I don't think they would break them up for good, but if they did, I would not watch anymore!

I'm excited for Ben & Duncan. People are saying they could be the next JP & Craig since the same guy is running this show now. Not having watched any scenes with Ben, I have to ask what are your impressions? I see on Wikipedia that the character has been quite poorly received in the past. I see that the kissing scene has already been filmed (yesterday?) but don't know how far ahead of the airdate they're filming. It's clearly going to be a long-term s/l since it will be a "few months" before Ben's father Phil learns of his son's homosexuality. Cue the familial rejection for young Ben.
I also wonder if Ben's path will cross with Christian & Syed? I remember the Mitchells have a longstanding feud with the Beales, who are Christian's sister's in-laws. And how long it'll take before some nutjob starts writing about Too Many Gays on One Soap.

I'm not surprised that Ben will be coming out. It's been a while since I watched full episodes, but I can recall that Ben was pretty obviously coded as gay. In particular, I remember a scene where he dressed up and performed Lady Gaga's "Lovegame."
I think that a lot of the negative response had to do with the actor who used to play Ben, who was (in a word) bad. The new actor seems much better--he's got more of a presence--or so it seems to me from his appearances here and there in the Christian and Syed storyline.
It will be interesting to see where this goes. There's potential, I think.

nemari, what is the source for the rumour about a permanent break-up? Hurray about the return of Amira! I honestly wish I could remember where. It was kind of in passing in context to all the couples that are no longer together or that are breaking up. It was something along the lines of Jackson died, Fer died, Christian and Olli are broken up, Deniz and Roman are done, and I heard Christian and Syed are breaking up for good as well. WTF is going on...type of comment. I really hoped it was untrud about Christian and Sy, there are about the only positive thing kind of going at the moment. And it took the so bloody LONG to get together, ugh. And Amira is kind of eh...I have a feeling she is going to make Syed revert back to his "maybe I'm not gay because I'm Muslim" thing. Really hope not

If we could decide who we loved, it would be much simpler, but less magical.

I really curious to how both Syed and Christian react to the fact that Syed has a child with Amira. I wonder if Amira will even let Syed or Christian for that matter be a part of the kid's life.

Why do Ben & Duncan have to get the "could be the next JP & Craig" anchor tied around their ankles already? Can't we just speculate and see what happens with these particular characters without having to put on the weight of what Kirkwood achieved on HOL over four years ago?
I wonder the same thing, Cheerios. Amira's coming from a very hurtful, bitter & justifiable (IMO) place in what she experienced in her past with Syed, Christian & his family. Let's remember that Zaniab KNEW how Syed felt about Christian and she let him go on and marry Amira, because she assumed, wished, thought and believed that marrying a woman he didn't love would keep HER family from shame. She could give a damn about Amira's feelings for Syed OR her family's shame.

I don't know if she was just being overly dramatic, but in a recent interview the actress who plays Amira said that Amira's father has basically been holding her and the baby against her will. I wonder how that will play out, and if the drama will come from Syed having to get Amira and the baby out of that situation. I don't know how Christian would react to that, since Amira would go from being dependent on her father to being dependent on Syed.

I'm so tired to Chyred only being on maybe 3 times a month. I know they have a big storyline coming up but damn do they have to be off such a long time. Do anyone know when the next time they will be on.

I know, it's ridiculous... I have never followed a storyline with such a bad pacing before, ever! It makes it really difficult to keep being interested.
I hope they are on more regularly once their next big storyline starts.

I'm not sure, but according to Wikipedia the release date for her album has been bumped back to March 2012 "due to work committments." So she may be around for a few months.

There's a very important spoiler video on some of the youtube sites, that shows some scenes that will air in Novmber. If anyone hasn't seen it, I'd be happy to PM a link. These deal with why Christian leaves.

I think the Amira, Syed, Christian storyline is a good one especially since the BBC soap is showing how difficult it is for a gay south Asian muslim man to come out.
Gay people of colour have more to lose than white gays I believe. Syed doesn't want to lose his place in his community and his family.
It isn't easy in Muslim communities to be gay and Syed's family on the soap is actually more understanding than some families. People need to realize that there are gay men that do have children. Syed's storyline is well written because it shows he has a lot of respect for his parents, his culture, and yet he loves Christian.

Syed's storyline is well written because it shows he has a lot of respect for his parents, his culture, and yet he loves Christian. I know this isn't a spoiler, but I just wondered how many of you on here knew about this hate campaign from earlier this year: www.eastlondonadvertiser.co.uk/news/ban_gay_hate_extremist_preachers_east_london_mosque_is_urged_1_918288I live in the East End of London, right in the heart of the largest Bangladeshi community outside of Bangladesh, and see and hear racism and homophobia all around me, from all communities, Muslims and non-Muslims, Asians, Africans, Europeans. The putting up of anti-gay posters around the area earlier this year is just one example, but the whole climate does make me very worried for my friends and family who are gay and live in this area (my brother is gay and was attacked and beaten by 3 men earlier this year for absolutely no reason other than bashing). In such an environment I cannot even begin to imagine how difficult it must be for any gay or lesbian members of the muslim community to be able to be honest with who they are. As you can read in that article, there are several speakers at that mosque (although I stress this is ONE mosque among many, I am not stating that this is a broadly held viewpoint) who consistently preach gay hatred, and do nothing but divide the broader community and create a "them and us" attitude, rather than move towards a greater understanding all around, which is what we should all be seeking if we are to live happily together. I cannot speak for the effect the sentiment has on gay/lesbian members of the muslim community, but I can imagine, and it's sobering stuff. What I find really sad and depressing about the "real" Eastenders life that I live is that it is just as harsh, if not harsher, than the soap at times.

Thanks for the info about the poster. I think it is just terrible your brother got bashed. I did not know in parts of London the climate against gays was so extreme. Interestingly, George Michael the pop star complained about the Christian and Syed storyline on twitter the other day. Michael says the Christian and Syed storyline is too depressing. Christian finally left Syed because he couldn't take it anymore and I think that's pretty realistic. I can't imagine how a guy like Christian must feel dating someone from a different culture and not really understanding his boyfriend's world. Christian has tried to be sympathetic but the cultural divide seems to be too much.
I admit, I wish the Syed character was a bit stronger and stood up to his homophobic family a bit more. It seems the writers are trying to show though, the real difficulty a gay Muslim man would have coming out even in England. I can't imagine how hard it must be. Some people think the Amira storyline with Syed and the child is BS but in real life I imagine it happens. The BBC have done a good job showing how hard it is for a gay Muslim man like Syed to live openly gay. Syed is actually risking everything. The truth is, in some Muslim communities Syed would probably been killed already by something called an honour killing. Family honour means a lot in South Asian cultures. Of course, honour killings are extreme. But the BBC couldn't do an honour killing storyline because the Muslim community would become upset. But the homophobia of Syed's family against this relationship with the white guy Christian I believe is being depicted honestly. Some western people can say why doesn't Syed just live his life but for some people in different cultures their family are their lives. The Western culture is very individualistic it is all about the individual. But in other parts of the world family means everything to a person.

Actually good point cause the only live streaming I's seen is not available outside the UK.
But yeah I am dying to see the chemistry between Christian and Syed on their first return.
