Nice to see they didn't shy from showing a kiss at least. Guess we will soon see in a few more days I think it's clear we'll see a lot more than a kiss. I just hope they can sustain it throughout the season and not just use it to lure us in but then leave us high and dry.

Ratings for the premiere were dreadful I hear - doubt they will get another season.
Shame because I actually thought it had promise - particularly the portrayal of gay relationships - despite killing off the most interesting character in the first hour.

I really like this show, and not just the gay storyline either. The show is quite good. I just hope it doesn't get cancelled.

I can't believe it took me this long to place where I'd seen the actor playing Nolan before - Chris Mason played a gay footballer in Wonderkid a few years ago.

I'm just going to use this thread to approach this topic since Original Sin is another spin-off in the PLL franchise. It's penned by openly gay showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. If you're thinking that's a positive, think again - he's also the same guy behind Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, both of which have treated their queer male regulars terribly. PLL: Original Sin is no different, except this time the gay regular is an older guy in his 40s, played by Eric Johnson (a favourite of mine). The pilot establishes that his character, Sheriff Tommy Beasley, is not a good guy. He's controlling/verging on abusive towards his wife and daughters, and he misuses his authority as community service supervisor to get young male felons to give him sexual favors. That was already depressing, but wait - it gets steadily worse. Spoilers for the ending: It's revealed that, as a high school senior, Tommy Beasley raped Angela Waters in an effort to "prove himself" - which contributed to her suicide later that year. His wife was aware of rumors about his homosexuality but turned a blind eye to it and married him anyway. When his daughter's friend calls him out on his abusive behavior and threatens to out him, he decides to kill his whole family and commit suicide. His wife stops him by stabbing him. He survives the stabbing but is ultimately gutted in his hospital bed by Angela's brother. So don't expect him to return if the show is renewed for a second season (it seems like a slim chance) but who would want this kind of representation anyway? The Perfectionists did so much better. The gay guy was perfectly integrated into the core cast, and there was another sexually fluid male regular. It's a shame to see this regression, especially when Roberto talked up how queer horror is in all the press for this show.

For some reason I can't click on the spoiler. Any solution to that? Not a real solution but a workaround, you can right click the spoiler and press inspection then expand the spoiler to read

kellerbrady, not sure what's wrong there, you can try Yuan's workaround or try highlighting the text below: It's revealed that, as a high school senior, Tommy Beasley raped Angela Waters in an effort to "prove himself" - which contributed to her suicide later that year. His wife was aware of rumors about his homosexuality but turned a blind eye to it and married him anyway.
