I don't understand why they broke up tbh. It made no sense. I have been torn about Connor being in a relationship since Oliver was introduced. I preferred him when he was single, screwing around being unapologetically gay. That said, this isn't how I wanted Connor and Oliver to end. I think they had excellent chemistry and they made a good couple. But oh well.. maybe they'll get back together eventually.

I could not believe they broke up, after all they've been thru to end like this made no send to me. They made Oliver the bad guy here, he screwed Connor out of going away to school just to break his heart by dumping him. I don't get the logic and I did not like slutty Connor but I guess we're going back to him. How uncomfortable it's going to be with them working at the same place.

I guess it does make sense to break them up if you look at it purely from the writers' perspective. More angst, more different kind of scenes between them, more intrigue for the viewers (will they or won't they find their way back to each other?). Because they now work together, they don't have to be a couple for there to be scenes between them. Keeping stable couples interesting is always a challenge in TV shows, as we know.
Having said that, I'm not sure I get the reasons they used to break them up. Oliver's rationale seemed to come out of the blue, although it was kind of weird how Connor was not furious at him. Perhaps that was a sign that something was wrong at the core. Anyway, I didn't like what Oliver did with the Stanford thing and I didn't like the way he threatened his way into getting the job he wanted. I think it's possible Oliver could become a darker and darker character to the point where he uses threats and maybe worse to keep Connor from moving on. What he did with the Stanford acceptance could be just the beginning of what he is capable of doing.
I actually don't want to see Connor go back to screwing around like crazy since I think that would be a regression for him. Screwing around a little, yeah, but not to the point where he doesn't even remember the guys' names like before. I'd like to see him meet a great guy who is boyfriend material and then Oliver can stew in his insecurities.

due to the fact that we have seen Oliver so much I guess the dead person isn't Connor.
