Does the gay character get a love life? Or just the lesbians? Why did they make Constatine a woman and a lesbian? He's supposed to be a gay/bi man. This is such a fucking cop-out. Once again the lesbians get more characters while the gays get breadcrumbs. Fuck this shit. I hope it gets cancelled. Then again, I'm glad I lost all hope ages ago when it comes to gay storylines on American tv shows. They ALL suck. If you want good gay storylines look overseas. USA has an issue with gay men.

IIRC, Neil Gaiman said he wanted to change John Constantine's gender in The Sandman for diversity purposes and there's a show currently in the works about John Constantine. As for the show, the lesbians don't get more characters. Gay/bi men literally have Paul McGuire, Alex Burgess, The Corinthian, and Hal and Carl. I also wouldn't be complaining about lesbians getting representation considering the amount of lesbian centered media that were cancelled this year alone.

FWIW, Neil Gaiman says he decided to combine the two related characters Johanna and John Constantine into one because they cast such a talented actress (Jenna Coleman, one of the Doctor Who companions) that he wanted her to portray the modern day descendant too. Originally, Johanna was the ancestress of John. He does say that John still exists, this is a different descendant - I guess we'll see if he ever puts in an appearance in future seasons (assuming it gets renewed).
I know the original comics were somewhat short of major female characters, but considering other crucial roles (like Lucifer) have already been gender-swapped to boost the female representation, it does leave a bad taste in one's mouth that one of the rarest types of LGBTQ+ characters on TV, the bi man, also fell victim. That's two such characters when you consider Lucifer was also a queer male in his previous incarnation. There are really too many cases of queer male characters being swapped out for female ones. Why not swap out some of the straight/cis characters instead of treating the LGBTQ+ community as interchangeable?

Oh puhlease... the lesbians have PLENTY of representation. The GLAAD report even said there are more lesbian characters than gay (male) characters. I don't feel bad for the lesbians at all, especially considering several gay/bi gay male characters have been genderswapped lately, like How I Met Your Father, The Sandman etc. Weird how you never see the opposite, isn't it? They give no thought sacrificing gay male characters but NEVER sacrifice the lesbian characters. And as I said they have PLENTY of representation. Just go to AfterEllen. Tons and tons of tv shows with lesbian representation. Not only that but the lesbian characters get to kiss and have sex and most of them are major characters, while we have to settle for breadcrumbs when it comes to gay male representation. The gay male characters usually have small roles, as in they are barely there. They also very rarely get to have a love life, with kissing and sex, like the lesbians.

Do they get a love life, as in, do we get to see them kiss and have sex? I won't watch if they are neutered. They have to at least get to kiss for me to watch it. I read ths article which showed the lesbians kissing, but not the gay guys. That's why I asked. www.homosensual.com/entretenimiento/series/sandman-por-que-personaje-johanna-constantine-es-mujer-serie-jenna-coleman/

The Corinthian and Hal (John Cameron Mitchell) do have sex off air. The Corinthian does kiss a few men

While the Corinthian is a baddie and gets killed off at the end of the season, he does return in the comics (and the show hints at this) as a good guy when Dream recreates him like he did Gault. And yeah, they did gender swap a few characters, but I felt like John Constantine and even Lucifer's bisexuality was so very minimally portrayed in the comics that I don't know if it is worth making a huge fuss about.
