Can anyone say scapegoat. OLTL had awful ratings before Kish but now they are the blame? I know they will lose a lot of viewers including myself when Scott and Brett leave. It sounds like ABC gave them an ultimatum to make a drastic move. I think OLTL will be off the air within the year.

Zam, those are such good points!! Now if we can see those obvious problems why the heck can't TPTB? As I said to Sonnenschein earlier: "Beautifully acted and well written love stories are rare enough but make it a gay romance and it's the rarest of flowers. Which makes the pain of losing it felt all the harder. Despite being mad as all get out ( really really avoiding swearing here) at not only the show's decision to get rid of Kish period BUT on top of it to blame Kish for the show's poor ratings BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY not informing the actors involved first? ? That is the most crass, rude, uncaring and disrespectful thing to do!!! I feel really badly for Brett, Scott and the twin's parents that they had to find out this way. And by giving the reason that Kish are presumed to be responsible for the rating remaining low you are playing right into the hands of those who would argue that people are turned off by gay characters and encouraging other shows not to include them. Even if a black character or an inter-racial couple were assumed to be the reason for ratings remaining low do you think those same shows would say that in the press? I don't think so. I figured OLTL would be canceled within a year or so anyhow but I never figured they would get rid of Kish. What, should we be happy they aren't killing them off? What's happening? Ollian is a mess and Kish is disappearing. Cenny I expect to be masses of woe and despair because that seems to be their M.O. But there has to be hope somewhere. DeRo can't be expected to carry all of us. Where are all the good, well written, well acted, gay couples going? Felt like I was hit in the stomach hearing the news." I'm glad that it looks like they are going to get to go out with a happy ending but I am heartbroken that a couple that I'd just come to know will be gone far too soon. Their story wasn't concluded as executive producer Frank Valentini said, it was just begining! Having a coming out story and then shunting them off? Can we ever move beyond the once a character is gay there's nothing more for the writers to do with them bs!! OLTL, you really did "break new ground for same-sex couples" but then you threw them down that same hole! (Saw this in jsg03jd's comment* over at AfterElton.com) ONE LIFE TO LIVE contact information: New York City Comment Line: 212-456-7777 or 212-456-3338 ABC line in LA: 818-560-1000 Mailing Address: ONE LIFE TO LIVE 320 W. 66th Street New York, NY 10023 * www.afterelton.com/blog/dennis/kish-leaving-oltl Wow that's below the belt not telling the actors involved first. And to blame them for their lost of ratings? No I'm pretty sure having Jessica become a teen again and Mitch showing up for the millionth time help that along. Considering OLTL hasn't been doing that great with ratings before Kish showed up makes me think mainstream America wasn't really OLTL bosom friend in the first place. I would think that Kish brought in viewers because people were impressed that ABC/OLTL would take a step forward in equal reputation of showing a gay couple like any other couple. I do think that OLTL will be canceled sometime soon and then they will have no one to blame but themselves.

Stunned, devastated, shocked, these are the words that discribe my feelings. The best storyline ever on daytime television in America and played by the most wonderful actors!! What is wrong with ABC, and blame them for the ratings??? That sucks and I have no words for it!!! Scott and Brett made OLTL international and ...now they have to go??? Beyond words, beyond!!! ABC -> great job NOTTT!!!!

Blaming them for the low ratings is what bothers me the most, and worse yet is that firing the actress who plays Rachel suggests someone at ABC also blames ethnic minorities. OLTL at its best was a show full of complex and diverse characters of all colors struggling with their feelings and with society. Where is that now? A show with Rex, Gigi, Todd, John, and so on is increasingly unwatchable and shallow, and yet they get no blame for the ratings loss.

Thanks hon for posting the contact info I have some adds: brian.frons@abc.com, brian.frons@email.disney.com, and frank.valentini@abc.com abc.go.com/site/contact-usI already wrote them, but I didn't ask for Kish to be brought back on, because I wouldn't wish my enemies that kind of treatment and I don't want a repeat of that. The signs are saying, that Scott and Brett found out after us. This is just not the way to treat people. So no. As sad (and furious) as I am, I do not want ABC to change their mind or if they do, I wish for Scott and Brett to decline. If there is a soap (fairy) god, that decision will bite ABC - at the GLAADs, the Emmy Awards. I am just hoping now, that we will get an actual farewell, but I do not have much hope.

One way to make this decision bite OLTL in the ass is to make sure (somehow) that Brett and Scott, who were pre-nom'd make the nominations cut, and then do something to make sure they both win Emmy's for this story.
Make sure that the actors are rewarded. Then maybe it will make TPTB at the network and the show realize what an assinine decision this was.
No, it won't bring Kish back to us, but it will help the actors find work if they haven't already by then.

Yeah the boys won't be brought back, but at least we can let it know to ABC and OLTL that we won't stand for this treatment.

WTF?!?! They're blaming the low ratings on these guys?! I call BULLSHIT. Hopefully their ratings will sink further after these two are gone.

Jamey Giddens reported all the Evans family, minus Greg, in a doctor role, will be gone.
ABC Daytime says screw you to gays AND blacks yet again...they're quite good at this.

Oh, so Destiny too? carld2, that makes me VERY unhappy since Greg was the one I wanted to go away. I like Destiny and Shaun. The parents are ok.

