Toy Boy : A stripper sets out to prove his innocence for a crime he didn't commit and was unjustly incarcerated for seven years earlier. It's on Netflix, and here are more info about it : www.oprahmag.com/entertainment/tv-movies/a31404094/toy-boy-netflix/Andrea & Jairo : Jairo, played by Carlos CostanziaAndrea, played by Juanjo AlmeidaJairo is mute (google translation and basic dictionnaries only offered "dumb" as the translation, so I'm using mute, but I have no idea if that's the right word, he can not physically talk and uses Spanish sign language) It does make for some pretty scenes (or maybe that's just 'cause he's a stripper) I quickly binged through it (through as in i only caught Andrea or Jairo's scenes, and I understood the whole story and enjoyed it ! The murder story is quite the thriller, even if i started suspecting the right one half way through.

SPOILERS:
I absolutely HATED the gay storyline. It barely got any screentime and it was shockingly tame considering the show is about sex, drugs and prostitution. I felt that Andrea's mental issues were very convenient, he was hospitalized a bunch of times so they didn't have to actually show him in love or having sex. Heck, Jairo who was supposed to be a gay hustler was not once seen in an intimate position with a client. Also, a gay guy having mental issues... SERIOUSLY?! Why can't tv shows depict gays as just NORMAL guys, not murderers, rapists or mental headcases?

Why can't tv shows depict gays as just NORMAL guys, not murderers, rapists or mental headcases? My reply has spoilers too Keep in mind I did not find the show well written, as a whole, which lead me to drop it first, but when i discovered Jairo and Andrea were both gay as I thought they could be, I kept watching, skipping all the uninteresting parts (the straight ones oops). I kept wondering if Jairo and Andrea's story that lacked sex and kisses was because of double standard or because it's badly written or because it makes sense.
Andrea has mental heatlh issues because he was raped as a 10 year old boy, and the cover up lead to him being forced to lose his dad and live with his rapist. It doesn't have anything to do with being gay, and that is shown: he has issues with being touched but that's by everyone not just Jairo.
Jairo hates his hustling job, there are at least three scenes that show that. I do not particularly want to see gay sex where the hustler especially doesn't enjoy it, as it's too close to a rape to me. (I do support sex work and for it be legalised/protected, but the show also clearly shows he doesn't really have any other options (it's badly shown and he could have other options, but the character doesn't see it that way), so he is forced into the job, forced into having sex, it's way too close to rape to me)
Andrea hasn't moved on from the rape, and he's not stable mentally, Jairo is not enjoying sex in the least at the moment and as a stripper, his body is already sexualized and objectified on the daily, I do think it makes sense for them not to be having sex as soon as they get together.
As aware of the flaws of the show as I am, and as aware as I am of the tropes, double standard, basic homophobia in writing in general, i did enjoy their relationship because the lack of sex and kisses felt authentic and realistic to me. The touch that meant the most was holding hands, and that's pretty telling in terms of accepting (or not) touch and physical contact. (altho they did have him in the hospital way too often without it making any sort of sense. i put it down to me not keeping up with his mom's story but yeah, it's just not that well written, lacked a lot of coherence.
What i also liked was seeing Spanish sign language. I'm glad sign languages are being incorporated in stories, we need more representation of that. Not every story is meant for everyone, I'm sorry you lost time on their story.

I actually enjoyed this show, I also liked all of Andrea and Jairo's scenes. The story was decent even if you can easily figure out who the killer is very early on.

Yeah, their relationship was really dragged out and boring.
I thought it was interesting that they had the main character (who is straight?) make out with a guy and get blown by a guy (who on drugs) and make out with another guy on a separate occasion.

Add me to the club that found the gay relationship lacklustre.
I don't understand why they would be so tepid when the audience for this show is clearly NOT straight men - the only ones from that audience segment who'd watch this series would already be comfortable enough in their sexuality to accept a gay sex scene.
I also didn't appreciate that both gay guys faced issues of consent in their sexual history. One - okay. But both? That's just overkill. I felt we were back in the middle ages (by which I mean the '80s and '90s) when every gay character had to have some sad sack story of rejection, gay-bashing, and/or HIV.
Most incredibly - by which I mean bizarrely - how do you cast an actor as the lead stripper when he is practically the only one who isn't willing to get naked?

On the other hand they are the only couple on the show that really love each other and don't have hide interests. And the gay guy has mental issues because he was abused when he was a young kid.

