Salut kevfish...

Hard to believe I still remembered my password after all these months... This is like a trip down memory lane... a very long trip as a matter of fact... wish we could re-capture the way it was... but so much has changed... gone is DERO (my favourite couple)... gone is KISH (so very sweet)... Kevin and Scotty are but a memory kept alive via YouTube. We were all discovering daytime TV gay characters from around the world. We cursed the writers when couples split, when a character died, or something horrible happened to him... yet we quickly forgave those same writers as soon as a kiss was shared... hoping against all hope that the love that dared not speak its name would conquer all obstacles. We spent hours discussing Ollian's flat floor plan. We were so naïve, but so hopeful. That's what made this Blog so wonderful. And this Chat Thread was our way of allowing real life into the Blog... our kids, our work, our loved ones, the weather... the jobs we loved/hated (MOMNOC loved/FLOATILLA hated), ... we applauded Obama's election together (I think)... we felt terrible when nature wreaked havoc on areas Board members lived in (Australia, Italy, Canada, Scotland, the USA to name a few)... LOUISA introduced us to Merlin (some of us became diehard fans)... SHEEPIE shared with us his sorrow at the loss of a little one, and we all cried with him... some wanted to learn German so bad (that's how enthralled we were by DERO and OLLIAN). Basically, we discovered the world... ALDEBERAN's Italy, SHEEPIE's Scotland, LOUISA's Wales, AMBER80's Netherlands, MIKEY's Toronto, AUSSIE54's Australia, ELDANESH's Nova Scotia, PRINCESS OLLIAN's England, LOLARUNS' Germany, MOMNOC's California, RESTENERGY's Wisconsin/Minnesota, Roddieb's Newfoundland and Labrador... and so on and so forth. To think that Sheepie is now but a guest, as is Nanna and that Roddieb is not even a blip on our radar screen. Hope you all have as much fun as we did.
Take care one and all, JF
Amber80: hugs and kisses from across the pond. Love you sweetheart.

It's only a soap opera I kept telling myself... yet here I am, a grown man, crying like a baby... didn't want to... it just happened... not the first time I watched the clip mind you... but the second time, memories came flooding back and the sting in my eyes got to be too much and the cleansing process began... controlled at first, but soon uncontrollable... Stupid soap operas... how do dare remind me of what I've been trying to erase from my mind... JF

It's been a while since a show managed to get me crying . The Nora/Lorena clip did it. That's exactly how it was when my father died (at home though)... right down to the tear slowly making its way down his cheek... incredibly powerful... so realistic... One has to have to have experienced death to understand...

*whispers**** hi... Its been a while, popping in to say hello..... Happy Earth hour to those who will participate..... XOXO Hi floatilla... what a most pleasant surprise. Earth Hour is now a thing of the past here... meaning it ended a couple of minutes ago. I cheated. I had a lamp on in the living room... but that's all that was on. I have so many questions... but I'll refrain for now... Allow me to ask one: Have you got yourself a new job? or gone back to school? That's it... not too bad eh? Feel free to pop back in. Miss you, JF

Here's the link: www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/2042397Yes, I'm biaised... glad to admit I've been a fan of his work since day one. Take a few minutes from your busy schedule to check the book preview. Have a good week-end you all, JF

Good to have you back aussie54. Aren't you a bit young to have knee replacement surgery? Hope everything is ok. Re. MM... definitely not my type. Watched LTR and Gone but not Forgotten... so didn't do it for me... A movie marathon? You're a brave soul. What's the situation like in Australia now? Back to some sort of normalcy? Nothing much is written about Australia anymore... New Zealand came and went, then Japan... now it's all about Lybia. I so wish we'd be kept updated. Take care, JF

I abhor violence... whatever form it takes... I don't need to be reminded that it exists... all one has to do is read the paper, watch the news. Too bad the writers had to revert to it to make a point (if such was the case). They've obviously never seen blood splattered on white snow... trust me... once is enough.

OMG OMG THERE ARE PEOPLE! *needs a moment to compose herself* Running in and out unfortunately but thought I'd post quickly to say I'm still here and I miss you all!!!!! Hi there... felt like saying we're coming out of the woodwork... but figured "coming out of the snowbank" might be more appropriate (in my case that is)... anyway... hope you've composed yourself by now. Nice hearing ;D from you again. Teaching? Still Merlin crazy? Sleuthing? Hope life is treating you well, jf Take care one and all. PS I talked earlier about the freezing rain... here's the result: Malus berries... Backyard Linden tree: Sure was pretty. You all sleep well now.

