I just read about a short Norwegian gay sami movie, about two sami guys. The movie is apparently going to be "beautiful and erotic". We get to see them kiss etc. This sounds interesting, cause I don't think a movie like this have ever been made before. Our government has lately focused on sami people who are gay, how they are treated etc. So this comes as a nice addition to that. The movie hasn't been released yet, I don't even know the title of it, but I will try and upload it here as soon as I get a hold of it www.finnmarken.no/lokale_nyheter/article4108903.eceETA: The name of the movie is "The spiritual kiss" (Vuoinnalas cummá).

Hello Messyme what is the meaning of "sami?" Thanks. The sami people are the indigenous people of Scandinavia. They have their own culture and language and live in the Northern parts of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia.

This sounds like it could be a really interesting film. Given that Sami lives predominantly revolve around the family and thier semi-nomadic way of life following their herds of reindeer, I'd imagine it could be a very difficult environment to be gay in.

Yup, that is why the guy made it. He is a gay sami himself, but he's a sea sami, not a mountain sami. He didn't face discrimination when he came out, not the discrimination the sami people from Finnmark face anyway. He talked with some from the mountain areas, and they all said it was really hard to come out, because the society is very traditional and conservative. So he made this movie to focus on the samis, and to maybe help them and show that being gay is not that bad

I just hope it's in Norwegian and not in Sami, cause I have NO IDEA what they say if it's in Sami.. The Sami language kinda reminds me of Finnish, COMPLETELY different from Norwegian! All Sami stuff are usually subbed in Norwegian though, I'm sure I can translate if it has Norwegian subs

Sorry for the late reply, have been busy the last days..
The translation: What happens with the gays in Sapmi? Gay Samis have tradiitionally been a natural part of the Sami community. Gay people was seen as carriers of special spiritual power in the old Sami culture, and they were often important shamans. The most important shamans were often androgynous and had the male and female understanding and sensitivity. But the sami community has lost something along the road. Homosexuality is today seen as something ugly and unnormal, and it's sad to see that mercy and love stops with the gays.
