From what I have read online about the books, Walt was the closeted gay character in the series. Brendan Dooling will play him in the CW's adaptation of the books. The Carrie Diaries are the prequels to Sex and the City. It will start airing next week on Jan. 14th. Here is an interview with Brendan. To me it sounds like his storyline may end up as a coming out storyline, but I haven't really seen any confirmation of this -- all of the references to him as being gay seem to be derived from the deadline article below (and the deadline article doesn't sound very sure). So this might just be idle speculation -- regardless he is quite easy on the eyes. Deadline describes his character as: Before Stanford, Carrie Bradshaw had Walt in her life. Brendan Dooling has been cast in the CW pilot Carrie Diaries. The project, based on Candace Bushnell’s novel, chronicles Carrie Bradshaw’s (AnnaSophia Robb) coming of age in the 1980s when she asks her first questions about love, sex, friendship and family while exploring the worlds of high school and Manhattan. Dooling will play Carrie’s best guy friend who is most likely gay but doesn’t know it yet as it isn’t an easy thing to come to terms with in the mid-1980s. Also cast in the pilot is Freema Agyeman as Larissa, Carrie’s mentor, a hip, cutting-edge editor/party girl who works at Interview magazine. I liked the first episode a lot. It wasn't perfect, but it was sweet, and showed potential. I think the gay storyline looks very interesting too!
ETA: I just read that the ratings were bad. I have a feeling this show will be canceled. It sucks, because I was really getting into the show, but oh well..

I actually enjoyed the show but that doesn't mean anything. When i like them i tend to lose them which sucks. I hope it doesn't happen this time.

To be honest, I thought I wouldn't like this show because I'm not a fan of Sex & the City, but the show has proven me wrong. I'm hoping that the show won't get dropped.

The only issue I have with the show is that the gay storyline is not progressing fast enough. Brendan Dooling said they were filming episode 8, and Walt had just started to show signs that he's gay. This means the show will be on for two months before the gay storyline even starts. It's too slow. They should have had the gay storyline front and center from the start. Maybe then it would have been more exciting to watch, and wouldn't be suffering the awful ratings it is right now. Just my opinion.

People keep saying that it will be cancelled, because the ratings are still not good enough, despite the fact that they went up this week.

I hope Beckett returns, it would be good for Walt when he coming into understanding his sexuality to have someone who could help him understand it. I'm sure Beckett knows what Walt is going through.
Well Walt is WASP as he said, he's just starting to realize he has romantic desires for men. He's a teenage boy who scared of what this all means and also factoring in Mags. So I can see this storyline being slow or slowish.

It looks like they're making Bennet out to be Walt's boyfriend. Here's the pic: Us at our latest table read for episode 11 of #TheCarrieDiaries. Crazy how fast time flies! pic.twitter.com/ZQZa2XiK
