I'm catching up today. Ryan is a sick puppy. Lord I hope he's not closeted and is just a bastard.

Ryan is something and ALL kinds of messed up. I get the self-loathing closeted gay vibe from him. He reminds me of the Black folks I come across who hate being Black except in Ryan's case, switch Black with gay.
While I don't agree with Preston peeing on Ryan's toothbrush as well as using it to scrub a toilet, not liking Ryan sticking Preston's cigarettes in his ass either. Both of them are wrong on bringing bodily fluids in to their conflict. I like Preston in general but it tends to get hazy when it comes to Ryan cause I agree with what Preston says about Ryan but Preston's antics can be just as immature in reaction.
Part 1 of the last episode (watch all parts on the youtube page) :

I'm not sure if this is just me or not.. But my friend and I were watching Real World and was saying that we think that maybe Ryan wants Preston and maybe he might just be in denial of his homosexuality because of the things he says and how he carries himself.. Maybe that's just our opinion but that's just the way it seems to us.. Going with the last episode.. I like the fact that Preston apologized and tried to make things somewhat normal between the two of them then at the end of the episode Ryan was telling his brother on the phone that he threw Preston's debit card out of the window.. I know Ryan isn't one of Preston's favorite ppl but if u have to live in a house with somebody you dont like you have to make the best of it and try to at least get along and stick out til the end.. Another thing was how Ryan went up to Preston and hugged him the next day as if nothing happened.. I wasn't too sure what to think ... not sure if he was tryin to sike Preston out or he's just crazy but it was funny because it was so akward.. and calling the cops was just another story in itself...

I've never watched much of any of the various Real World series'. Is this one worth paying attention to? I read the article you linked (and watched some of the clips there) and am wondering if it's worth the time (and why ). Somehow I've no particular desire to watch a homophobic jackass .

Zathras... Ryan is definitely a homophobic jackass and I also think more than a little crazy. The problem is - and what seems to be a general consensus on the other board I read - is Ryan is deeply closeted and the homophobia he presents comes off as self-hating cause it's so over the top dramatic. Ryan's really got some issues about homosexuality. Also, I think Preston triggers it. He seems to be all over Preston one moment and then next moment he's calling him names or stealing his stuff. It's worth watching just to figure out what the hell is going on with that.
Ryan's issues aside, Preston's a really cool guy and while I didn't like the toothbrush incident, he's one of the better gay men cast on the show in the past several years IMO.

I love Preston. I know what he did was wrong and he knows it too. BUT, I would rather have a guy like Preston who doesn't take shit lying down then some apologist who just lets Ryan do whatever and say whatever. The things that Ryan has said and done on the show, in his confessionals, on the telephone and now, in Twitter show that his is a very twisted young dude in need of some serious intervention type situation.
Preston is a sweet kid. He's kind, smart, funny and seems really grounded given some of his difficult life experiences.
I think BOTH Preston and Ryan are attracted to each other (you can't really control to whom you're attracted) and their responses to each other is a result of that attraction.
I don't know if Ryan is the type of guy who going to come out any time soon (he might be Bi but I honestly don't get half the raw attraction off of him with girls as he obviously has with Preston)
It's sad really because part of me wants to just grab Ryan, take him out to Fairy Land and hug him till he accepts himself and stops hating the world and everything in it because he's having feelings he doesn't want to have.
Another very strong part of me just wants to take him out to the woodshed and whip his ass till he sees the light.
I think that may also be part of Preston's struggle with him.
They can't stand each other but they can't stay away from each other.
I think that moment in the bed with Ryan and Preston was probably the most "real" moment Ryan has had.
It probably scared the crap out of him, hence all the acting out and elevated obfuscation and deflection and protestations about him being gay.
