whoo: that all sounds so weird, sheepie! Aaron was never in high spirits, even when they were going out pre-accident. And beds appearing, too, and Aaron insisting on physical intimacy. Not sure I can handle this

Bedtime stories Aaron asks to spend the night with Jackson – will he agree?
Aaron and Jackson’s on/off relationship suffers another setback when the mechanic tries (and fails) to get closer to his disabled partner again. Will things ever work out for the doomed duo? Since finally admitting his feelings for Jackson and getting their romance back on track, Aaron’s been walking round with a massive smile on his face. Despite reservations from Jackson’s dad, Jerry, about their pairing, it seems wheelchair bound Mr Walsh is starting to put his awful accident behind him and look to the future. Aaron is desperate to reclaim some intimacy with his fella, but his request to stay the night is met by a frosty response from Jackson, who says it isn’t a great idea. (It was worth a try!).Refusing to give up, the loving Livesy collects Jackson the next day and takes him to Smithy Cottage, where he’s laid a bed out in the living room (very subtle) for the occasion. Embarrassed by the awkward situation, jittery Jackson panics and insists he wants to go home at once. But adamant Aaron isn’t backing down, and gently reassures his boyfriend he just wants them to spend the night in the same bed. Softened by the heartfelt words, Jackson reluctantly agrees, but his worried face tells another story entirely….. Sadly, instead of healing old wounds, the boy’s sleepover has the opposite effect and Aaron’s miffed when Jackson doesn’t come to see him the next day. Sleeping bag in hand, Aaron goes over to Dale Head, but arrives just as Jackson is making his regular video diary. As he hears Jackson moan about his lack of personal space, the penny finally drops for Aaron and he realises he may have overstepped the mark. Feeling like an outsider in his own relationship, angry Aaron kicks himself for attempting to rush Jackson. But are Jackson’s frustrations actually masking a deeper and darker secret?

When Aaron insists he's done nothing wrong, Hazel worries that Jackson may have had a change of heart.
Tues 15 Mar Elsewhere, Aaron senses that he's being frozen out when Jackson seems reluctant for him to stay over

Later, Chas approaches Jackson and airs her concerns. Jackson explains that he's only letting Aaron see how hard their future will be, but Chas brands him selfish - saying that he's giving Aaron nothing back and waiting for the relationship to fail. Hazel and Jackson are thrown by her outburst.
Thur 17 Mar Aaron is annoyed to learn that Chas has been interfering and is put out when he gets an unenthusiastic welcome from Hazel and Jackson. Aaron tells Jackson that he's talking to his camera too often and should be confiding in him instead.
Later, as Hazel, Jerry and Jackson head off to a hospital appointment in the ambulance, Aaron lets himself into Dale Head and finds the laptop. Aaron watches as Jackson opens up about his true feelings and he's shocked to the core to hear Jackson say he wants to die…
8pm In The Woolpack, Aaron tells Hazel that he's seen the diary. She snaps at him for prying but he urges her to listen. Hazel refuses to discuss this, but Aaron begs her to at least watch the diaries herself and she reluctantly agrees.

Soap mag stuff
Death Wish Aaron and Hazel discover the depths of Jackson’s despair……
When Jackson turns frosty towards him, Aaron tries to find out what his boyfriend is thinking by taking a sneaky peek at his video diary. But he gets more than he bargained for when he sees Jackson revealing that he wants to die. “It’s a shocking confession” says Danny Miller, who plays the loyal teenager “Jackson is saying how he feels trapped in a body that’s broken, Aaron finds it hard, he hasn’t ever experienced this with a friend, let alone a boyfriend. He wants to get to the bottom of it and find out why Jackson wants to die and how he plans to do it” In the pub, Aaron tells Hazel that he’s seen her disabled son’s diary, but she has a go at him, saying it’s none of his business. He begs her to have a look for himself and, when she does, she’s equally horrified. Hazel’s response is to become more determined to show Jackson that life is worth living, and she starts by encouraging Bob to ask for her son’s advice on the plans for the café. But Jackson remains in a black mood and is particularly frustrated about being unable to hold his little stepbrother, Josh. Aaron thinks they should confront Jackson and urges Hazel to talk to him, but she insists they’ll find another way. Can she & Aaron reach him before its too late?

From one of the Soap mags...
Aaron’s shock confession He admits that he’s watched Jackson’s video diary
Jackson Walsh is distraught this week, as his Mum Hazel and boyfriend Aaron tell him they’ve seen the private video diary in which he talks about his wish to die. The confession comes after another difficult week for them all, as increasingly depressed Jackson is asked to be godfather to his new half-brother, Josh. After refusing because he believes his dad, Jerry, is offering out of pity, Jackson agrees to take on the role after a tongue-lashing from Hazel makes him reconsider his position. But as the day of the christening dawns, this lad has another change of heart – sparking off a big row with his loved ones. For desperate Aaron, his partner’s misery is too much, and he explodes at Jackson – before pulling him out of bed to take him to the church. The shock of what he’s done stuns both Aaron and Jackson. And in the midst of the fallout, Aaron breaks down and admits that he and Hazel watched the diary – which is why they’re so worried about Jackson’s deteriorating mental state. With his most personal thoughts exposed and the burden of putting on a brave face becoming too much to bear, Jackson sinks into a deeper pit of despair. Will he ever find a way to get back his zest for life?

