Mr Cinderella - Vietnam

This new production has come from O2 (Nations Brother, The Most Peaceful Place Is With You) with co-production support from PopsTV (Paint With Love). It stars Trương Minh Thảo in the title role alongside the ubiquitous Nguyễn Bá Vinh who seems to appear in almost every BL that is made in Vietnam. Although this is obviously a modern day retelling of the Cinderella story, finding out anything about the series actual plotline has been difficult. O2 have not released any synopsis information except for a single quote to accompany each of the main character posters.




In order:

(1) '7 days ago I just understand what's mine... forever mine. It's obvious that I get it back.'

(2) 'Cinderella turns into a man and mother, what else is there to love and have fun with? Or should I go find a new love, but I can't eat this deal...'

(3) 'So since then, have you ever had feelings for me?'

(4) 'Can a "Mr Cinderella" turn into a prince?'

I am really liking this one even with the dreamy Doctor's ethical lapse of taking a patient home - though I am surprised that they didn't go for a sponge bath joke amongst all the other shower-related banter. Ba Vinh looks amazing - I think O2 should try to figure out some sort of spy thriller or something for him next, as most of his earlier fight scenes looked pretty good. I like the iteraction between Khoa and Dung - Khoa is slightly flirty, slightly mischievous, and probably slightly in love, while Dung's dream suggests that he might be more receptive to the pairing. The nurse's nightmare at the end of the second episode was hilarious.

Also, considering how many guys Ba Vinh has kissed, boy was that kiss with his ex was awkward (and I know that it was her trying to rescue him from his tormentors - and would have been a surprising kiss to say the least).

That accidental kiss at the end of episode 3 would even make a Thai Director blush in embarrassment (I expect better from you O2 Productions). Ba Vinh is going back and forth from Gay Panic to Gay Interested in a way that even gave him whiplash requiring another trip to the hospital. The product placement was almost to Skinship levels - and Ba Vinh should maybe feel a bit exploited after the shower scene at the beginning.

I actually like all 4 of the gay characters - the side couple was quite adorable in this ep.

Huynh is a real piece of work - I think he may actually be insane. Thinh is absolutely adorable - he deserves a much better love interest. Khao and Dung continue their flirting - the scene in the hospital where Khao just wanted to hug Dung was very nice (though clearly disappointing to Dung who wanted a nice kiss).

Unfortunately, it looks like O2 Productions is looking to raise funds to continue filming They haven't had any embedded promotions for skincare products in the last couple of episodes and they actually have a paypal link in the episode 6 comments asking people to send them funds.

At least Khao found the nerve to tell Huynh to leave - but I wish he had grown a backbone earlier in the episode to support Dung (though why Dung didn't mention that Khao's sister was waiting for him was a bit odd).

I think Huynh has Dung Locked up somewhere when he said Dung would not come back any more was very telling

Khao was pretty naïve - seeing what he saw on the rooftop, he should have reported Hyunh - both to law enforcement (for attempting to stick Dung with a drug - based on the timing he could have hear Hyunh refer to the shot being Polonium - so attempted murder. But even if he didn't hear that was still assault that he observed) and to whatever Health Agency that certifies medical professionals in Vietnam (for the ethical lapses of Hyunh's severe mistreatment of a patient). But instead he lets Hyunh resign and leave???

I felt bad for Thinh - not only does he get rejected and betrayed, but his rejection came while dressed up as a demented Easter Bunny Hopefully, O2 will keep the actor on contract - because I would like to see him get a main couple storyline instead of whatever this was (and hopefully O2 will get its funding sorted and be able to do some more series in the future).

The bath scene made up for a lot of the shortcomings of a whirlwind wrap-up finale (though interrupting it in the middle with several scenes of Khao and his demented sister wasn't really appreciated). I kind of felt like they planned on a few more episodes to tie things up.
