Legacies is a spin-off of the Originals which is itself a spin-off of the Vampire Diaries, which is a show that is about vampires, werewolves, and witches in the fictional town of Mystic Falls. The Vampire Diaries (TVD) franchise has generally not had a great history with gay male characters (although they've already had a few lesbian couples). The last gay couple was in the Originals, where both characters were minor supporting characters and were eventually killed off. Legacies is currently midway through their 4th season and has recently introduced a new guest character, Ben (Zane Phillips), who is likely to be a major character in the upcoming story arc. If you're unfamiliar with TVD shows, the plot tends to move very quickly, with each season have 2 or more "chapters". Each chapter has its own major villains and guest stars and character turnover is very high. It's unknown if Ben will remain after the current chapter (or if the show will even get a 5th season) but all signs point to he will be prominent for at least this one. While the show generally only has witches, werewolves, and vampires, Ben is a new type of supernatural that the show has not had before. The last episode (4x10) revealed in a flashback that he had a male lover. The actor is also probably gay, just by looking at his Instagram. Ben is likely to enter a relationship with current show regular Jed (Ben Levin), who is the Alpha of a local werewolf pack. Jed was a guest character in the earlier seasons of Legacies, but was promoted to regular in S3. He's still just a supporting character and hasn't had much character development and has only shown interest in women previously. His relationship with Ben will probably be one of his biggest storylines in his time on the show.

I didn't see this thread earlier and I was coming to add it! When I watched last weeks episode I felt a vibe between those two, but thought it could just be queerbaiting, since there have been no signs of Jed being anything but straight. When they confirmed Jed's feelings this week I was happily surprised not only that it was real but also that Jed admitted it so quickly. While Jed is still coming to terms with his feelings towards a guy, I think their biggest hurdle is actually going to be Ben, because living forever being tortured and probably not being fully able to connect with others because of who he is doesn't make it easy to open up and fall for another person. Especially given how it looks like he's still carrying the pain from Ash's death and what it lead to thousands of years later. It's why Ben says he "likes simple", so I'm guessing he doesn't do serious relationships. I'm curious and hopeful to see how it plays out.

It's still fairly unusual for ostensibly straight guys to fall in love with another man, whereas hitherto straight women embracing lesbian relationships seems to happen with regularity. The CW has a lot of bromances which they play the hell out of but never let turn into anything more, so this is a first for them. Let's hope they do it justice.

I know it seems like Jed is a grown adult (I think the actor is in his thirties), but the character is supposed to be in highschool and is like 17 years old. Pretty normal time to be figuring out you might not be straight.
I agree that Ben has kind of a seasoned vet vibe and probably isn't interested in a relationship right now. But I think it's pretty inevitable for these two to get together. The real question is how long they stay together before one of them gets killed or trapped in a prison dimension?

Right, but I would also keep in mind that there are always storylines that are put on the back burner each week. This past week it was the underworld story with Landon, Ric, and the necromancer. Unless the character you want to watch is Hope, don't expect to see them every episode

The next episode, which is 3 weeks from now btw, has the following description:
THE TRUE CURSE WE CARRY – Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) continues on her quest, with mixed results. Ben (guest star Zane Phillips) reveals more about his family and its history and Jed (Ben Levin) finds his feelings deepening. Cleo (Omono Okojie) is concerned about her recent changes. Meanwhile, the Salvatore School students comes together to celebrate one of their own. Also starring Danielle Rose Russell, Matthew Davis, Aria Shahghasemi, Quincy Fouse and Chris Lee. The episode was written by Brett Matthews & Kimberly Ndombe and directed by Trevor E.S. Juarez (#409). Original airdate 3/31/2022.

I don't know what to say about tonights episode without given anything away, but what happened with Ben I'm not sure what that means for his relationship with Jed. Like was Ben ever actually interested in Jed or was it all a means to get what he wanted from his father. Was Ben playing them all the whole time? It all just pissed me off. And Jed wasn't even in the episode! Did anyone even notice Ben was missing this whole time? I don't know what else to even say about it. I'm at a loss for words
