Short answer - when the current crop of moderators were added, the previous moderator did not give us control on membership. Global Administrators can review all boards and postings but are only the second level of moderation - Administrators have more access including approving new members. I think I have figured out how to change the Other Shows board to allow guest posting - if that works then I will go through the rest of the boards and make sure they all have the same permissions (Shortland Street's board was set for "anyone can reply to a thread" whereas the Other Shows board which includes Neighbours was set to "members and staff"). Thanks a lot for explaining the whole thing. I hope some Administrator out there will approve all pending accounts. Until then, I will need to use guest usernames all the time. I remember it took them three years to approve my account back when I requested one.

How incredibly bizarre. I haven't watched the show in months now, and it looks like I made the right decision. Did you guys only tune in for his return? I wasn't even aware that he was coming back.

I tuned in briefly for these scenes as well. Not a fan at all. The stuff with TK felt like it was out of a US soap - what are these writers thinking?! I agree, it's better to not have Jack on the show right now at all. And there is still so much focus on Dawn and Esther. It's a disaster.

I wouldn't hold my breath. Do you remember 2004-2014? There was effectively no gay male representation during that period. I wasn't watching before that but I believe there were essentially no gay male characters on the show for several years before that as well. Shortland Street simply doesn't prioritise gay male representation. And as you can see, they have no idea how to write for gay characters when they are present.

Yes, I think it is done. Good riddance. The bits and pieces that I see on instagram are awful. Perhaps they've found a new audience that enjoys this new style?

I also hate the revamp. Shortland Street feels like a completely different show now. I don't even recognise it anymore. Me too, it seems like they're trying to be like Grey's Anatomy with the intern storyline and the 'patients of the week' format. I don't mind Grey's Anatomy, but SS isn't Grey's Anatomy, I wish they'd stop trying to make show something it isn't. I wouldn't mind as much if the interns were actually interesting and captivating, but they seem very plain lol. The revamp has been critisised in general and the storylines are really boring, I won't be surprised if ratings have reduced. I think the show was much better around 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 etc, and it's kind of gone more downbill since then. But I was still able to tolerate and sometimes enjoy the storylines, but I literally don't enjoy any of the current storylines. Another problem I have is that they often don't follow through with storylines...if they're going to introduce a storyline or hint at a relationship, they actually need to follow through or at least acknowledge it. I agree. I really hate US-style TV so that idea doesn't appeal to me at all. What I really miss is the focus on the relationships between the characters. Having storylines centred around the family units on the show and all the fun little interactions between the staff members. Now there are no family units and very few cemented friendships. Somehow even with all the characters running around, the show feels so hollow. Maybe it's a lack of chemistry between the actors? Clumsy writing? I don't know. I've been rewatching old episodes lately and the vibe feels so different. 2017 and 2018 had their share of poorly executed storylines but at least the show still felt like Shortland Street.

I did end up watching Jack's exit, which I thought was awfully done. No farewell at all, and everything was centred around Dawn. And why are they acting like they're a couple?? Just ridiculous. No, literally! It was like Dawn was leaving with her one true love or something xeidheidei. So ridiculous. I'm sick of this show and I honestly hate the 'revamp.' I would much prefer focusing on the existing characters, (especially Jack) over these interns. Gosh, even Madonna is more interesting than them. I also hate the revamp. Shortland Street feels like a completely different show now. I don't even recognise it anymore.

Sad.. I would say we should keep discussing, but I stopped watching about two weeks ago. I’m done.

It’s a shame that they didn’t bring back the original actor for Harry. Hopefully the recast isn’t bad.
I really don’t get why the director is so insistent on putting Esther and Marty together. It’s just been a misery fest from start to finish.

It's all a mess. But Jack has felt like a straggler on the show nearly the entire time since his family left. When he said today that TK was like a mentor to him, I was like... since when? I don't remember them ever really interacting much at all. Was that all offscreen?

I wouldn’t blame Jack for leaving. His life has been 100% miserable since he returned to Ferndale. Maybe it’s time for an actual „fresh start“, which is something characters on this show are always on about.
