Here's the latest news on Skins from the digitalspy forum (The current cast will be AXED!):
The rumours are true. The entire Skins cast has been axed in favour of younger models (oh, what a cruel and fickle world this is, etc. etc.). This means that next week's episode - Monday, 10pm, E4 - will be the last we see of Tony, Michelle, Sid et al. Boo! It's also the last we'll see of Cassie. Hurrah! But why have the gang been ditched? What can we expect from the new breed? And WHY was Chris killed off? Skins co-creator Jamie Brittain tells all.
What can viewers expect from the final episode? "It's all about goodbyes. It's about saying goodbye to your friends and the things you're going to leave behind. It's sort of a poem about the end of teenage life. It's a very pretty and beautiful episode."
But it's also a sad episode. What made you decide to kill off Chris? "It seemed like it was the right thing to do. It was a very sad thing to do, and obviously for the actor it's very difficult, but we show teenage life in its good parts and bad parts. Friends do die, horrible things do happen to teenagers, and how they cope with that is really interesting. We wanted to introduce that element into the show to give it some realism."
It's been a much darker series in general though, hasn't it? "Personally, I much preferred the second series to the first. I think it's much more sophisticated and complex. Some of the fans have said they don't like the dark side, although generally the reaction has been quite positive. The cast do come out the other side and there is still fun stuff in there. And it's funny! We try not to make it too dark."
Why did you decide to get rid of the entire cast? "I think the decision was made when the show first began, really. It just seemed like the logical thing to do. The show is about kids aged 16 to 18 and the time they spend at college. It was kind of natural that we were going to change the cast round every two years, because it's those two years that we really focus on. We didn't really want to do a show where they all go off to university. The show's very much about teenage life and not university life."
Did the cast always know they had a limited lifespan? "I'm not sure if they were aware of it from the start, but most of them were on two-year contracts, so they knew they were going to be there for two years for sure and beyond that was unsure. We told them as soon as we'd really decided, because we didn't know that we were going to get a second series or how certain things were going to go down. We told them around about when series two was commissioned. They were sad, but you know, it's all very exciting for them because they get to go off and do different stuff. They're all getting exciting new parts."
There have been rumours that the new series will focus on Effy and her gang, and the final scene of this series would seem to support that. Is it true? "Obviously I don't want to reveal too much, but Effy definitely will be in series three. I don't want to say she'll be the focus or the main character, because we don't really do that, but she'll definitely be in series three and will be heavily featured, yes."
Effy has an obvious link with Tony, so does that mean the current cast could make guest appearances? "I think it's possible, but I don't know how possible. These young guys want to move on and do different stuff and I'm not sure they'll want to be tied down to Skins. Also we're about telling stories about the individual characters. Just thinking about it, I don't know how much it would bring to these [new] characters to have Anwar or Cassie just suddenly turn up. I just can't quite see what the benefit of that would be, other than for them to say 'hi'. We haven't ruled it out but I think it's unlikely."
How's production on the new series coming along? "Well we haven't actually been commissioned yet, as far as I know. But if we are then we'll have to begin filming in 13 weeks from now, so we've already started working on it. At the moment I'm writing episode two of the new series, which is based on a male character. It's very exciting, it's a good, fun episode."
How different will the new cast be? Will it be just new actors playing similar characters? "Yeah, it will be quite different. Obviously people will see some similarities and that's unfortunate, but we're trying really hard to have a new, fresh, different group of people who are apart from the first lot of characters. So we've got a villainous character this time, which I'm really excited about. He's a real nasty piece of work - whilst Tony was almost the villain in the first series, now we've got this crazy, nasty character who's really good fun to write for. There's loads of interesting characters: there are going to be twins, I can say that, and also a character from Eastern Europe."
And how are the auditions going? "We've got a website, skinslife.com, and it's all being run from there. We had an open audition in Bristol last month, which about 1500 people turned up to, and there's going to be another one in London later this month. We're giving everyone who wants to come along the chance."

harmonium, I will be sad cause I really like Jal. Maxxie is cool and Tony is fascinating. I will try out the new class for S3 but I am not really impressed with Effy.

