stay away. That seems a good and valid way to keep the power in Ste's court for a bit longer, but if Brendan gets the lad alone..i mean really alone, I am not sure how well Ste will be able to resist him.

I'm pretty sure that Amy will get Ste to swear that he will keep away from Brendan. Maybe telling him if he goes down that road with Brendan again she won't let Ste sees the kids. And if that's not enough of a reason to go cold turkey on Brendan I don't know what is. Though with jobs being hard to find, I can see Ste staying at the club. And he tries really hard to keep everything proffessional.
But I agree with sistertwist, there is so many excuses Ste can give Brendan to avoid him. Sooner or later, Brendan is going to get Ste all alone, like in the celler or in Ste's flat. And I don't think Ste will be able to resist either when Brendan plants one on him. I think afterwards Ste will call it a mistake and plan to stay away again.

Umm, i don't think Brendan is going to change so soon (and to be honest, i don't like him to change right now, in a distant future maybe, but not right now because being a manipulative son of a b*** make him really interesting to watch). And i don't think his feelings for Ste make him change, in fact i think he probably want to take a more strict control over Ste once he had him back. I think Ste is gonna to feel really guilty of accusing Brendan, and that would make him an easy prey.
And i don't want Macca to go home, he is funny, he is not a violent type like Brendan, but he is a little manipulative, and he will cause trouble in Ste and Brendan relationship, and that would be interesting.
And they keep mentioning Ste's prison crush, and in my opinion that means that sooner or later we'll see the guy apearing in Hollyoaks

Agrees with jjose712. I think it would be interesting for Brendan and Ste to get together and then have to deal with Macca and Ste's old flame trying to break them up.

I agree Cathy, Ste did want Brendan to kiss him, and the moment Brendan saw that little flicker of weakness he went back to the business of getting rid of Amy's voicemail. Such a manipulator!! And such a pleasure to watch.

Oh, Dom, you're way out of your league so true! I enjoyed the calm predatory Brendan prowling around after Ste. That back and forth with Dom was priceless! "You're a bad person, right? You do bad things." Sigh and a nod "Yeah." He picks the most amusing times to be honest.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuEcJfPqH_QThanks to emmettscanlanfans the E4 ep for today. It's only about 3 minutes, but very interesting. Wow. First of all it's SO not over, but I'm talking about KR & ES. Not only are they hot, and have scorching chemistry, they can convey so much in one scene. Ste was so conflicted about ending it, he has feelings for him and he knows Brendan does too. When he told him he didn't want to hurt anyone and it wasn't easy for him to do this. While Brendan tried to act like he didn't care but he was hurting. t seems Rae has been taking cues from Brendan, with the Ste touching. Twice she held and stroked his hand to get what she wanted. And Rae, Brendan isn't going to let you take his Steven anywhere. But Brendan you've got no one to blame but yourself, you gave him to her. He told you he only wanted you, and went to hold you but you rejected him. I'm thinking Brendan will either "get rid" of Rae again, or do nothing and when it comes out he didn't start the fire Ste will have to decide what to do. Did Macca finally leave? Could Brendan use him to make Ste jealous? Alright people I need my Stendan. With the touching, and the putting the foreheads together, and the kissing, and the wearing a shirt to bed.

Ste didn't want to end it and it was terribly difficult for him. He only ended it because he wanted a honest open relationship and Brendan can't give him that. Brendan wouldn't even admit there was anything between them, which clearly hurt Ste. Ste never said, I don't want to be with you, I don't have feelings for you, it's Rae I want to be with. This is about Ste's feelings for Brendan, not Rae. If Brendan said 'let's be honest about us', Rae would be history. Brendan and Ste are both lying about their feelings and what they want. Ste's fooling himself if he thinks it's over and in the past. He's using her as much now as he always has been.

A part of me really does feel bad for Brendan. From his point of view i'm sure he thinks he has been an absolute prince to Ste. He was there for him during the fall out from the fire, and even comforted him in public for heaven's sake and asked him to stay at his house in front of Rae no less! He put up with all the accusations, pushes and shoves with barely a snarl in return and continued to give Ste every opportunity to see what he thinks of as reason despite the lad calling his personal code into question over and over again. it's true when the police got thrown in the mix he steps things up a bit, but I think that threat of planting drugs on Ste was weak. (especially since involves the welfare of the children) I didn't believe him...then. I think Brendan feels he has been the picture of patience and restraint (all things considered) and here comes Ste saying he "can't do this any more". The nerve! I think that is why he gives such a scoff when Ste says it's not so simple for him. I find myself thinking back to that exasperated "What would you have me do, Stephen?!" he gave in the hospital. I think it was very genuine and not something brendan is at all accustomed to feeling.
Now if Ste is really serious about ending things with brendan he knows he will need to find another job, so i am curious how he will handle that situation. If he doesn't start on that straight away I think it will be very telling. Brendan is not a sit around and sulk sorta fella. He will be looking for some leverage, and Ste's job seems the closest thing to hand (drugs too maybe?) so i am curious if he is going to play that card straight out. I am slightly worried he might go very dark very fast and discard the notion of Ste caring for him and focus simply on regaining control over him. That would be disappointing, but understandable considering what we already know about brendan.
