Finally watched Punch. I'll give it 4/10. It sadly wasn't very good.
SPOILERS:
Ugh, what a letdown. I was so looking forward to this movie. It wasn't what I was expecting. It was more about the boxer's joruney to self acceptance than it was a gay love story. The main story was all over the place, it felt disjointed. It was weird. The love story got very little screen time. And no, it didn't have a happy ending. It wasn't a bad ending either though, it was more sorta open ended, but the guys didn't end up together, which sucked. And what the fuck was that sex scene all about? Talk about weird directing. You couldn't see shit. One of many weird directing choices during this movie. It could have been so much better if they tightened up the story about imo.

And then it just ends... no resolution.

Watched Eismayer. Great movie but the ending felt a bit rushed. I wish we could see a bit more of their life as a couple and the movie should have ended with their wedding.

100 new gay movies to look forward to this year. (Some of them have already been released in the last 6 months, and there are also a few that may not be released within 2023.)

Stranizza D'Amuri - English title Fireworks, although a literal translation would be Strangeness of Love - is an Italian movie, inspired by a tragic true story, portrays two teenage boys who fall in love amidst the violent homophobia and toxic masculinity of early 1980s' Sicily. in the true story, the lovers both die at the end in mysterious circumstances, but their killings apparently led to a big change in public opinion about homosexuality and the birth of new gay/lesbian rights organizations. Apparently it's a big deal that one of the teens is played by a reality TV dance contestant, Samuele Segreto. http://instagram.com/p/CrK07_opQrO

With all these disappointing af tv shows, at least we have some upcoming gay movies that should be good. Which ones are you particularly looking forward to? TBH I'm not too enthused about some of them, and many of those already released have been disappointments too. The writers' strike has already screwed up the TV slate, I wonder how many of the films not produced yet may also be affected. Hopefully nothing gets canned completely if it hasn't started production yet - that's always a risk in this environment.

Not the usual gay love story, Te estoy amando locamente takes place in Seville in 1977, during a turbulent time in Spanish history immediately following the Franco regime, before homosexuality was decriminalized. Reme, a traditional mother, is moved by the love of her son - a teenage aspiring artist - to become involved in the Andalusian LGBTQIA movement. Ana Wagener and Omar Banana (that surname!) star as the mother and son at the centre of the tale. In Spanish cinemas from July 7th.

Trailer finally out for the big-screen adaptation of Benjamin Alire Sáenz's gay coming-of-age novel, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, in cinemas September 8th.
Hopefully it does well enough to command an adaptation of the sequel, too.

So... the weather is bad and I have summer vacation. I was bored so I watched a few movies.
SPOILER WARNING.
Norwegian Dream: ok/average movie. Realistic. The actors had amazing chemistry. It wasn't really a love story, it was more about dreams and horrible working conditions and how hard life can be for immigrants in Norway. All of that happened while they were trying to find themselves. I liked the gay black representation but I hated the ending. I'd give it 5/10.
Golden Delicious: I have been wanting to see this movie for so long. Was slightly disappointed by it. Once again I feel like it wasn't really a love story. The love story didn't get enough screen time. I felt the main character's family got too much screen time. It also annoyed me how the straight sex scenes were more explicit than rhe gay onces. The movie was lifted by great acting and the chemistry between the main characters. I also want to say the little we got of the love story was very cute, if not a bit cliched. It wasn't anything new or geoundbreaking. It was a very typical coming out movie. I liked the ending though. Finally a movie with a happy ending. Good to see some Chinese representation too. I'll give it 6/10.
Big Boys: this was the movie I thought I would like the least, but actually ended up liking the most. It's not a love story, but it was sweet, cute and funny. I was also happy to see some representation of "bigger guys". Most gay movies tend to be about fit white guys. I found the main character very relatable and endearing. I'll give it 8/10.

