Was Maeve really convicted? I thought she was just awaiting trial. I still can't fathom how they could have ever charged her for the crime. Based on what evidence? That really made no sense. Do they really think that she injected him with drugs and drowned him in the pool while she was drunk out of her mind? Ludicrous. I know, right? In what way is Marty "dull"? He's always been way more fun than Esther, who has been insufferable for quite a while now. I don't really believe that she loves Marty. Honestly I don't have any idea what they're planning for this character. I feel like Esther should have been written out ages ago. Also, I love how she didn't even care that TK and Cece were leaving Ferndale. I hope that we get a break from Dawn as well. Although if they don't start introducing some new characters soon then I guess they'll always have to have her front and centre. A lot of characters don't even have any storylines at all. I agree that the show desperately needs another bi/gay male character. It's a shame that Rico was axed so quickly. I can't imagine they would put a woman awaiting trial in the same cell as a convicted killer like Pania? I really thought Maeve had gone down for Pastor Scott's murder, since (looking at how pristine the rest of the hospital is) his body probably wasn't so badly burnt that they couldn't see he'd been bludgeoned to death rather than died from the fire. But no, the dialogue repeatedly confirmed she was in prison for Wilder's murder. It makes no sense to me either, especially when she was already perfectly in the frame for Scott's murder, having a strong motive and actually bashed him prior to Rebecca finishing him off. Why would no one - Dawn, Jack - testify that Scott was Wilder's real killer? They know it too. It's a real headscratcher. Esther has really devolved into the worst, all the sadder because she used to be a feisty, likable and sympathetic character, but I can't see her going anywhere since the show really seems to love the actress - I mean, they even made Esther's 30th birthday the focus of the show's anniversary celebration! Another actress they seem to adore is the one who plays Dawn. Except for the times the actress takes leave, she is always front and center, handed one frontburner story after another - and one love interest after another. At the end of last year, there were three men simultaneously interested in her: Scott, Logan and the hot detective. Meanwhile poor Jack can't get a look-in. I think in all his time on the show, he's only had two boyfriends who were on the regular cast - Lincoln and Cam. (And I don't know if Cam even counts, since he ultimately said they were only together as a pity shag and he wasn't even attracted to Jack.) Everybody else has been a recurring character. And Jack's now been on the show for the better part of a DECADE. Characters introduced in the last couple of years like Villiami have had more regular love interests than that!

After tonight's episode, I still think Jack and Rahu have chemistry, even though I don't think it'll actually happen lol.

I do see a breakup with Gia in his future but I expect that, even if he stays on, he'll be moved onto Madonna (who seems to be sharing scenes, and opinions, with him for a reason) or some other woman. The actor just doesn't seem to be cut out for a gay romance. Have he and Gia even kissed onscreen? I was surprised that Emmett had been fired, but now I suspect David Kearney is secretly a Brightshine cult member and feeding Chris's info to Rebecca, helping her undermine his coup attempt. As it is, he's lost Drew's support - very convenient (and blatantly telegraphed) having the bank hike up his mortgage rate just minutes earlier in the same episode. The main beef the POC staff have with Rebecca was her reluctance to fire Emmett - but that's sorted now, so will they still stick by Chris? TK's absence - or if the actor isn't available, then his daughter Gia or his sister exercising his proxy - is rather glaring in this story. Doesn't he (or his father's clan) own the land on which the hospital sits? Or are they keeping that plot point as the ace in the hole for TK to ride to the rescue after Chris is soundly defeated, "proving" thereby that TK is the deserving CEO after all despite the rigged circumstances of his previous installation in that post?

I also don't understand why Dawn has completely forgotten about Brightshine and Scott. I guess she doesn't care anymore? It seems like all she's interested in is Logan and his family drama. It's bizarre how indifferent most staff members are to the hospital's close relationship with Brightshine. Everyone at least knows that Scott attacked Logan, right? Or do they somehow not believe that either?
I doubt that they will revisit TK's family's ownership of the land. The writers seem to have forgotten about all of that.
And as for David Kearney, I don't think he believes in anything. He is just a classic dour, soulless pen-pusher who spends his days staring at spreadsheets trying to find ways to "cut costs". He'll align himself with whomever he thinks is more likely to win.

