This reminds me a lot of the Dutch series Spangas which was also set in a school with kids of similar age - the characters even break the fourth wall and address viewers directly. There are 15 episodes and the third ep is centered on/narrated by the gay character Daniele. He has a crush on Mirko but as of yet it's not been revealed if he reciprocates. It's a rather cute series and I applaud them for having the courage to have a regular gay character in middle school - especially in light of the increasingly rightwing political atmosphere in Italy. One thing which I wish they had done differently though is Daniele's friend group. Although he starts off with the boys (Pietro and Giulio), he begins to gravitate towards the girls and they're the first to find out that he's gay. This is quite a tired trope to be still trotted out in this day and age.
ETA: Episode 8 is also Daniele-centric, and episode 13 is Mirko-centric.

The second episode also have some Daniele content as Isa was hoping to get her first kiss from him

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. There is Daniele content beyond the episodes that he narrates, most notably in several of the girls' episodes (as a byproduct of him becoming "one of the girls" following his coming-out to them, which he never does with the boys, apart from Mirko for obvious reasons). It's just that episodes 3 and 8 are the ones which he narrates as the central character (and those still include content pertaining to other characters, too). I guess the fact that Daniele gets two episodes makes him one of the second-tier leads; only Pietro and Livia get more narrations, and Isa is the only other character with two like Daniele. Surprisingly, Pietro's best friend Giulio and "Miss Universe" Arianna only get one narration each.
The season ends on a cliffhanger so hopefully there will be a renewal. This show itself is probably too juvenile for most board members (it's even more fluffy and saccharine than Heartstopper, which is unsurprising considering the protagonists' ages) but I do think its gay representation will be hugely impactful to middle schoolers.

It's been a long time coming, and frankly I'd given up hope (attributing it to Italy's new far-right government) but it turns out the show's been renewed for season 2, now in production. Daniele's actor is featured in the announcement video; his boyfriend is not (so I assume he is either off the show or still on recurring status). http://instagram.com/p/CoPZ54mMMtr

The first half of season 2 has premiered but only in Italy. Previously, the international release followed a couple of months later so perhaps we can expect it by year-end. The back half of the season will debut (again, presumably, only in Italy at first) in March 2024.
Sadly, the trailer has lots of heterosexual focus and doesn't hint at anything similar for the gay regular, apart from looking jealous at his first crush getting a girlfriend (no sign of the actor playing his own boyfriend) and teaching the other kids to dance (of course).

The first half of season 2 will premiere on October 10 internationally (at least according to my Netflix). Shame that nothing substantial have happened between them, but there's still hope for 2B, I guess.

I skimmed the first half of season 2 that was released recently. Episode 5 is the one from Daniele's POV. While the other episodes had a romantic focus, his episode doesn't have anything on his love life and instead revolves around a dance-off. I did think maybe they were telegraphing a new love interest among the dancers, but nothing came of it in the episode. I didn't hear what happened to his boyfriend from season 1, and instead Daniele is back to mooning over his straight best friend, although by episode's end he has accepted that he has found love (with a girl). So, like you say, if there's to be any hope, it will be in the second half of the season.

It seems like part 2 of this season may have aired in Italy already, because I've seen some spoilers on Twitter. I'm looking forward to it, because it seems like something happens with Daniele and Mirko!

I'm looking forward to it, because it seems like something happens with Daniele and Mirko! I saw that too and was pleasantly surprised! Wasn't expecting that - had assumed Daniele would only ever get a guest star love interest. Me too! I really thought Daniele would get with the dancer that complimented him at the battle, but I'm glad that wasn't the case. And considering their friendship that slowly built up over time, Daniele being with Mirko is SO much better than him getting with a random guest character. Though, despite my surprise, I started to wonder about Daniele and Mirko in 2x07, because of the way Mirko looked at him when they were hanging out with Bianca. But before that, I thought of Mirko as Daniele's straight best friend that Daniele was pining for (though I did ship them, I just didn't see anything happening). Briefly when I watched season 1, I thought that maybe Mirko liked Dani because of the way he reacted to the kiss, and the awkward 'let's be friends' thing, but I quickly got over that because nothing else was hinted at, and because Daniele 'moved on' with that guest character. I'm so glad it wasn't the typical 'boy falls in love with their straight best friend and is rejected, only to find love with some random guest character' story. I have a VPN, so I watched part 2 on Netflix Italy (it included English subtitles, so I don't really understand why part 2 isn't released in other countries), and I really enjoyed their storyline!
