My full set of caps is now up in the thread opener (done as a full-sized selection/the lot as enlargeable thumbnails because it's a FULL wallpaper set and so is even more for the page to load than if I'd done them all 'standard' size)...Click below for the album link...

You could really tell that Olli was aggravated and bothered that he hadn't heard from his mother. He was fighting the espresso machine with gusto and Miriam was the one who finally got it to work. Usually, with Miriam's obvious track record, it is the other way around Thanks to the usual crew, Joanna, Mercurymay, Lizkarita, Paul and of course Nanna who enable my addiction

Many thanks to joanna for the caps, MM for the re-caps and Nanna & Paul for the clips. I wish the writers would allow the boys to be this affectionate more often, instead of playing up the affection just to serve as a foil to Henni's bias. Um, huh? They're affectionate all the time (well, when Olli isn't following Rob around like a lost puppy). ----------- Actually, I felt a little bad for Henriette. She knew Olli was marrying a man, yet made the trip, was pleasant in the flatshare, and took her son and fiance to dinner. She made an effort, and compared to simply addressing an envelope and mailing it, a considerable effort. In return she got a rather prick-ish unprovoked jab from Olli ("Some things never change" (You can say that again, bub)) and a bit of roughing up from her sister. Yeah, she overreacted, acted badly, at the table but not without some provocation. Had the boys simply held hands, maybe even gone for the quick kiss, it might've turned out differently. She didn't seem to be up on her feet and heading for the door until the boys started making out. Knowing how she felt, it seems like they could have recognized her efforts, appreciated that she was out of her comfort zone and tried not to freak her out.

Olli knew something was up with his mother and yet he gave her a chance hoping against hope that she’d changed. That her coming to see him and meet Christian meant she’d come to terms with who her son is, and had accepted it. I think Olli’s little jab about some things never changing was a defense mechanism honed by years of needing to protect himself from her bigotry.
As for Charlie I saw her as trying to protect her boys because she knows her sister. And has herself been on the receiving end of her sisters ire. But she too thought her sister coming and inviting all of them out (in public) meant that her sister had come to terms with who her son is and loves him and wants him to be happy.
If she had really changed a little kiss at dinner shouldn’t have been a big deal. But I think it was too much for her because her primary reason for coming was/is to try and disrupt the wedding.

The correct response for Henriette should've been: Now Boys, please! We're at a formal dinner. Such behavior is simply inappropriate. Oliver, I'm certain you know better than to act...so...on occasions like this. Which is what I think Charlie (how cool to know her full name: Charlotta *Charlie fanboi here) was thinking Henriette meant. PDA at this kind of formal dinner is simply socially inappropriate. But, whatever *sigh* Young People heh. Instead, having been shocked out of her 'zone' as someone put it, she decided to revert to form and make a embarrassing scene---thinking that everyone else around them would be shocked and appalled. Little does she realize that her entire tirade was meaningless...she ended up doing exactly what she was upset over: becoming publicly embarrassed. She did it to herself. My mother is the exact same way and reacted the exact same way when I kissed my boyfriend in front of her...well, not exactly. She held her peace in public and then vilified ME in private. To which I responded: The only person who should be embarrassed is me; and I am: by your ignorance and prejudice. I'm right there with Oliver. I know exactly how he feels right now. Geoff

Here's the comments I posted on YouTube. You can't reintroduce the LEGENDARY Henriette Sabel without some connection to the way she was presented her frist time on the show, and then later anecdotally between Olivia & Olli, and more recently with Charlie's glowing praise of her sister. Henriette was out of her element from the moment she walked in the door to NL, presumed that Andi was gay, and thought the whole situation could be easily handled with small talk. She was wrong. Her education begins today And if you watch Henriette really closely in the vid, the pauses, her nervousness, that she avoids eye contact a lot at dinner even before they hold hands or kiss, the outburst isn't at all out of place. It is classic Henriette. ----------------------------- I think the writers nailed it today. We may not like who Henriette is now and what she's been in the past, but the Henriette's of the world are all too real. Her arrival here is as didactic as the poorly-wraught HIV nonsense recently, but methinks this story is going to be better handled across the board. Great work by all involved!

