Well, this is a series from catalonian tv (tv3) that are now being aired for the rest of Spain on La sexta channel. I can's say that much about the show because i only watched the third episode (and i didn't know about the gay content till the end). It's about a philosophy teacher who start to work on a high school, the same high school where his son goes to class. They have a weird relationship because they didn't live together till recently (Bruno, the son, lived with his mother till she went to Italy) and his father (who is quite peculiar) shake his world (even when he is very popular with his students). What i find quite interesting is that the gay character is probably the main young character, and he has some peculiarities that make him interesting, apart of some topics (only his best female friend knows he is gay and he is in love with his straight best friend, who doesn't know a thing) he is someone who will be accepted, his father is liberal, and his gandma worked on theatre, both will be supportive, but he just can't come out. At least till the later part of the first season when other gay character (who is quite different from the heteronormative Bruno) enters in the show. It treats themes like bullying, one of the characters suffers from agoraphobia due to the bullying he suffered, and is home schooled by Merlí The show is quite good (apart of the gay content) and i'm a sucker for high school shows so i will follow the next episodes. I don't know if there's something about the show on youtube (in spanish or catalan), and i probably won't search because i don't want to spoil myself (when there's 10 episodes unaired in spanish of the first season). This te oficial site (in catalan) www.ccma.cat/tv3/merli/And this is the site in la sexta (in spanish) www.lasexta.com/series/merli/

The series is quite great. Not only the gay storyline. I was glad that not only focus in the "gay guy falls for a straight guy" but also about the heteronormativity in the gay community. The whole series is in spanish and catalan in YOUTUBE, and there will be a second season .

It's a pity there's no channel with eng subs (or at least i didn't find it yet) because there are three channels with the whole episodes, one in spanish, one in catalan with spanish subs and other (the original one) in catalan with catalan subs. I don't have any problem because i understand catalan quite well (the advantages of following Max story in El cor de la ciutat).
And it's a pity because the show is great. This is not Física o química looking for shock value, and even with that the gay scene was hotter than any gay teen relationship i saw on a tv show. In fact it was something unexpected (and i still don't know what's going to happen because Pol seemed only experimenting) the main character is an adorable jerk, the use of philosophes in the storylines is a great idea, the teen characters are not carbon copies, they have interest on their own, the show is funny and sometimes emotional.
Hopefully someone will sub the story to english
I really love it

Thanks, mrfixit477. I was wondering what they said to each other in that scene. As the YouTube poster points out in the YT comments for the video above, it is possible to watch the entire series on YT with the automatic translation feature turned on and set to English. This translation will likely be pretty faulty, b ut you should be able to basically follow what's happening. You can do that here: www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHF437Sz2MHotfjL7hYTGy3owJ5M-G8b6

Huge thanks to the person subbing this. The show seems very interesting. I like that they didn't make Bruno too one directional. Hope that stays consistent in the future

This show is truly wonderful. Bruno is beautiful, isn't he? I like all the characters in this show, especially Merli's mother.
Much thanks to the generous individuals doing the subbing.

This must be one of the best school based series ever. The acting is first class. The characterisations are interesting and believable. The plot lines are given time to develop without being over long. The writing is intelligent. There is humour and angst. Okay, it is perhaps a bit idealistic, but I can forgive that. Really very enjoyable.

So apparently the second season of Merli is currently being filmed and will be broadcast in the Fall. If someone knows otherwise, please correct me. If broadcast in the Fall, it will probably again be quite a while afterwards that versions with English subtitles become available.
In an interview about the second season, the show creator, Hector Lozano, commented on the future of the Pol-Bruno relationship:
Q: A plot that was incomplete, according to some viewers, was that of Bruno and Pol. Is the issue dropped?
A: We will see. Pol until now has been a hetero-curious, but this does not mean he is secretly gay. He is not. He likes girls, as has been shown. No fakes. But it is better to leave his relationship with Bruno in question.
His answer suggests there will be more occurring between Pol and Bruno, but he doesn't want to give any of it away. My guess is we'll continue to see Pol torn between his deep love for Bruno and his lust for women. Which will win? This fits with the show's philosophy theme since the question of whether the needs of the soul or the body have the stronger pull in humanity is a big question in philosophy. Since the show does tend to show things in a idealized light, it could be that eventually they show Pol choosing love and Bruno. This would certainly be what the fans would like to see, but whether them getting together is what would happen in real life is another matter. If they do pair up Pol and Bruno down the road, they could justify it with Pol's lack of love in his family life. He badly needs a source of love and support in his life and along with getting that from Bruno, he would also get Merli as a father-in-law. I could see how that could become an irresistible package for Pol. Perhaps in season 2 Bruno gets a boyfriend which causes Pol to confront what he really wants.

I hope they don't make Bruno and Oliver a couple. I like Oliver, he is funny, but i don't think they are interesting as future couple (apart of the fact that i would like a show with two gay character when they have more options than date each other) And it would be nice if Pol was bisexual

I like Oliver, too, but I didn't get a romance vibe between him and Bruno - although Oliver probably wishes there was one. (Or he would if he wasn't fictional.) To me, Oliver only came on the show to play a role in the conclusion of Bruno's story arch. Now that it's done, he seems expendable to me. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not back for season 2. One of the articles I read did say there would be at least one new student - and also a new teacher at the school. I think it would be most interesting if Bruno met someone outside of the school - someone a little older who is very impressive and successful. That could create the most jealousy from Pol since he has nothing and is very insecure about his prospects to ever amount to anything.
