After a hugely disappointing first seaso, the Season 2 trailer finally gives us a reason to start its own thread - looks like there might even be a gay love scene!

I got around to watching this. First few episodes of season 2 made me think we were being gay-baited. The potential love interest for Luka flirts with him but ultimately has sex with a girl. Lots and lots of straight sex (including a threesome where the two girls make out with each other). Frankly I was beyond disgusted and cursing myself for even bothering to give the show a chance. Then almost at the tail end of the season, it happens. There's even a gay male sex scene - just the one, and I'm not sure it makes up for the multiple heterosexual scenes we had to endure from the same character. But then ... Luka gets thrown off a building and I thought for sure that Bury Your Gays syndrome had struck again (can you blame me, with this show's track record?). But he's just in a coma and eventually awakens, just in time for his boyfriend to get wrongly arrested for the murder committed by Luka's brother. So if there is a third season, Luka is probably back to being single. Tonally the season felt very off. I didn't pay a lot of attention skimming season 1, but it doesn't strike me as very Rebelde-esque. Oh, and despite our speculation that Sebas would turn out to be bi, there's no such development in this season. However, Teen Vogue did interview the actor, Alejandro Puente, and he talks about his breakout gay role in The Club, and being an out actor in Latin America. www.teenvogue.com/story/netflix-rebelde-star-alejandro-puente-season-2-interview

I won't be watching it then. It's also a total cop-out that the ONE out actor in the cast isn't allowed to play gay. Why have an out actor if there's no chance the character is gay or bi? Yes, I know gay actors can play straight, but on the other hand straight actors should not play gay. This is why I see Sebas NOT being bi as a lost opportunity. Here we have an out actor, why not make the character bi? Once again it seems like another set of showrunners who are homophobic and aren't able to create a gay (male storyline). Funny how they don't seem to have a problem with lesbians. Last but not least I just want to say I'm pissed that they gaybaited us since the first trailer of the show, teasing one, if not two gay characters. Then we find out in season 1 that we don't have any gays, yet we have lesbians (wtf?!) I realize that maybe the showrunners wanted the characters to go in another direction, but maybe some higher ups said no? I doubt it was Netflix, as we know they have no problem with gay characters. My guess is that someone said no because of the conervative latin market, maybe someone said making two characters lesbian would be easier to sell. Idk... otherwise nothing of this gaybaiting makes any sense. And be damn sure that throwing us crumbs in the last episode of season 2 does NOT make up for it. It's so weird though because Elite has had great success precisely BECAUSE of the gay storyline. So many showrunners today are fucking idiots because they seemingly have no idea what they're missing by not making characters gay. There's a reason shows like Heartstopper, Love Victor, Young Royals and Elite are so popular. Truth is the viewers WANT more gay storylines, yet showrunners refuse to give it to us, gaybait, throw us crumbs, or do a piss poor job. I'm so sick of this shit. Sadly, I have lowered my expectations lately about most shows, because I know gay represenation right now is abysmal. And be sure I will NOT be watching Rebelde. Throwing is crumbs is not enough. It does not make up for the piss poor job they've been doing on the gay front since season 1. They have to do a lot better than this for me to start watching.

Didn't realize there was another scene after Luka woke up before reading this comment. Yeah, I won't be surprised if a lot of people missed that scene because it's after the credits roll. Anyway here is the gay love scene. (Not embedding it here to avoid spoilers for those who are following the story since it doesn't take place until 2x06.) www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_lAzyECquM

I don't blame you for not wanting to watch, I questioned my decision even to skim the season several times. I think you get the gist of the gay storyline just by watching the one clip I posted above, LOL. I'm conflicted about the direction that only gay actors should play gay roles, but still be allowed to play straight ones. I suspect it will backfire on gay actors and stoke resentment among people who would otherwise be allies. (I see it happening a lot in the corporate line.) FWIW, I've seen people who are better versed about the Latin American entertainment industry than me claim that Luka's love interest is a casting coup for the show, and they were especially surprised that he signed up to play such an overtly sexual gay love scene.

Finally watched this show. It wasn't as bad as I expected. Okane and Luka have amazing chemistry. I'm annoyed by the little time they spent together, and Okane is your run of the mill fuckboy. I was so mad at him for standing Luka up (and for a chick! ugh!), but I'm glad he apologized and Luka took him back, even though I'm not sure Okane deserved it. Anyways, I hated the fact that Luka ended up in a coma. It's so cliche, I feel like they only did that to keep them apart, so they didn't have to create more gay scenes for them, including kissing and sex. With that said, I liked the fact that Okane was by his side the entire time. That proved just how much he means to him. Despite Okane's straight relationship getting more screentime, I feel like he had a deeper connection with Luka, from the start, but it was made clear when Luka was in a coma. And at least he woke up, so they won't keep them apart for much longer. I'm also glad they didn't kill him off. I hate that stupid trope. Oh, and one more thing that I forgot: I'm glad Luka's asshole brother was the one who killed that guy who threw Luka off the roof, anf that Okane had nothing to do with it. This means they can't use that to break them up next season. There is no more secrets between them, it's over. Luka's brother was arrested. Okane is innocent.

I'm not sure there will be a third season, it's been quite a while and Netflix is usually faster with a renewal announcement. For a reboot of a hugely popular property, this really did not get the kind of noise you would expect. I personally think they got the tone very wrong, nor was the music memorable. I was frankly surprised that it even got a second season (though I'm glad it did because that finally gave us some gay male representation and one of the hottest gay sex scenes on Netflix). Was it because they filmed seasons 1 and 2 back-to-back?

Was it because they filmed seasons 1 and 2 back-to-back? It's very weird, I googled it and some websites say they're already filming season 3, while others say it hasn't been renewed yet. I'm not sure what to believe? I agree with you though, that Netflix is usually quick to announce their renewals. Though I think there was one show that aired back in August that they recently renewed. It also gives me hope for Alma, though my gut feeling tells me it's getting cancelled (which is a shame, because it had one of the better gay storylines this year). I'm still hopeful until I hear otherwise. I do agree though that they need to improve if they really do get a season 3, because season 2 wasn't great, despite the improvement of the gay storyline.

I follow Saak (Okane) on social media and for sure they haven't shot another season yet