I never get tired of Charlie just...being Charlie. That woman is not only one of my favorite VL characters, but if she were real I'd want to take her out.
And Miriam's got skills, yo. She can charm the pants off anything. Just ask the espresso maker.
I think the actress who plays Henny is doing a great job. She was really riding the line this entire episode. She was saying all the right things, but her body language was setting off warning bells in my head. How she thought she could get through a ceremony that ends with a kiss is a mystery to me. Maybe she thought she could just melt into the crowd or look away when the time came.
I have to admit though, knowing how crazy Henriette was about Olli's gayness the first time around I was little surprised Olli went for a full kiss in front of her. Could be that he didn't think about it, but that feels wrong as he's been hyper-sensitive in a 'holy god my mom is here' way since she walked in. A little test maybe?
P.S. Andi. Please. Olli's homophobic mother's is here. Put a shirt on.

Wow, Zam, thank you for the videos. They gave a good insight on the Henrietta of the past and really shows how much of a bigot she really was, even with the current amends she is making, she hasn't really gotten far from her old self all that much. Thanks to Nanna & Paul for the subbed clips for this episode clip. Love the boys. As for the coffee machine, my guess that it loves Miriam is because of all the "good karma" she's been collecting has finally paid off! She's now the coffeemakerwhisperer Gotta love Charlie. She's more of a mother to Olli than Henrietta will ever be, both in the past and in the present.

Knowing how she felt, it seems like they could have recognized her efforts, appreciated that she was out of her comfort zone and tried not to freak her out. The boys are affectionate all the time, but to me it felt a little extra today, maybe because of the extended reaction shot over to Maria, because it's rare that they show other characters, besides Miriam, going all fangirlish when they kiss. And probably i was sensitive to it because I know Henriette, and remember what a raging godzilla-bitch she was the last time she was in D-dorf. Oliver was pretty terrified of her back then. Good good catch with the passive aggressive "some things never change." bit. I don't know if the kiss was as bad as all that to have her storm out, and she was already getting riled up by the kiss on the cheek. But as silverkit pointed out, her body language was definitely leading toward her not accepting Christian and Oliver, but I didn't think it would be an angry outburst, that just didn't seem fitting with what we'd seen thus far. I figured she'd just walk out, but not hiss and yell like that. Also, Andi is allergic to shirts he is practically incapable of wearing them, how insensitive of you silverkit

Although, I can’t say I feel bad for Henriette, I do agree with you that the boys could have been a bit more considerate and not kissed each other right under her nose. They pushed her too far too fast. It all seems too rushed and therefore unbelievable that it would all play out this way. Anyway, I think Olli goes from expecting nothing from her to expecting way too much. I don't blame him for this because his mother lied about being accepting of his love for Christian. And so, I feel the most bad for Olli because there’s not much that is worse than having your own mother call you sick, disgusting and abnormal.

I do feel kind of bad for Henriette, but yeah, much worse for Olli. I truly believe that Olli wasn't trying to rub the kiss in his mom's face. I think that he just finally felt comfortable around her and didn't really think it through. Also, Christian was the first to initiate the PDA with the cheek kiss, so of course, Olli felt obligated to elaborate. And JMM - where is this "making out" you speak of? Thanks, everyone!

The boys are affectionate all the time, but to me it felt a little extra today, maybe because of the extended reaction shot over to Maria, because it's rare that they show other characters, besides Miriam, going all fangirlish when they kiss. Okey-doke. Maria going all a-flutter was cute... if odd... but cute, so I get you: fangirls of a feather-covered-heart-shaped-balloon and all... Oh, I don't either. The first kiss did get her riled up - of course, it may not have helped that she was taking shots from her kin - but if Olli had leaned over to her, kissed her on the cheek and repeated that he was glad she came, it's possible that he could've diffused the situation and avoided Mama's meltdown. Though her body language was showing her un-ease, she also made several unforced gestures: showing up at all; asking Olli if Andi was "your Christian"; taking them to dinner - and not just "them" but "Oliver and his fiance"; offering to let out Christian's clothes; telling Olli "... the main thng is that you're happy"; all of which suggests she was making a concerted effort to be accepting, despite feeling anxious. And I agree that her tizzy was a bit over-the-top and somewhat unearned. Then again, she IS a Sabel.

Although, I can’t say I feel bad for Henriette, I felt bad for her when her face lit up because her boy remembered what she took in her coffee and then he had to take a swipe at her. She got it. And even if her past behavior justified Olli's comment, it was impolite and impolitic. I agree that her final words of the ep. were horrible. I kinda just felt bad for everyone. Yes. That's all.

Quite interesting episode! I loved all the Christian and Olli interactions, they are really shining in these scenes, they're back to their perfect harmony pre Rob/Becky winter. I think that Olli's mother was sincerely trying to come to terms with her homophobia to be near her son but I think that watching a PDA was too much for her! Poor Olli Thank you as always mercury for the fantastic recap and to joanna for the beautiful caps and to nanna and paul for the clip and subs.