I can see Layla staying in a supporting role, along with Greg. They might date once or twice every few months, and talk to their white friends. I think Cris may be back with Jess, and Brody will go. I will be surprised if Marty and Brody stay around.
I guess since most of the Evans family is recurring, they could stay, but then, Fish is recurring and he's not staying...
I liked Destiny more and more and I also liked the parents. I'm sorry to see them go. I'm most upset to see Rachel go. I loved Ellen Bethea's Rachel and we in a way almost had that Rachel again. DD being so casually dumped was a harbinger of what was to come.

Here is a little poll to say you'll stop watching OLTL as soon as Kish is off: tvguide.ca/Soaps/I think posters on ABC (but am not 100% sure which board it was) are calling for a "OLTL tune out". To show them how LOW ratings can go and how fast. If I was living in the States I'd be so in!!! @ Zam: I am having everything crossed and pressed, that they make it passed the prenom to an actual nomination. I just want TPTB to seriously feel the pain! And with the latest news, I think it won't take a year for OLTL to be off air. At this rate, they won't survive the summer...

Wow I thought it was just the boys and Sky. They're getting rid of a lot of people. You know you would think that ABC would look at what NBC did and think that's stupid.
But then they go an pull there own stupid stunt. I know daytime is different than prime time. But I think this is stupider because this screwing over the gays and minorities which are not really people you want to piss off. I wouldn't be surprised if OLTL get cancels soon.

This is kind of coming at a really bad time for me, too. Everything is sort of sucking for me right now, but at least I had a storyline that I could follow that I really loved. Now I'm in a really low place, with nothing to hold on to. It's kind of sad that it meant so much to me, I guess, but it's like the only thing left that made me smile was Kish. And now...I mean, I'm scared.

The thing is with OLTL like AtWT struggling with ratings and ATWT was cancelled but they did not drop Nuke, even bringing in a possible new story. The thing is when the rumours started circulating that Scott Evans may have been looking at some new shows I started getting uneasy, but I thought they could work around it, Kyle(Brett Claywell) was still on contract so they would still kind of be in the show, there was even a comments about this is what happens when they don't sign talent immediately. Now I just feel sad. What is worse is the ratings decline blamed on them, that is just wrong. I hope their ratings drop to half of what they are the day after Kish leaves.

I wasn't going to comment on this - at least that's what I told myself about two hours ago when I first caught up with the news. Yet it didn't leave my mind and I wouldn't want to go to bed without putting my thoughts out there. Wrapping up a storyline that has come to an end and therefore writing off the characters involved in it might not be the most earth-shattering novelty in the daily soap universe. That's what these shows live by and I'm happy to accept change even if it does mean that I have to let go of some beloved ones. What I hate most in the world is a way of sugarcoating the truth, a way of using euphemisms to cover up a more profound problem ... which is precisely why I'm all vexed about the official statements made by Frank Valentini. (The fun continues over here ... www.tvguidemagazine.com/soaps/one-life-to-live-kos-kish-4337.html) Oh yeah? Broken new ground with a same-sex couple? Give me a break. It certainly hasn't made much of a difference if it's the first thing to go when ratings plummet. There are more than one reason for a TV show to lose viewers and frankly, OLTL has come up with a lot of them. It must have been the easiest way to get rid of what's most inconvenient (which is quite a natural thing to do in general, I guess). I'm not saying that a gay couple is some sort of holy cow that must not be slaughtered - things have to go when they have to go. I'd rather see a gay couple go out with a bang instead of watching it all go down the drain. But putting all the blame on a generally still delicate topic (and that is just sad!) is false and some lame attempt to get past the actual problem. So here we go with the euphemisms ... "mainstream audience". Oh I'd love to know what that is. Does that mean that viewers of the LGBT community are out and not mainstream? What about the straight viewers who just enjoy seeing some much needed fresh air on TV? Are they suddenly out of the regular? Generalize, much? I would loved that phrase being defined. What "mainstream audience" really stands for is some retard anti-gay lobby that fears moral impureness or is somehow threatened to confront their own narrow-minded sense of life. It might have rung a bell somewhere way up at the decision-makers that axed Oliver and Kyle. Blah blah ... I could go on like that forever. I know this is a TV series that we are talking about. But as a mature person I just like a little cup of truth every now and then and that just doesn't stop at television. If Kyle and Oliver are too much to handle for the makers of OLTL, then so be it. I'd still shake my head yet get over it eventually. But when missing moral integrity and covering up the truth collide, I'm out. I hope you guys don't mind my venting over here!

The thing that I don't understand is the ratings have not changed much since before Kish started last year. If anyone wants to take a look: boards.soapoperanetwork.com/forum/4-ratings-archive/Maybe I am missing something. I think their ratings will plummet even further once Kish is gone. They are the only reason that I came back to the show and will no longer watch when they are gone and I know a lot of people feel the same way. If the only reason they are doing this is to bring Thornston Kaye and Alicia Minshew to the show, then it will backfire.

I just sent a postcard to Brian Frons, President of ABC Daytime via USPS and it was free! Thanks to info provided by the 'Don't Put Kish in a Closet' campaign, just follow the links: dontputkishinthecloset.blogspot.com/It only takes a few minutes and did I say free? PS: If you haven't done it yet then go take this poll now: tvguide.ca/Soaps/

I get the fact that OLTL isn't doing that well and they are throwing overboard anyone and everyone to save their own skin. But blaming the reason on not connecting with "mainstream audience" is a chicken cop out and below the belt. Stereotypically the main viewer for daytime television are middle class housewives and kids at home sick.