It was renewed for a second season (maybe this time we'll get a decent gay storyline).
I didn't watched the whole first season so i don't know what happened, i know all the actors who played strippers are in the new season.
The renewal is not a surprise because after a so so ratings on antena 3 the show did very well on Netflix (and it's the second time after La casa de papel).
by the way, José de la Torre is on gossip magazines because some people think he is Pablo Alborán's boyfriend. I find quite curious the expeculation because the media rarely goes into speculation of the dating life of an out artist, but i suppose Pablo is simply too popular. I don't even know if José is out or even gay (but they are at least friends for a while).
By the way, i think it would be a good idea if webseries have its own board, there are a lot and sometimes is not that easy to find tv shows between so many webseries

I current watching Season1 and like the whole show a lot, because I mostly like murdermysteries and intrigues, the many hot shirtless guys, is a pluspoint, too. But I find the show had a lots of logic gaps.
Like what the strippers work, when Hugo was in jail. Why did they not work also as strippers? Only with Hugo?
Like is Jairo deaf, or had he no vocal courts. Normally deaf people could only hear the beat, the bass so they could dance to them, but for a conversation, they must read from the lips, but not Jairo? It looks like he could hear everything, so ? But also not a new technicial device, as helper, that he could hear. A bit not normal, unlogic, unrealistic. Or normally bad money collector, are normally not so dull, that they would destroy the client Ivan, debtor face or teeth, if they knew that he works, get money with his face. In this case mostly the money collectors would sell the debtors for sex, but here yeah the show is not so gay open minded.
Than what I think it is also unrealistic, unauthentic, what makes me normally laugh out loud. The Strip scenes and this ugly Speedos. In most cases good show, but the end, LOL, allways the same unsexy speedo, a very huge speedo for a Striper. Normally Strippers works with more than one underwear, mostly 2-3 items on top of each other. Ok, I could unterstand maybe that the actors and dont want to show this much, but come on, for a strip show it is lame. It gives a lot more of sexy underwear and especially a lot of different ones, not allways the same in different colors. Even if they cover the front part the same big size, it gives underwear with a smaller waistband, or in general a lot more skin on the side, why 3 or more inch of material on the side, it gives also underwear with metal rings or strings only at the site. Also the back part, I could understand a least half way, if the actors dont want show their asses, also that you could say, they all have good looking ones, why, not shown? So Ok, no classical G-String, like normal Stripper, but it gives also underwear that covers less than the whole bum, it gives underwear that covers 2/3, 1/2 or 1/3 of the ass, this would be at least more realistic, to show more skin, as to cover the whole bum. Come on a stripper. I think this speedos are so unsexy, that I must allways laugh, if I see them. Ok, for the shooting it could be better to use swimwear, because it covers more, like cockshapes, but this problem could also solved with socks or a inside lining or a underwear, G-String under the real shown underwear.
To the Gay Part: I find it good, that you really see the emotional part, the careing about Jairo and Andrea for eachother, there is a got job done, by the actors. Also that is not so oversexed, at first I could understand pretty much, also of the history of Andrea. But a bit more makeout, it dont must be sex, or even more french kisses, would it be make it so much better.
But in general, the bad site of the show, you see really the imbalance, a double measure/standart, comparing the intimity scenes between man and woman, but also woman and woman. I think Macarena had more and longer french kisses, or makeout scenes with women, than Jairo or Andrea with a Man. And that says unfortunately a lot of the show when it comes to gays. Even Hugo kisses a guy and makeout with a guy, but a second later, the camera switched to the offscreen. Also Jairo works as callboy, but the audience did not see any of this, or nearly a sign of it, like would it be so difficult to show Jairo after Sex, lying half naked with a naked man also half naked in a bed? When you this comparing to the Hugo scenes which had Sex with Macarena and Traina. Or also you see a lot of Tits, or Ass of Women, but not an Ass of a Man. So from the Gay site, I am a bit disappointed.
But the show itself is so untertainment good, that I like watching it. But not for the Gay part, or the equal treatment, the nakedness comparing Men and Women. You see nothing more, from a man then when you walk in the summer on a beach, at least back in the days, were speedos were IN.

I like the second Season, and the grow up of Andrea, his changes, it comes first a bit out of nowhere, like a shock moment to surprise, but I liked it, and the drama all around and at the End. Yes the gay content is again mostly offscreen, not even onscreen kisses, mostly in the next seconds the camera go off or in a other direction. It is really a shame. But the shirtless men and the great intrigue make a good apologize for the less gay content. Especially El Turco, Jesus Christ, 😋😍, the actor Alex Gonzalez, had a body to die for.
