I like Ianto. He's very dryly funny, and yet he has some searingly vulnerable moments that break my heart (especially in "Adam"). He's gorgeous and brutally efficient. It worries me sometimes about just how unimportant Ianto originally was supposed to be, and that the show planned to kill him off last season, because that means he's just hanging on by a thread.
Ianto and Jack are a cute couple, but I've never been invested in their relationship because I don't think the show is invested. I think they were a small relationship which the show never expected to take off. I think the show expected a big fan following for Jack and Gwen, which has yet to happen. Will Ianto be sacrificed for that relationship?

I love those pictures too, I can hardly wait for the newest mini season! In case anyone doesn't know yet.... We now have an airdate for Torchwood: Children of Earth on BBC America! ;DThe miniseason now has a start date of July 20th 9/8c ... the same day that BBC America launches its first HD channel. SO now we can see Captain Jack and Ianto snogging in high def (Also, just before the start of the new season, at 8/7c, will be the one hour premiere of the Torchwood behind-the-scenes special, "In the Hub".) www.afterelton.com/blog/brianjuergens/afterelton-briefs-casey-spooner-big-torchwood-news-morewww.afterelton.com/node/26103www.bbcamerica.com/content/262/index.jspDVD release news: BBC Video and Warner Home Video will release the home videos on July 28th. The standard DVD format version will cost $29.98 SRP, and the high-definition Blu-ray Disc version will list at $34.99 SRP. Each is confirmed to be 2 discs, running approximately 300 minutes long. Bonus material consists of a "Torchwood Declassified: Behind the Scenes" featurette. The Blu-ray Disc release of Torchwood - The Complete 2nd Series, which was previously scheduled for July 7th, has been moved back to July 28th so it can come out on the same day as the Children of Earth set. It also ties both items in with the San Diego Comic Con, being held right around that time. www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Torchwood-Children-Of-Earth/12007Oh and as if we need more proof that John loves to mess with people:(I'm sure there are other technical theatre people out there with stories about John) www.afterelton.com/blog/brianjuergens/why-john-barrowman-will-never-host-dont-forget-lyrics

Does anyone know if the BBC is still planning on running all 5 episodes across a single week, and if so, if BBC America is following suit?

Does anyone know if the BBC is still planning on running all 5 episodes across a single week, and if so, if BBC America is following suit? Yes, according to BBC One's website (on the home page under about the show): "In one epic story told over five nights..." I don't know the details about the air times in the UK though sorry. www.bbc.co.uk/torchwood/BBC America also says that they will be airing the new Torchwood over 5 nights using the same wording, "In one epic story told over five nights..." www.bbcamerica.com/content/262/about-torchwood.jsp

Hello guys, I have managed to finish Torchwood Season 1 yesterday within 2 days. Hahaha. Anyway, I was kinda disappointed with the show to be honest. I mean I'm expecting something like something that deals with advance/futuristic technology/equipment and aliens in every episode, but somehow during some of the episodes, I thought I was watching "Buffy The Vampire Slayer"/"Charmed"/"Ghost Whisperer"/some US scary/thriller movies. It somehow didn't click with me coz "Torchwood" pretty suck at covering storylines like this. And I've got to admit there are some very cheesy parts esp. how they handle the love stories. But what I do like is that there try to focus on the humane qualities of every member in the team. And sometimes, I feel they build up the climax very well, but only to find the ending pretty sucky. My fav. episode gotta be the one where Captain Jack and Toshiko went back to the past and Captain Jack met the real Captain Jack and the last scene is really touching. Sometimes, when I was watching this, it kinda reminded me of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" (my fav. TV show ever). My fav. member gotta be Toshiko, she is so smart and charismatic, somewhat like Willow (my 2nd fav. member of the Scooby after Buffy). Now I'm at the beginning of Season 2. I've got to admit, it got better. And I really love the episode where Toshiko fell in love with the military guy who they kept frozen. It's a really sad story and the soldier is really CUTE!! But what I cannot fathom about the relationship with Ianto and Captain Jack. I mean there is barely any personal contact/conversation between these 2 but somehow at the end of Season 1 when Captain Jack got revived, he kissed Ianto on the lips. I got pretty puzzled coz it's very out-of-nowhere and practically there is no indication throughout the whole season that Ianto likes Captain Jack and vice-versa. And when I watched the 1st 3 episodes of Season 3, it occurs to me that Ianto has a sudden liking for Captain Jack. I felt it very strange how this liking developed suddenly. But nonetheless, I still like this pairing and I really like Ianto. He's kinda nerdy, geeky and goofy at the same time. He got this very confused yet cute expression on his face everytime. I believe there's some lovey feelings between Jack and Gwen and I hope they will not be fully developed, coz I want Ianto and Jack together! Okie, I've got to continue with the rest of season 2 and will be back with some comments if there is.

Overall, I agree about Jack/Ianto. There was SOME hint; after the conversation about the stopwatch, many of us figured out what was going on there. But on the whole, it did come out of nowhere. Even after two seasons, I still don't really see much about what they see in each other, how they function as a couple on a day-to-day level, what kind of character-driven stories could develop around them (other than jealousy over Jack's snogging everything in sight!), how they got together, etc. Frankly, they seem more like F*-buddies than a real couple, even though many gay and gay-adjacents have embraced them, and threatened to drop the show if they break them up.
And let's not forget, as we put the timeline of their relationship together, that not only does Jack flirt constantly, he was trying to sleep with the real Captain Jack at a time they must have been together. So I guess they have an open relationship? After more than a full season together, wouldn't it be nice to know even that much about the relationship of the lead character with one of the other main characters?
I like the show in a "get in touch with my inner adolescent" kind of way, but I don't get the idea that they're any kind of great or romantic couple.

We think very similarly about this pairing, davedoty. I like Jack and Ianto is alright but I don't get the whole Jack/Ianto thing. It's not a horrible pairing by any means and there is fun chemistry between them but it just doesn't work for me as a love story or great romantic pairing. When I see them together, I see fleeting fun not a encompassing love story. Obviously I am in the minority with that opinion but I am cool with that. ;D I really enjoyed the Jack/Jack episode in S1 and honestly preferred those two in just that one episode to any other pairing I've seen on the show.