He'll align himself with whomever he thinks is more likely to win. There's so much of TK's story that seemed to be forgotten. All I could think when we were hearing about the family's financial struggles (necessitating CeCe working at St. Catherine's) was what happened to you taking all the money your father left you? I wonder if the actor requested a break in a hurry, or someone realized that a show that gives lip service to talking about today's concerns was sending a questionable message in having multiple characters among the mega-rich (and Drew and Harper's finances also tend to go up or down depending on the plot). I agree about Dawn. She did express her disgust toward Brightshine in the premiere week...mostly because they were blocking a missing poster of Barry. A part of me assumes she will be involved again when all this wraps up, but it's kind of sad (if not surprising) that the only reason reason she was involved was love drama (I wonder if that cop who had the hots for her is going to ever be back - I guess the next time someone else gets arrested). So is this sister of Logan's just there to be a Damo replacement (quirky hospital worker)? Not sure why she needed to be related to him...

Yeah, I've been lowkey wondering if they're trying to set something up with Rahu and Madonna because of that reason. I like their interactions, but I'd much prefer it if they just remain friends. Regardless though, I think she'll probably get back with Viliami at the end of the day. Shortland Street does have a habit of introducing possible relationships and then dropping it. Rahu was painted as Esther's next 'epic love', until the writers dropped it and never mentioned it again. And Jack definitley was written to have a crush on Rahu at first, but that's not a thing anymore either. And yeah, I've been wondering the same thing! I don't know if we've ever seen Rahu and Gia actually kiss on screen. Yeah! i honestly think TK and Cece might come back. I thought TK left for good, but I saw that the actress who plays Cece is back on set in the nurse uniform. Also, introducing Gia's character and then having TK leave for good soon after seemed like a weird choice to me, so it makes sense for him to come back imo.

Is Esther really going to leave Marty and date someone else again? This back and forth with Esther is so tiresome. Speaking of tiresome, what is the matter with Nicole? Isn't she meant to be Harper's best friend? It doesn't seem like she cares at all about her. Instead she just can't wait to jump into bed with Drew, I mean wtf?? Nicole and Drew have never been remotely interested in each other. Also, has everyone forgotten that Harper has postnatal depression?

I don't buy that Nicole would ever be interested in Drew beyond that moment of grief and need. I do think they only put Marty/Esther together again because of her real life pregnancy. I think it's just a matter of time until they split. I do think Rahu/Esther would be a mistake because I don't see any chemistry and I think he would annoy the hell out of her if they actually got together. I always assume they will do something with Esther that ends up annoying me.

Drew and Nicole only worked as a fling. Given the headspace they were both at, a drunken ONS could've made sense. Them being in love though - utterly unbelievable and out of character. I could've seen an unexpected pregnancy, because they might not have bothered with a condom while drunk and because it brings plenty of drama and conflict - people would be asking who the baby daddy is, neither Drew nor Nicole would want to come clean, Drew might want to terminate the pregnancy (not only to keep their secret but also because he can barely cope with the 3 kids he has already) and Nicole wanting to keep it because of what happened to Kiri (her daughter with Lincoln and Jack) and Wilder.
I have to admit the death of Marty and Esther's son was sad and movingly portrayed by both actors. Although the outcome was telegraphed once Esther told them to save the baby instead of her and Marty negated her wishes, up to that point I didn't believe they would go there since the actress is pregnant IRL. Frankly, I would much rather they'd killed off Esther - increasingly tiresome and odious - instead of having to watch her berate Marty for (rightly, IMO) telling Chris to save her life over the baby's when she already has two kids - including a daughter who would be orphaned by her death. (Piki's guardianship might actually be a change of pace for Jack, and potential source of conflict with Marty who might believe, as her stepdad who's also raising Piki's baby brother, that he is the better candidate to raise her together with Marty Jr.)
Instead we get more Esther, and Marty competing with Jack for the unenviable position of being the character who's crapped upon most often by the show.
Was this the end of the I.V.? The closing party, complete with flashbacks, made it seem quite final. But I don't know why they couldn't wait for Nicole's return before they sold up; she has been landlady off and on, including with her ex-husband Vinny.

Esther is the worst! Good grief. But it would just be too depressing imo to kill her off. Pikitia left orphaned with two dead parents? That would just be absurd. At least we should be free of her for a while because the actress will presumably go on maternity leave for at least a few months surely.

I think at this point the character's death would have been more powerful than depressing, as she did say she wanted to die over her child dying. Unfortunately we are now stuck with even more of the same misery we always have with Esther, along with the impending breakup with Mary (someone she never loved, or particularly liked, in the first place). Powerful as the scenes were, having so many characters in one setting who had buried children should have made the show see how far they have gone into nonstop depressing, unpleasant material of late. I guess when you have Damo 2.0 onboard you don't need any lighter material.

