OMG! What was that ending? 😲I have to admit I wasn't expecting that. And while it was visually a bit convoluted in how it played out, if I have it right... Nghia had the same heart disease as his (nasty) mother and once he realised he didn't have much time left he returned home so as not to be a burden to Thien. His father made him comfortable and cared for him as his condition worsened, finally contacting Thien when Nghia's time was almost up so they could say goodbye to each other. Forty years pass and a tired and aged Thien sits alone in the garden, but is visited by a still young Nghia who takes his hand and tells him it's time for them to be together again. Thien's eyes close for the last time.
I have to admit I'm not very good with bittersweet endings. I didn't like how 'Dear Doctor, I'm Coming for Soul' finished and I didn't like this; even though it could be argued that Nghia's eternal love was proven by the fact he waited for Thien to join him so they could move on together. Admittedly, that really would be a case of love transcending everything, including death... but nah, even that didn't help to stop me feeling downcast at the end.
Having said all that, I do think this was probably the best production from O2 that I've seen. The camera work was clear and sharp and had a nice relaxed, almost rural feel to it most of the time. I'm not really sure why, but I rather took to Tran Le Duc, maybe it was his smile (or his neck-biting!) but either way I would like to see him in something else.
