THE DL Chronicles from HERE! TVThere were only 4 episodes to the first season of this series then it was discontinued. The second season was canceled which is just horrible because the actors are all beautiful and really great and the writer and director (a real life gay couple - Deondray Gossett and Quincy LeNear) are very talented. Deondray Gossett and Quincy LeNearI had all kinds of preconceived notions that turned out to all be false. I'm really glad I took the time to watch these stories. I'm usually very strident about coming out and being out and the importance of living an authentic life as a gay person (particularly in the US) and I haven't changed how I feel about that but I do think diverse and multifaceted voices of young men of color are often neglected in gay pop culture and it was wonderful to see the full spectrum displayed in these stories. The issues dealt were done so really well and two of the stories Story #2 - "Robert" (a closeted older man falls for an openly gay younger man) ; Story #4 - "Mark" (a long-term young gay couple deals with one's resistance to coming out to his family) were just brilliant and engaging and romantic and funny and beautifully acted and really made me want to see a full series with these characters. Story #1 "Wes" was very well acted but the lead character just made me want to smack him repeatedly (which I guess means they did their job because he comes off as a giant TOOL). But it was wonderfully acted. Just very dark and frustrating. Story #3 "Boo" the acting was good but I just did not care for the story at all. I'm sure there are young men who could totally relate to this story but I could barely watch it. It was too much. Too harsh. Too senseless. The acting was very good but it just made me very depressed with no release. MY FAVORITESRobert and Austin - #2 "Robert"Mark and Donte - #4 "Mark"If you're in the US, you can watch all 4 episodes on "gay.com" website www.gay.com/view/group.do?group=82I'm sure there are other places on the web you can find them as well.

My response to the DL Chronicles almost mirrors that of HQ75. I found each episode, with the possible exception of the first, well written, directed and acted.
The fault in the first, "Wes" seemed to be a less than completely conceptualized story and actors who did not seem comfortable in the roles. Even so, it was worth the watch and the slow start certainly made me appreciate the rest of the too-short series.
Episode 2, Robert's story, was very real - very authentic in terms of the tale, the emotions, the concerns raised. The humor added to, instead of detracting or distracting from the story's focus. The scenes of physical intimacy were visually appealing and showed that the actors and director put a lot of thought into evoking the right emotional response from viewers. All of the actors were superb, but extra kudos go to Terrell Tilford for his portrayal of Robert. When the tears glisten in his eyes at a key moment, I dare anyone not to be touched and sympathetic. (No spoilers here - go watch it! You won't be sorry)
Episode 3 "Boo" was unrelentingly disturbing. Unrelentingly. Disturbing. When I considered why, though, I found it was because it portrays a reality that I could not deny, no matter how far outside my personal frame of reference it stood. There are people just like Boo and his friends out there and they are not limited to the black or brown communities. As uncomfortable as I felt while watching it, this was the DL episode that made me think the most. It made me consider my own prejudice against that DL man and the arguments behind those prejudices. "Boo" played to all the stereotypes that make DLs so disliked within the black community, but then exposed the underbelly of heterosexual promiscuity so that while the previous was not justified, the latter was far from deified. I'll add that one of the things that made me so uncomfortable was the seeming emotional detachment of sex and sexuality in this episode. It all seemed purely physical (and over the top) and some of the choices characters made drove me crazy! There is more I would like to say, but it might drive me into spoiler territory.
For me, episode 4 was entertainment in its truest most...erm entertaining form. I loved "Mark"!!! I awwwed, I laughed, I gasped, then I laughed some more! Not much I can say about this one without giving plot away, but I will say, watch it!! It's not often that you get gay-themed drama that puts a big smile on your face.
Re: where to watch it. I can confirm that HQ75's link to the full episodes at gay.com can also be accessed from the UK and Canada. I would suggest that if you are outside the US, UK and Canada you should try anyway. I'm not certain that geo-restrictions have been placed on the show.

Every time Mark called Donte "Baby", I just melted into a pile of goo. Seriously, I would have given him anything he wanted. I agree with you about Robert too. ;D The way he had kept himself in such a small box, to finally see him just allow himself to feel, beautiful to see. Wonderfully acted. I can't believe such a great show never got picked up by Logo. I mean what the hell to gay channels want. The characters from Episode 2 and Episode 4 could have made a perfect comedy/drama. Perfect blend for a weekly hourly show. So sad. Still...

Perfect blend for a weekly hourly show. So sad. Still... I don't only fault Logo. I think this show had enough potential to make it in a mainstream forum (HBO comes to mind). I imagine that with the increased financial backing a contract like that would have brought, the DL Chronicles could have been a great series with long term potential! I really think it's a pity that it never made it past episode 4. I mean, even Noah's Arc got a longer run than that and the acting on that show was... I know erratic might be the wrong word. Inconsistent? Sometimes passable, sometimes poor, sometimes (Wilson Cruz!!!) great. The point is, I don't think DL got a fair shake at proving itself, either in the world of gay-themed drama or in that of mainstream television.

Here's the 2nd episode from the DL Chronicles.
This one features Robert (Terrell Tilford - from One Life To Live). I have to say that was one of the best gay episodes from a show I have ever seen.

Robert and Mark were my favorite chapters. I think the two should combine and become their own show.