Yes at this point, we have bereaved parents Chris (two times over if you include the baby he lost with Harry's mum, whose mention last week took me by - pleasant - surprise), Maeve (Wilder), Nicole and Jack (Kiri - the lack of her mention just shows how little the show cares about Jack, he should have had a moment to be upset), Harper (her teenage cousin who was her ward), Dawn (her baby with Prince, who was once thought to be Marty's), TK (who had to abort his first kid due to fetal abnormalities) and Kate (not her own baby, but her stepson Curtis). And now we can add Marty and Esther to the list. That's 10 characters, yeesh. Daisy is completely unbearable. For one thing, every time they say Daisy, I hear Desi and I start in terror expecting the latter to pop up like a bad smell amid all these other cast reappearances. And for another, she is basically the Dawn template dusted off and reused, except with added IT skills and minus the prowess in getting the men she's lusting after into bed (for now). If Dawn had been retired permanently, it might not be so tiresome but with both of them on canvas at the same time - ugh! (I will say that Logan has become so much more bearable now, and that's despite them putting him together with Dawn.)

I wonder if they have asked some of the longer-running cast members to take breaks, now that Harper and TK have been gone and Nicole too (not sure how long Nicole's break is going to be). I agree it makes no real sense for Nicole to not be there and for Leanne to reappear for the end of the IV, even if Leanne has her own history with the place. It's confusing that they only let Nicole be owner for a few months. Maybe she's going to get it back when this story is over? If Brightshine buys the IV, then they have truly taken over the entire canvas. This has been a real umbrella story in a way even Carla's return wasn't. This has made for some good drama (and the actress who plays Rebekah is doing a good job), but it's so heavy-going - it's been hard to watch the episodes since they came back from the break. I wish they'd been more expansive with the flashbacks...felt like they barely started before they finished. I keep trying to figure out if Daisy is meant to be an autistic character or if it's just an acting choice.

A few other questions I have:
- Did Leanne lose all her scratch card money, the way TK seemingly lost all his father's money? - Did Chris say what happened to Amelie? Is Tom raising her now?

A few other questions I have: - Did Leanne lose all her scratch card money, the way TK seemingly lost all his father's money? - Did Chris say what happened to Amelie? Is Tom raising her now? No idea what happened to Amelie - that's been bugging me too, considering how hard Chris fought for her - but I guess we're meant to believe Leanne invested the bulk of her scratch card winnings into the I.V. and either can't afford the repairs on her own or doesn't think it's a good value proposition to pour even more money into the place. Looks like we've got another recurring gay on the show. Tyler's only 17 so I can't imagine he is a love interest for Jack unless we're going to see groomer rhetoric thrown around (even though it'd be perfectly legal in NZ where the age of consent is 16). I'm not sure this is the case where something is better than nothing. Between Tyler's story, Cassie being convinced not to terminate her pregnancy, and the roadblocks to Drew's trans patient getting top surgery, it's obvious that Brightshine's bigoted agenda is coming to the fore. I wonder how Rebecca justifies her lesbian romance with Maeve. I'm glad Daisy turned out to be wrong about the amnesiac patient being her and Logan's half-brother. It was beyond ridiculous that another half-sibling would literally drop in like that. But I suspect it's building to a story where a half-sibling does appear and Logan won't believe Daisy even though she's right next time and missing her warning will lead to some kind of trouble for him and/or Dawn. Something odd is going on with the spoilers on the Shortland St website again. Below are the ones for the last 2 days. The second half of both days' spoilers didn't happen; Rahu never appeared yesterday nor Gia today. - Monday 20 February (7933) - Logan embraces the past. Rahu asks the wrong questions.
- Tuesday 21 February (7934) - Madonna finds new faith. Gia hides a potential game-changer.

Thanks for answering my question. I had a feeling they wouldn't want Chris to keep raising a kid forever, but I wish they'd managed even a line. (I'm also not thrilled with the idea of Tom raising a child he only really knew for about six months, those six months often spent on treating her mother like crap, so hopefully that hasn't happened) I shouldn't say it, but I had a feeling Tyler might be gay. I don't think the show will pair him with Jack, but I could easily see Jack trying to support him and then get accused of grooming. Maybe that would finally snap Maeve out of where she is now. The spoilers for the show have been confusing me for a while. The Chris spoilers I asked about weeks ago (him being warned) finally ended up appearing onscreen last week.

