I guess in both countries you can find both. People in NYC, San Francisco or LA are surely much more liberal then those from a small town in Arkansas or Texas. The same goes for Germany. Living in a small town in Bayern must be pretty hard too when you're gay. I grew up in a big town between Düsseldorf and Cologne in the 80s, so for us it was more or less normal to be gay, bi, transsexual or whatever. In the contrary, those were times when straight kids pretended to be gay because they thought it was cool. So honestly, I've never been in a gay bashing, but I know quite a few straight guys who have been bashed at night in a train because they were just at the wrong place at the wrong time. There'll always be kids in the street who are looking for fights and don't really need a reason to beat someone up. Another thing about where I'm living which friends from other parts of Germany have problems to understand: You can smoke dope without legal restrictions. We're so close to the dutch frontier that when I was young we went there every weekend to bye dope. It's not officially legal over here, but the cops only take your name if they catch you with less then 3 grammes (Often they don't even do that).

I know what happens based on the ard board but I'm not sharing. It kinda sounds like it's mostly Christian and Gregor.

I've never been in a gay bashing I was both physically and psychologically harassed all through high school. In my life, I have experienced the following: 1) Been attacked at work by a co-worker wielding a pitchfork and yelling anti-gay epithets while a supervisor watched and did nothing. Needless to say, I quit that job immediately. 2) Narrowly missed having my head split open by a full beer can flying at high speed - I literally felt the breeze as it went by my head. This was because I made the mistake of standing in front of a gay bar in Grand Rapids, Michigan with some friends to get some fresh air. 3)The same-sex partner of our church's treasurer was murdered - in broad daylight - most likely by a guy who was known to be harassing him. No witnesses would come forward and the police ruled his death 'accidental'. 4) A friend of mine was basically kidnapped, beaten so badly that he suffered permanent brain damage, and left for dead in a gravel pit - because he was gay. 5) Another friend of mine had to have all of his teeth capped after being beaten in the face - because he cruised someone while out walking who happened to be not only straight, but violently homophobic. 6) My best friend (a gay man) committed suicide. 7) I've been yelled at on the street for holding hands with my partner. Is my experience really that unusual?

I *think* I posted on a board of this type before and I think they have an option for creating invisible boards where you either need a password to get in or that is only open to certain groups? Just throwing that out as a option that maybe you could make the schwulundglücklich board guys only, if it feels uncomfortable to post about such private things where straight women soapfans might be lurking. As a female fan I wouldn't mind, because I understand that it's a private matter. Just throwing it out there as an option.

Sorry for going off topic - I just really don't get this perception that the vast majority of America would have no problem with seeing more same-sex affection on-screen. I wish it were so, but I guess we'll just have to disagree on that point. Feel free to remove my posts if you think they might derail the thread - I won't get offended.

The subtitled video on YouTube:
Thanks to Ivan for the video and to Tihkon for his help with my American.
This video is dedicated to the awesomeness of my boyfriend who was cool with my subtitling this instead of spending a romantic evening with me as I had promised him previously.

Yesterday's interview with Jo and Thore on sendspace: www.sendspace.com/file/113dirAs it's 30 minutes long the file size is 147 MB, even thought it has a rather small screen size. Tihkon is going to put it up on YouTube. Maybe you will want to wait for that. I could offer you a HQ version as well, but that would be 240 MB.

Bwahahahah, that shot of a smiling Olli in Coco's mind was both scary and hilarious ;D
Wait, that's not a maple leaf on Olli's jacket? Or if *Olli* a Canada fan just like Jo? ;D