Another gay movie to keep on our radar, Scraps, which just wrapped production and bills itself as the first LGBTQ+ skater film ... in Montana. It was shot on location and stars Peder Lindell and Dorian Giordano as the central couple. POC representation in LGBTQ+ film and TV has been improving of late but it's still rare to see someone from the Native American community so Giordano's casting is nice, especially considering the setting. https://www.instagram.com/p/CumwX3wxCIG

I finally watched The Mattachine Family. I loved it! It was a movie about friendships and love. It was raw, emotional, funny, real. 'I laughed and I cried. It even had some (short) gay sex scenes. This is not a movie for those of you who want a romantic and perfect gay love story. What makes this movie great is that the characters are human, they are imperfect, they make mistakes, and yes, even argue. I liked it a lot. I also give this movie credit for casting actual bi/gay people in the gay roles. I'd definitely recommend it. The one thing that stops me from giving it an 8 is that the main gay love story sadly got too little screen time, but the little it got was good. Anyways, it gets a 6/10 from me.

Got the chance to watch Stranizza D'Amuri yesterday and I loved it! It was kind of hard to watch at times, as the film gives you some kicks in the stomach, but at the same time bringing a delicate touch of innocence that was far more meaningful to me. Overall, a very sad but moving film (buy your Kleenex! Lol). First-time director Giuseppe Fiorello does a great job here as well as the whole cast, but the chemistry between the main actors Gabriele Pizzuru and Samuele Segreto deserves a special notice.

Not sure if this might have been mentioned elsewhere already, but here's the new trailer for 'Dicks: The Musical' starring comedians Josh Sharp and Aaron Jackson as long lost twins, and Nathan Lane and Megan Mullally as their parents:
* NSFW due to an abundance of swearing!
‘Dicks: The Musical’ is based on Jackson and Sharp’s stage show ‘Fucking Identical Twins’ and is described as 'two self-obsessed businessmen discover they are long-lost identical twins and come together to plot the reunion of their eccentric divorced parents, in this riotously funny and depraved musical from comedy icon Larry Charles (Seinfeld, Borat). It also stars Bowen Yang as God.'
The 18+ rated comedy musical will make its world premiere at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and is set to be released in the US on 29th September.

I've seen three movies lately, Notes of Autumn, Cassandro and Down Low. My reviews includes spoilers. Just so you are warned. Notes of Autumn: Typical Hallmark movie, plot is weak and basically a trope. But I appreciate the fact that they make stupid romantic comedies with gay plots too. The gay storyline was cute enough, but very by the books. It also didn't get a lot of screen time. I like Luke Macfarlane though, and think he did a good job with his role. I think he had good chemistry with Peter Porte too. The movie itself was only decent, the straight storyline was ok but kinda boring. I'll give this movie 4/10.Down Low: I liked this movie. Plot was decent, it's been done before, but it was done fairly well for a comedy/thriller. I liked the fact that it basically celebrated being gay and it was an homage to gay culture. I also have to say that Gage and Quinto had excellent chemistry. Their chemistry lifted the movie from a 4 to a 6 for me, because it wasn't perfect. A cancer stricken gay man wanting to live out the life he couldn't while married, before he dies? Meh... not a riveting plot, kinda depressing, and once again made around the "bury your gays" trope. But like I said, the main characters had great chemistry, it was funny and the gay culture homage was good. Oh yeah, it had a decent sex scene too (though I wonder why Gage was the top, I picture him as the bottom). It's interesting that Gage co-wrote this movie. Anyway, it was a fairly decent movie. I'll give it 6/10. Well worth the watch imo. Cassandro: Great movie. Gael is such a great actor. I really hope he gets an award for this movie, because he deserves it. He was THAT good. The movie itself was very well made. Be aware though, that this isn't a gay love story. It's about the career of Cassandro. That is the main plot of the movie. It is also slightly sad/depressing (because he didn't have an easy life). It does includes a relationship too, but if you watch for the relationship only you will be disappointed (said relationship doesn't get a lot of screen time, not a happy ending either). The movie was very good and I recommend it. I'll give it 8/10.
