Jeez, Phil is useless. It's tough to watch Ben not care anymore about himself. At least, that's how I took that last scene. He lost the man he loved and now he's drifting. I don't hold as much hope as Sharon and Kathy about the police, but just so Ben doesn't throw his life away doing something stupid. I'm so glad that Babe was (at least partially) found out. She's always been a vile witch as long as I've watched. I didn't buy her crocodile tears before she was thrown out. It took far too long for her to get found out, though.

I really like Ben & Jay's relationship. I like that they can rely on each other. I'm very curious what they're plotting now...

I quite enjoy the show right now. It feels like it's firing on all cylinders. A number of great stories well-balanced with a few ordinary, everyday ones. I wish we hadn't lost Paul but the drama and the performances we're getting out of it from Pam, Les and Ben almost make it worthwhile. (Almost...)
I wonder how soon we'll be headed for Ben and Johnny? I hope they will take their time to give Ben his next love interest, but there's no reason why Johnny can't get some action in the meantime. I know people keep saying he will lure Steven away from Lauren but the recent episodes make me suspect it'll be Abi who develops a crush on Steven. (I swear that girl never learns; didn't she have enough trouble keeping hold of her man the first time she hooked up with a Beale fighting same-sex attraction?) If Steven falls through, I hope we'll see more of the hot paramedic who gave his number to Johnny - I have a strong suspicion he is Ben's one-night stand who gave him chlamydia and started the STI outbreak around Albert Sq. And Ben will be forced to come clean when he sees Johnny getting serious with him.
And can I just commend the show for keeping the secret of Mark Fowler Jr's paternity for 21 years in REAL time? That's a real accomplishment, in a time when fans want instant gratification. If this had been an American soap, Mark would have been aged up to 21 within 3 years and had the secret explode by then.

I'm not sure if I'll bother to watch anymore. EastEnders is my favorite soap but all my favorite characters are leaving, so what's the point. First Paul and now (highlight to read): Ronnie and Roxy.

Finally got caught up. Yikes, kidnapped by the killers. Ben was seething. I wonder if he'll be able to restrain himself. Thing is, he's really outnumbered so attacking right then would be really stupid. Though it sounds like at least one of the thugs had misgivings. Do they know that they actually murdered Paul, not just beat him up? Ben and Pam had a nice, but tremendously sad conversation last week. It was long overdue. Hopefully she saw what Paul meant to Ben, and how she misjudged Ben. Seemed like it, but she's turned around before. I liked Ben sticking up for Jay last week. Phil is still an ass.

Oh, jeez, they left Jay behind? I'm still trying to figure out why Jay ran when the police opened the door, though. He was the one who was kidnapped. Was it just momentary bad judgment? I hope nothing bad happens to him. At least a couple of the thugs had a bit of a conscience. Just enough to not want to murder Ben, too, anyway. Not the ringleader, though. It was nice to see Ben challenge them that way, instead of trying to kill them.

I'm continuing to find all of this storyline pretty disappointing. It feels like none of it is really about Ben or Paul, and like Paul's murder and Ben's grief and quest for revenge are being used as backdrops for other storylines, like Grant and Mark and Phil's continued health decline. So many things have happened offscreen, and there was never any tension or emotion or depth in today's episode. This could have been so good and emotional, with Ben being confronted with the same situation he was in when he lost Paul, watching Jay being threatened and then coming very close to being murdered himself, but it all just felt so bland.
And yeah, I really didn't get leaving Jay behind. One, because Ben and Jay were the ones kidnapped, so I'm not sure why it would threaten the case against Paul's murderers for Ben/Jay to be found there, and two, if the van door could be opened from the outside (as we saw when the cops freed him), it would've take about 5 seconds to get Jay out of there so he could get away with Grant, Mark, and Ben.