We can reset the kiss clock: Gia and Rahu finally kissed. It was a very brief lip-lock but after they exchanged ILYs earlier in the episode without kissing (and he greeted her on her return with a hug) I was starting to think it wouldn't happen at all, like Brightshine had taken over the writers' room.
The Brightshine interns were back but not Tyler. They have brought back Vili's nephew Junior and had him join the interns, so I don't know if that will lead to something?
They've added Brightshine to everyone's lanyards but not to the signs around the place? I mean how much would it cost to slap a sticker on?
I think they should've had Rebecca intervene in Esther's delivery with it leading to Esther becoming the Brightshine advocate among the staff - that would've been a twist over Madonna. Now Madonna's friend is probably going to die (and I vastly prefer Lovely to Madonna).

The Brightshine interns were back but not Tyler. They have brought back Vili's nephew Junior and had him join the interns, so I don't know if that will lead to something? I noticed on Monday's episode that Viliami had an odd look on his face after he saw Jack talking to Tyler. I am starting to think either Tyler will be convinced to falsely accuse Jack of trying to have sex with him, or that Jack will try to help Junior and Viliami will falsely accuse him of going after young boys. I may be wrong, but with Rebekah going after Gia and the Rainbow Clinic, Jack seems like another step toward making the hospital more of the fundamentalist utopia she wants. Your idea about Rebekah and Esther makes more sense than having Lovely return again just to try to kill herself and cause yet another crisis of faith for Madonna. How many is she on now? A dozen? The actress who plays Madonna is strong but they just keep throwing so much at Madonna when she needs a breather. I've never had this hard a time watching the show. It took me forever to get through the week of episodes. The show is completely joyless and unpleasant. Even if I get the idea of the Brightshine extremism storyline, I can't take much more of it. And the lighter material, if that's what it is intended as, with Logan's sister is a no-go. Not only does she annoy the hell out of me, she also seems extremely mentally ill, and was out of bounds trying to manipulate that amnesiac into thinking they were siblings. No wonder Logan's father wants nothing to do with her. Anyway, this is a cute video:

Sorry justinate I did not see that you had posted the spoilers with Jack's upcoming story several days ago. I know most people online (myself included) love to complain, but the sheer amount of negativity in that Instagram spoiler post was staggering. I hope this Brightshine story is over soon and the show can shape up its overall plotting to a place less miserable and overly focused on tiresome characeers.

I agree. The show right now is relentlessly grim. Even in the past when the show has explored dark storylines (Scott Spear in 2006/2008, the Ferndale Strangler in 2007-2008, Ethan Pierce and the bone harvesting in 2008) they managed to inject some amount of humour into the storylines, probably because of the fun characters. The show urgently needs to introduce some new characters who can inject some amount of fun into the show (not Daisy!). A lot of the characters also seem so helpless and/or indifferent to the presence of Brightshine and its impact on the hospital. It's all so depressing.

For me it's not so much the tone as it is the pacing - but that's always been Shorty's biggest shortcoming (pun intended). Everything happens so dang fast. Why would Rebecca, who seems like a slick operator, reveal her entire agenda in the span of a single week? Why have Nicole and Harper return at the same time? Why have Gia and Rahu break up in the same episode as their first kiss? (I guess it's time for the Gia actress to take a break. We also got confirmation that Rahu does not identify as queer, so if we were hoping he might move onto Jack, it won't be happening.) carld2, you get two answers in a single scene today. Leanne's been left destitute (her word) selling the IV at a loss, and she's the one who's been wrangling Amelie, somehow at the same time as wrangling Drew's trio. And Chris can offer to help Drew settle his kids into bed while presumably Leanne is with his granddaughter? And apparently she's been doing it for free, when she could probably have financed the IV's rebuild with babysitting fees from these 2 top surgeons alone. Instead she's risking serious health issues chasing after four very young kids - even before today's episode, it was a ridiculous position to put a stroke patient with osteoporosis.

Chris having only Leanne as childcare must be one of the most unrealistic things ever on this show. I agree that pacing is a big issue, although I do think the lack of lighter material doesn't help. No romance (unless you are mad for Dawn/Logan and his sister I guess), no comedy-based characters, etc. I don't need more 'comedy' along the lines of when Desi would go around treating Damo like garbage, but it's a shame Stanley has all but completely vanished and when we do see him he's barely doing anything. I wonder if or when Gia will be back. It seems like the show is wrapping up most of the TK-related stories of last year. And if they want to do Esther/Rahu, this is another step in that direction. If they do I hope they just do it fast because I'd like a reason to get to skip all of Esther's scenes.

We also got confirmation that Rahu does not identify as queer, so if we were hoping he might move onto Jack, it won't be happening.) carld2 , you get two answers in a single scene today. I don't think she's been doing it for free, I took it as her saying she'd need him to pay her hourly (instead of at the end of the week or fortnight) because she has so little to go onward.