Only a mild spoiler, DS talked to the new producer, and most of the article is about Aaron and Jackson: www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s12/emmerdale/interviews/a309411/steve-november-executive-producer-emmerdale.htmlThings have been quite bleak for the Aaron and Jackson fans lately, so is there anything they can look forward to - perhaps some more heartwarming scenes? "There is, yes - there's a long way to go. Obviously way before Aaron met Jackson, he was a bleak character and a very troubled teenager - which is probably why he's very popular, because just about all of us remember being troubled teenagers and trying to get on in life with all of the problems that it throws at you. So I don't think Aaron was ever going to be a happy, chirpy, jolly or funny character - it's just not him. Having said that, yes, there will be a lot more heartwarming stuff. We think that, over the months ahead, Aaron and Jackson's story will be a love story - it's about them together and inevitably, because it's a love story, there'll be a lot of stuff to enjoy and a lot of heartwarming stuff there."

From Inside Soap – an interview with Andy Walker – set to play the role of Steve Kelly.
Being approached to be part of the cast of your favourite soap is something most people can only dream of - but for Andy Walker, the prospect has turned into reality. The tetraplegic actor appears in Emmerdale this week as Steve Kelly, a man who befriends paralysed Jackson Walsh in an attempt to help the troubled lad come to terms with his condition. “I was approached by a charity, The Back Up Trust, who asked me if I wanted to audition for the part of Steve,” says Andy, who was left tetraplegic following a diving accident in Goa in 2006. “I said yes, and they put me forward. I’ve never done any acting before, but thought I’d give it a go!”
Jackson meets Steve following his mum Hazel and boyfriend Aaron’s discovery that he wants to end his life. With the pair urging him to stay positive about the future, Jackson agrees to meet up with other people in the same situation. “It’s important to convey the positive side of dealing with Jackson’s injury,” explains Andy. “The Emmerdale producers have told me how the storyline’s set to play out, and I’ve now got the opportunity to show the viewers a totally different perspective. Sadly, I do come across people like Jackson – but thankfully more people think like me than reach his level of despair.”
It sounds as if Steve might prove to be a breath of fresh air for Jackson, who really has hit an all-time low. “I’m like Steve in real life,” Andy tells us “He’s positive, outgoing and sociable. He challenges the boundaries that his disability brings about, and, wants to help people enjoy their life to the full. I haven’t found it difficult to adapt to the role, because I just see myself with a different name and speaking different words.”
We’re hoping that Steve manages to get through to Jackson – but Andy knows all too well that things are never that straightforward. “Not everyone can see the light at the end of the tunnel,” he reckons. “I’ve always been a very positive person, even before my accident. But Jackson has so many issues that he can’t see the wood for the trees. Not everyone can achieve it, but there are lots of ways for the majority of people to find their way through”. While Steve helps Jackson battle his inner turmoil, Andy’s had some help of his own preparing for his stint in the soap. “I’ve known Kelvin Fletcher (Andy Sugden) for years” he shares. “He gave me lots of tips, and spent time with me running through my lines until I felt comfortable.” “I never get nervous – but I didn’t sleep for four days before filming my scenes!” continues Andy. “Working with seasoned professionals like Pauline Quirke (Hazel) when you’ve never even been in a school play is terrifying! I didn’t realise how intense it would be, but I had a lot of fun”. As it happens, Andy’s only recently become aware of Jackson’s story, despite his family being massive fans of the show. “My mum, grandma & sister are all into Emmerdale” he reveals. “They didn’t tell me about Jackson’s plot before I got the part, as they thought I’d find it upsetting to watch. The first scene I saw was Jackson going into the woolpack, and then Hazel turning up. I’ve been through the same thing, and it took me right back”.
While Andy’s hoping that his screen appearance will prove an eye-opener for the soap’s many fans, he’s also loving every minute of his new found fame. “I’m excited about being recognised as someone from Emmerdale,” he chuckles, “I’m going to milk it for all its worth”.

And a couple of so-called viewers questions, answered by the executive producer, Steve November.
I say so-called because it's fairly common knowledge that they are actually press releases from ED - sold under the guise of being viewer questions to make them more reader friendly.
Can Hazel stay, even if Jackson leaves Emmerdale? Yes – Hazel will be staying for as long as we can keep her on screen. Pauline quirk is absolutely wonderful. We’ll be looking for more for her to do, regardless of what happens to Jackson. Emmerdale has had a good year, and a lot of that has come from excellent casting.
Are you at all surprised by the massive response to Aaron & Jackson’s relationship – and was Jackson’s accident always planned? I didn’t expect their relationship to be such a mainstream hit, but those characters have caught the viewer’s imagination in quite a fantastic way. That’s down to the writers, of course, but also Danny Miller & Marc Silcock. And yes – Jackson’s accident was always planned – we wanted Aaron to find love, but be then faced with another big obstacle.
