I'm a little surprised to be honest, I thought the show was faltering after a very lacklustre season 6 so Netflix would wait to see how season 7 performs with Omar's return and the infusion of new cast members before they commissioned season 8. I guess the numbers must still be strong for them to renew it in advance of the debut.

I guess the numbers must still be strong for them to renew it in advance of the debut. It could also be, because of the Strike in America, that Europe Productions gain again, at all, in all kinds. The Streamers must show something, to their Subscribers. Content from America could be long time waiting.

Strangely their trailer is not ready with just one week to go, so instead they shared this clip of Ivan reflecting on the end of his relationship with Patrick. https://www.instagram.com/p/CyVnj1aIH7m

Very late trailer with just 3 days to go, but there does look to be some good gay content, including - to my surprise - for Ivan.

Just finished the new season. I liked it. I have seen some people say it was boring. I admit not much happened, it wasn't "exciting", even the gay storyline wasn't that interesting per se. I still liked the gay storyline a lot though, it was fluffy and cute and romantic. I have seen so many gay storylines lately that have been depressing and sad. I really needed this. Especially the gay sex scenes Wouldn't be Elite without sex scenes! I'd give this season a 6/10. Much better than season 6 (which was horrible), but not better than season 5, which is still my favorite season since season 2. I'd rank the seasons like this: season 1: 8/10, season 2: 6/10, season 3: 4/10, season 4: 6/10, season 5: 8/10, season 6: 4/10, season 7: 6/10. I mostly rate them based on how much I like the gay storyline, lol.

The gay content was pretty solid this season - although I think they missed a trick not working in a threesome - but it was let down by the central mystery which was barely existent and had zero stakes. Even last season, where the mystery (and everything else) left a lot to be desired, there was some level of investment because it was a character we cared about who was fighting for his life: Ivan. That was totally missing this season, and I do think it hurt the show because the mystery element is pretty key to what Elite is about - not just sex and nudity! But yes, in those terms the show hit a high not seen since season 1, if you ask me. (I would say it's better than season 5.)
Now let's just hope they can keep up the improvements as we go into the final season, so the show can go out on a high. Eight seasons is a very good run for a Netflix show.
