There can be downsides to it though. I can't speak for Germany, but I've had American guests be very, very traumatized by Austria. There were sort of white bread Southern Baptists from Tennessee and they stayed for a month. They were really traumatized by the whole "OMG, nobody smiles at you on the train, nobody strikes up a conversation with you, when you talk to a stranger they look at you like you have a disease or something".
Though then again Austrians are kind of known to be very rude (I always joke that you may not talk to an Austrian person unless (a) you have been formally introduced by a shared acquantance (b) you have business dealings with them (c) you first carefully communicate that you are on exactly the same socio-economic level before you ask them for the time; which of course isn't really true like that, but sometimes it feel pretty close to the situation), so it's possible that it's not that unpleasant in Germany.
(fun story, I have a neighbor who is German and after years in the country is still traumatized that on the escalators people don't follow the "Please stand on the right side" sign)

I think we are all just eager, build up of anticipation, excitement - I don't think anyone is 'foot tapping'. Not sure a roll of the eyes was particularly necessary really!

Can someone please send a tape of today's ep to P&G, CBS and the writers of ATWT. That's exactly how a couple who's in love acts with each other, the touching and kissing whenever you're together, the not being able to keep away from the other even when there's the danger of being caught in the act.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this ep.

Indeed, this is how young couples in love behave! The need to touch each other every chance they get, the casual kisses, the playfulness. As contrasted to the "Don't touch me, there might be an ICE agent (or your little sisters, or your grandma, or my wife...) hiding just outside the door!" Of course, Germans (and most Western Europeans for that matter) are considerably more sophisticated than a lot of Americans. This much same-sex affection is beyond even Brothers & Sisters with it's 10:00pm time slot.

I'm not sure if it wouldn't be the same in Germany if we didn't have the european inequality law. It's just not allowed in Western Europe for an association to organize protests against gay kissing on tv. And even single persons have to be careful with what they're saying because they could get sued for inaproppriate comments. I guess that's why the church in Germany cannot do much either because let's face it: german catholics aren't any more tolerant then the AFA.

I agree, I always feel a bit uncomfortable when people joke "Where do I get my ticket/I need to move there". Because Germany isn't exactly hearts and flowers all the time and there are just as many assholes as everywhere (sometimes I think more). Not to mention that there are other types of downsides. There are a lot of things that you take for granted in the US that don't exist in Germany. So one shouldn't mistake Germany for some kind of promised land either.