It's quite unusual, normally they would want to benefit from the fact that people know and love the characters, but I understand they want to start again. I wonder if we saw the new characters already, apart from Effie, or if we'll see them tomorrow.

Yeah on one hand I admire them, remembering all those high school schools from BH90210 to Buffy and Smallville where they either tried to contort to stay in high school longer or had a lot of trouble transitioning to college. It just more natural/slice of life to do it like Skins. On the other hand, yes, it seems strange and we do care about these characters and are curious where they are going.
It will be interesting how and whether that works in regards to ratings and the like.

I watched the season finale last night and I have to say that.......
I loved it.
Yes, I certain things about how Tony could afford a one-way ticket for Sid's flight to NYC, in order to find Cassie. I wonder how Cassie could afford to stay in NYC on a waitress job (Where in the hell is she living? Why haven't her parents tried to track her down?) AND how did Sid end up AT Grand Central Station?
Other than those things, I loved the ending.
Anwar's heading to London, with Maxxie and his boyfriend for a bit (while the stalker Sketch is yet again alone with herself). I can understand why she tried to make Anwar think that his friends would forget about him, because as you get older and grow apart, friendships tend to drift away, but I truly think that wouldn't be the case between him and Maxxie. Or any of the others. Seeing how torn Tony was in saying goodbye to Sid, just made me remember how close they were in the past. When he told Sid that "he loved him the best", he meant it.
Tony and Michelle have officially called it quits (which was about time). Even though they said that "it was good" for them, maybe it was in the beginning, but for the past two seasons, it seems like they each were going through the motions of being TONYANDMICHELLE, the couple that everyone else supposedly wanted to be. Tony took her for granted, while Michelle allowed him to use her, because she didn't want to be alone. It makes sense now, as to why she allowed those things to happen, because of her her own mother deals with her need of having a man in her life (regardless if they're a match or not).
I also think that in this season, both characters grew as individuals, much more than if they had stayed together as a couple. Michelle was finally able to be a true friend to Jalinda, especially during the aftermath of Chris' (sigh) death.
Chris and Jal - Who knew that I would end up loving them as a couple. Chris, the kid that is always high and never being able to follow through on goals in his life, falls madly in love with Jal, who also returns his feelings. Jal, the one person out of everyone in the group that has a clear direction in what she wants to do in her life. She's the one that makes him take stock of his life, even though she (along with everyone else that matters to Chris) had no idea that his future wouldn't come to pass. I'm glad that the writers followed through with having Jal have the abortion. It just wasn't the right time for her to bring a child (that wasn't wanted) into the world.
I think TPTB have the right idea in starting "fresh" with a whole new group of kids for the next season, including Tony's little sister as the center of the new group. I hate "teen shows" that have their "teens" ending up hanging around each other for YEARS after they've graduated from college (or extend a year in high school in order to keep them on the show). Yes, I'm referring to Beverly Hills, 90210. Hopefully, the cast/actors/actresses that they do get for season 3 will be as wonderful and perfect as Mitch, April, Mike, Larissa, Dev, Joseph, Hannah and Nicholas.

Here's a little scoop:
Nicholas Hoult (Tony) did a short interview with Holy Moly on the BAFTA red carpet and confesses the painful abuse he suffered at the hands of his Skins co-star, and sometime lover Joe Dempsie (Chris). Apparently they have dated for 4 months. Interesting. But I'm wondering if it's the truth.
Here's the youtube link:

When the series started I was hoping the episodes would be more Maxxie-centric after the last year Tony being the natural leader, but they went for character centric episodes where most of the rest were almost ignored. I liked how Maxxie cared for Tony in an unconditional way unlike Michelle.

As minisodes? Or will BBC America FINALLY show some balls, program all episodes after 11 PM and show us the unedited stuff? Otherwise, I can't imagine that much would remain of SKINS. That they bought it, though, speaks highly of one of my favorite channels.
