Well this is the CW so my expectations are quite low for this.

I don't understand why the CW insist in having gay characters in their shows when everybody knows they will be just token characters with very little screen time. We are not in the 90's anymore, if you put a gay character in your show better use him or just do a totally straighs show (if it's good people will watch it anyway)

It looks like the Gay character will at least be part of the main cast and one of the Aliens so maybe the show will do better

well, the only show where CW has actually handled gay characters well so far, was Legends of tomorrow, I mean right now they have two (or four if you want to include Ava and Gary) main characters that are LGBT, so I think they're starting to doing better.

Constantine is awesome. I wish we had more shows like Legends

So from what I read it is suppose to be Michael and Alex played by Michael Vlamis and Tyler Blackburn who were both straight in the original. I loved the original so it seems a little weird for it to be those two.

Alex was the character that had A crush on Isabel in the Original and Micheal was the third Alien Didn't Alex and Isabel date? Or start to date, then he died? My understanding is that killed him off because Colin Hanks wanted to focus on his movie career, so I doubt the remake will take this route. Michael had that whole on and off thing with Maria. I thought they had more chemistry than Max and Liz did. Curious to see what they're going to do with the show. Not too optimistic, but I will go in with an open mind. I found this article that (if true) basically summarizes the pilot season-zero.com/roswell-the-cw-pilot-preview/If this is true, I think it would make it quite difficult to have gay characters be tokenized. Very central characters and not at all a Riverdale Kevin situation. Found this review of the show, which premiered at NY comic con. I don't think it's spoilery.

I loved the original show. And it was allways nice to look at Jason Behrs Body, with all his shirtless scenes.
Alex was in the original show a side role, no main role. I think the show has 4 really main roles, and this was the human Liz and the aliens Max, Isabell and Michael. It gives a lot of love crushes and relationships, like in a soap, and mostly a bit with opposites attracted.
Kyle is mostly allways in love with his Ex Liz and very jealous, but she was in love with Alien Max. Maria was in love with Michael, both had an relationship, but from my view, Michael was in the reality not in love with her, he was allways pretty indifferent, Michael had no real fellings, a bit like a robbot only anger and misunderstood, in future we learn why, the character was so. Alex and Isabell was more a backround couple and only a short time.
In the forlast season I think came Tess, and makes a lot of questions, but bring also a lot of answers. For example that the aliens are here, like by Superman, to controll, to conquer the planet earth, the humans. And it gives total of 6 Aliens. And The aliens had a destiny, a purpose, they have a background from were they came. Max the prince or king and his grilfriend or wife Tess. His sister Isabel the second in the hierarchy with her man the armorer Michael, the boss of the military. And 2 other very important Aliens that sleeps in their alienlifesafecontainer till the time is coming, when they are awaking. But the show got canceled before.
And the Aliens beginns to bow to their destiny, mostly not amused, but with Tess, they do. But all dont want, that their life plan, what was written, come true, only Tess wants this life what is planed for them.
Micheal could be an interresting character, with the conflict between destiny and his soul wishes. But I would dont set my hopes much. Because Michael could also be portayed as someone with not much good feelings, and not much interrest in love or relationships, like in the orginal show. Max was allways a lot more a person who walkes and shine his fellings with pride, for everyone to see.

It looks like they're keeping the characterization of Michael from the original series.
I'm intrigued by the decision to make him bisexual. After years of bisexual men being ignored on TV, we suddenly have two shows premiering in the same month which feature male bisexual main characters (Gael on Good Trouble being the other). It would've been good if his male love interest was part of the main cast too but I guess we should be glad for baby steps, especially considering the CW's piss-poor track record when it comes to portraying queer males.
ETA: Trevor St John is playing Tyler Blackburn's dad?! They're only 15 years apart in age.
