I was wondering what everyone's favorite gay books were, or if you read anything (gay related) at all. I myself haven't read too many gay-themed books, mostly because I have higher standards when it comes to books than I have for movies and it's so hard to know what is good. My favorite book so far is "Die Mitte der Welt" by Andreas Steinhöfel. It's written in German but it has been translated into English as well (by Steinhöfel himself if I'm not mistaken). It's a story about a 17-year-old boy who comes from a messed-up family and falls in love with a new student at his school. I know that sounds all very clichéd but it's really beautifully written and it's not a coming-out story. A. Steinhöfel's writing style has often been compared to John Irving but I can't comment on that because I've never actually read anything by Irving. Anyway, if you're interested in finding out more about this book, you can find the German version here and the English version here. Re-reading this thread ... I've found this book at my local library, and have put in a request for it. Also, I was wondering if anyone's read "Ely and Naomi's No Kiss List"? My teenager niece recommended it, and I've put in a request at the library for that as well. ETA: I've read it now ... I'm not sure I liked it all that much, but I did like the main character, Phil. He was appealing. I didn't like his mother or sister, though. It's a rather strange book. Thought provoking, rather than enjoyable, perhaps. But I'm glad I read it, so thank you very much for the rec.

I'm sitting here like a stunned mullet. All I can say is that everyone who likes m/m stories should read this series of original fiction. A Live Journal friend of mine (Sansa1970) recced these in her journal, and I'm taking the liberty of quoting her rec. I'm really too brain dead right now to come up with my own explanation, but I have made a few tiny changes: "The Shadow of the Templar" currently consists of four novels (the fourth was scheduled for release early next year, but has just been posted) and several short stories.
The premise is quite simple. There is Simon Drake (codename:Templar), the young hotshot FBI agent, whose job is to catch thieves. And there is Jeremy Archer, the infamous, international criminal wonder whose job is to steal things. They meet and fall in lust and try to kill each other. I adore the instant chemistry between the two, and it's a tension that never loses its edge, but by far the best part of the novels is, for me, the author's gift for writing banter. Simon's team very nearly steals the show, and I spent a good bit of time laughing over their antics and slick one-liners.
Don't expect character studies – these are action novels – but the author hasn't skimped on characterization. Everybody, especially Simon and Jeremy, are rich and three-dimensional. Their bond reminds me a bit of Warrick and Toreth's from ms_manna's Administration Series. Not in the sexual sense, but more in a "don't call this a relationship" kind of way. Not that this stops Jeremy from dropping everything and flying halfway around the world the moment Simon is shot. Ergo, there's plenty to satisfy the romantic in me, as well.
Hope you enjoy! And my advice is to not start reading unless you have a good bit of free time available. The stories are addictive.I've never read the Administration Series, but I love "The Shadow of the Templar" more than any other books I've recently read. Really, at the moment, I'm overwhelmed by the love! No more from me, though, just click this link here, and discover them for yourselves: Shadow of the Templar by M. Chandlerand if you do like them, please let the author know. She may write more! And, please, spread the word; the more who read, the more love the author may receive.

As Meat Loves Salt by Maria McCann is probably the best gay themed novel I've ever read. It's a historical piece... and it's amazing. I highly recommend it.

I thought this sounded like a good book, and it didnt disappoint when i read it: A Strong And Sudden Thaw, by R W Day.
Its about a young man, David, living in a small country town in an America after a new Ice Age has made people more isolated and religious. The book is narrated in first person from his viewpoint, and while there is a driving story about dragons and governement plots, its also about his relationship with a slightly older, more educated young man named Callan, who he falls in love with and is the catalyst for his coming of age.
I thought the developing relationship between the two was very sweet, and the author does a good job of developing David as well. Ive read it a couple fo times now, and id recommend it to other people to read.

I wonder if I should read Maurice or The Man Who Loved Yngve (it has been translated to my language - and I love the movie).
Anyone here who has read both and can give me a recommendation?

I Love Thore If you have seen Maurice the movie, you should love the book. The movie is a close adaptation of E. M. Forster's novel. I loved both. Should you want to explore Mr. Forster's universe, I would suggest you also read A Room with a View and Howards End: both excellent. I hadn't heard of The Man Who Loved Yngve... now you've got me curious so I'll google my way to knowledge. TKS, JF

Okay so far I have read Density of Souls by Christopher Rice-- good book. The first 3 books of the NightRunner series(still reading the 4th book)-- Good book. It's difficult because my library doesn't have alot of books that everyone has suggested and I really can't afford to go to bookstore( I just bought the NightRunner series). Thanks for the suggestions.

Just a quick update Love the Nightrunner series started reading them again. Not too thrilled with Mordred bastard son, but that's just me. Ordered Archers Heart by Astrid Amara,Scarlett and the White Crow by Kirby Crow and A Strange Fortune by Josh Laynon. So that's 2 science fanastys and one murder mystery. When I finish I'll update if there is an interest.

Well, i didn't read any gay related book till recently, well i've read Exquisite corpse by Poppy Z Brite (but that was more a book about psychos) and The Hours by Michael Cunningham (but it is more lesbian related).
But lately i've read some good ones, like the book of getting even by Benjamin Taylor or A Single Man by Christopher Isherwood. And my absolute favourite, At swim two boys by Jamie O'Neill, it's a really fantastic book with great characters and it is really well written.
I have some books with good reviews at home, like Call me by your name by Andre Aciman, the line of beauty by Alan Hollinghurst and The man who fell in love with the moon by Tom Spanbauer, but i didn't read any of them yet
