The story does sound terrible. More tired stereotypes from tired stereotype Sean, who always has to be the tragic/pathetic gay. The only bright spot for me would be if they keep the new gay character around, and since they no longer keep any new characters around for more than a short time, I doubt that will happen.

Mike Baldwin's son/Ken Barlow's grandson, Adam Baldwin, was supposed to be gay, but the show axed the plot because it was too soon after Todd. www.digitalspy.com/soaps/a158556/corrie-star-reveals-axed-sexuality-plot.htmlThe actor was terrible, and I can't see them showing much of anything, so maybe it was for the best. I would have liked seeing more of his body though, and he has very sexy lips.

The "Sean's new love interest" storyline kicked off today. Not that anything happened - Sean was at the gymnasium with str8 buddy Jason. "Love interest" appeared in the background - Sean pretended he knew his way around a gymnasium (presumably to impress "love interest") - love interest noticed & winked at Sean. Ho hum

Wow, I actually really liked the scene. Not a lot happened but it was very believable to me and the new guy was cute. I though Sean was adorable and Jason (who really is like walking oblivion) as usual was clueless. Bless. People definitely tend to hate on Sean something fierce (not so much here but on other blogs) I know blokey bloke guys are all the rage when it comes to gays on TV over the last 10 years or so (as are super grrly lesbians). Neither is an "accurate" depiction of gay folks (because we are much more diverse in our style, appearance and lifestyles then The L Word or most soaps now adays would indicate). I think the fear of presenting gays and lesbians as "stereotypes" has caused movies and tv to run screaming to the other extreme where there is very little diversity represented when it comes to gays on tv. I know I'm not so much responding to folks here as just stating my frustration. Anywhow, I've always found Sean to be charming in just being himself despite how much he's mocked (the actor and the character). Not all gay guys in real life are super macho and I don't think we should be afraid to represent the full "rainbow" of who we are on screen. If folks chose to stereotype us because if it, so be it. Anyway, I hope someone will do the clips. I can watch the full show but I have no idea when Sean will be on and I don't want to have to wade through whole episodes if he's not featured. I could totally see why a cute guy would think Sean was funny and charming. Maybe it's the lezzie perspective but I don't always think initial attraction is based upon rock hard abs (or a nice rack ) and classic beauty (as someone on After Elton implied). Sometimes someone grabs your attention or makes you laugh. I remember getting an immediate crush on a girl once because of the way she held her beer! I just made me want to go over and get to know her... I'm going to hold off judgment for now and just hope it doesn't turn into Sean constantly feeling bad about himself and the new guy constantly trying to prove that he "really" likes Sean (because that would be tired) I haven't watched Corrie since Todd left (back in ancient times) so it will be exciting to have a kind of new soap to be interested in for the summer.

To update this (not that anyone asked, sorry!) the Sean love interest storyline ended with a whimper. The guy never had any interest in Sean. He did fancy Jason, and Sean, for some reason, allowed him to think Jason was gay. This all ended with a drunk Jason going to a gay club and winning Mr. Gay Weatherfield. When Sean told Leon that Jason was straight, Leon had Jason disqualified. That was his last appearance. It looks like the show will be doing a story about teen lesbians. www.digitalspy.com/soaps/s3/coronationstreet/scoop/a201480/corrie-producer-offers-2010-story-insights.htmlI don't know if the gay stuff will ever move beyond one note Sean, although the incoming producer is gay.

Oh well, that pretty much sux. Thanks for the update. I'm not really into lesbian storylines even though I am bisexual. Lesbian storyline are never done well, there's maybe like 1 or 2 exceptions, but not more than that. I am only interested in gay storylines.

I know what you mean. I do like some lesbian stories, it usually depends on whether they manage to provide strong material, good relationships, and go beyond the usual cliches. I think there's potential because Sophie is an interesting character and she's also a born-again Christian.
I just hope this doesn't mean they think they won't need to have any stories for gay men. There's not some type of quota.

They seem to be starting to set up the story with Sophie and Sian. There was a sweet scene between them on Monday's episodes where Sophie and Sian were talking via webcam or Skype or whatever and Sophie was upset about a disagreement with her father. Sian said she wasn't going to let this end without seeing Sophie smile at her. So finally, Sophie did. The two girls have a great rapport, it will be interesting to see where this leads to. You can also find some background clips here, building up their friendship, and showing Sophie's ill-fated relationship with Ben (he kissed his mate's mother!). www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iSYnlZsLJQ

There's already an existing thread for this show. Please use that one.
