Another queer-inclusive adaptation from Netflix, arriving next month on the 14th. This one is a drama/murder mystery set in the high-pressure world of professional dancing at an elite ballet school in Chicago. (It's been described as Pretty Little Liars + Black Swan.) The principal characters are female but there does appear to be a gay subplot in the trailer. I believe the characters and actors are Shane (Brennan Clost) and Nabil (Michael Hsu Rosen). http://instagram.com/p/B7MXV1eHIkz http://instagram.com/p/B1RbLEUHqsf

So this came out today, and it surprised me on several levels.
I knew going in that it was a female-focused show, so the male characters (including the openly gay Shane, played by Brennan Clost) are secondary. But the gay content that is there, is pretty solid. Especially refreshing was the way they portrayed gay sex; there's a particularly sexy scene in episode 6 that I would say exceeds the straight sex scenes. They also take a modern approach to sexuality with one of the straight male characters indulging in gay sex more than once (including a scene where both guys are naked).
The show itself was decent. It did feel very familiar to anyone who's watched Dance Academy and teen thrillers like PLL or The Perfectionists. Given that I miss both shows, it definitely helped fill a gap. While the focus is largely on the females, they did give a couple of the male characters issue-based storylines (religion and body image) that are more commonly framed around girls in teen dramas, which was another thing I found refreshing. And did I mention all the eye candy? Practically every actor appeared naked at some point in the series.
Overall I was impressed and really hope Netflix do us a favour and renew this show for a second season. Frankly, they owe it to us after all the gay-inclusive content they cancelled this past year, including reversals of renewals that were already granted.

I agree about the hair colour but it was apparently his choice as well as the show's. I think it feeds into the character's story and also helps distinguish him from every other guy on the show (all dark-haired). Here's another interview with him where he talks about it. I really like him, this show and hope it gets more eyeballs so it can be renewed for another season. Not sure it will happen though as there doesn't seem to be a lot of interest when it's probably one of the most entertaining queer-inclusive teen dramas all year. www.digitalspy.com/tv/ustv/a34831402/tiny-pretty-things-season-2-shane-brennan-clost/

Watched it and better than I thought, but the whodunit mystery ended up being such a dud in the end.

My mom was watching it on TV so I joined her... and than the gay scenes happened. Thankfully she fast forwards every sex scene (hetero ones too) but still while watching it I was very triggered because it reminded me what happened this summer. Especially when Oren said "If you tell Bette about us, I will break your f*ing legs" "I see it Shane, I'm not an idiot." and "What you are are trying get from me, I can't be that for you." to Shane that pretty much the same lines I got too.
Also Shane kinda sexually harassed Oren, that also I did too while we were camping, that I regret and he also regrets. My friend and I got very close very quickly. My friend hates me now and I hate myself too because I ruined it. I wish he would have stopped me instead of cumming in my mouth and turning his back to me. It was a mistake and when I tried to talk to him about it he blamed everything on me. He said he was sleeping, he doesn't remember anything, I harassed him even tho I am sure he was awake as soon as I touched him. Long story short turns out he wasn't sleeping, even if he was he surely would have wake up before or after he erupts like a volcano. He blocked me from everywhere, him and his friends calls me "harasser" (it's kinda true I'm not gonna act like it's not and I apologized for giving him a blowjob), he threatened me saying he will break my bones if I tell anyone about it again (he learned that I told his best friend's sister who is my friend and she likes girls)
I'm from Turkey and his family (my family too) is very religious and he has many relatives that would kill him, and me too if they find out about it (especially his 3 big brothers) so I understand why he's so scared. Also he has a girlfriend that he doesn't want to break up. I don't know if he's gay, bi, or just curious and I don't care at this point. Ending isn't the same, Oren and Shane are still friends while him and I are like total strangers.
Anyway here is some fanvids that I liked a lot;

Agreed. While it is good that they didn't shy away from depicting gay sex compared to hetro sex, the relationship between Shane and Oren was very unhealthy. The only thing I am glad is that they didn't try to force the Shane/Oren thing in the end.

Agreed that Shane/Oren was an unhealthy relationship on both sides - Oren treating Shane as a dirty secret and Shane pressuring Oren to be something he's not - but as usual, there seems to be a significant fanbase shipping Shane/Oren. I really hope they won't go there if they get a second season. In fact, I would prefer it if they keep Oren straight. I know some are saying he must be a closet case, but I don't actually see that. He doesn't seem to be attracted to Shane at all, and just treats him as a sex partner who is always the one servicing him.

I'm actually okay with it being cancelled. That Shane/Oren relationship was unhealthy and the mystery was boring. There just wasn't too much compelling about it to get renewed

I kind of figured it was cancelled after such a long time passed since its premiere without any renewal announcement. It wasn't the best-scripted or -acted series, but it did fill a gap. No other English-language series was as bold in tackling sexuality among teens/young adults. And it's always nice to have an out actor (Brennan Clost) play a gay character. That sex scene was a scorcher. I'll miss the ballet sequences - sorely missing from television since Dance Academy ended a while back - and of course the eye candy from all the hot, frequently-naked guys. I see Michael Hsu Rosen on Pretty Smart but he doesn't even take his shirt off, and my thought is - what a waste! LOL.