Wow! That's a lot of snow...! Good thing I posted those pics when I did... freezing rain and rain started two days later. It doesn't look anything like it anymore. Hope you got the homework done. It's all a matter of priorities. I have a fair bit of reading to do before tomorrow afternoon's meeting and I really don't feel like it but it's got to be done. Very sweet of you. Tks Time to do the dishes (I know... it's late... but I can't stand waking up to dirty dishes), then bed. Sleep well. Take care one and all, JF.

For those Board members who wander this way... I'd like you to check Restenergy.net... He's got new pics posted. Worth the detour. Amber... I should have waited before making my snow comments... more than 40 cms have fallen since march 4th. That'll teach me. I should have some pics up soon. Thinking of you. Here are some pics: Take care one and all, JF.

Just because I feel like sharing something sweet... ;D I really need some encouraging pushes. So much to do and not in the mood for a thing at all. *sigh* Thanks for the cupcakes... I too feel for something sweet right now. I've got a chocolate cake, but I didn't bother icing it... I think I'm getting lazy. So you dropped out of Law School... and here I was hoping to have a lawyer friend at last... guess I'll have to do without. But I can live with two history-teaching friends. I majored in History at college (not university; our system is a bit strange... college first - grades 13 and 14 - then university). If there's one thing I've learned in life is that one must go with what feels right. Combining your love of history with your love of children seems like a match made in teacher's heaven. How come you still have three years to go? Couldn't you get credited for some of the courses you've already taken? or are you going part-time? What does Jarno call you? Auntie? (the Dutch equivalent of course... which is what btw?) Merlin... V is now running Season 2 (translating takes a while), but that's ok. I miss the British accent though. Re your parents... sorry to read they're having heart problems. As long as they're careful. My mum had two mild strokes and you'd never have guessed... that how good the meds were. Re snow... nothing to write home about really. Very little by our Saguenay standards. We got about 20 cms a few days ago and that was the first major snowfall this winter. I'll post some pics later. OH... but it's been cold though... my heating bill is hitting the roof. Re X-mas... I'll PM. I'm as busy as ever. Currently going door to door distributing Church Donation receipts. Incredible ... got to talk with a number of elderly people... it breaks my heart... the loneliness... Given your job, I'm sure you understand what I mean. I've got to do something. Not sure exactly what, but I've got ideas. I am still volunteering at the Alzheimer/Dementia centre. Love it... love the people... The head nurse told me to be careful though as I tend to get too attached. I know she's right, but I have so much love to give and I don't know how to mete it out. It's always a case of all or nothing with me. Whenever one of the patients dies, I can almost hear my heart ripping... I miss the old gang... momnoc, restenergy, louisa, Princess Ollian, aldebaran, mikey, aldi etc.... But we all have a life away from this Board. Wonder how they're doing. That's it for now. Take care one and all, jf.

Hey! ;D Thought I should drop by here as well since I just came out of lurkdom in the GTST board. Could hardly skip saying 'hi' here, could I? So: HI! (And Neand: hope you had a great X-mas as well... Missed you btw! x) Glad you delurked Amber. Missed you too btw... a lot. Xmas was ok... different, but ok. I'll explain later. How's Jarno? Hard to imagine how long it's been, but I'm now a great-uncle for a third time. Ni2 had boy in March, and Ni1 had a girl in November. All are doing well. Did I read right? You've dropped out of Law and are going for a new Major? Started yet? Going ok? Still working? How's the family? I'm getting more hooked on Merlin than I thought possible. If it hadn't been for you and Louisa I'd never have watched that show. Thanks. Take care sweetheart... JF

Hello people, wherever you are. Thought I'd drop by for a quick visit. It's now official...February 2010 is in the record books as the warmest in recorded history (6°C / 11°F above average). Looks like March is heading that way too, maple sap is already flowing...
Last Sunday I attended Guarda Nueva's Tango concert... The five music students gave us a musical moment none of us will ever forget. A hit... the crowd would not let them go... and the musicians did not want to leave either, so we had two long encores... strictly Piazzolla... the master of the New Argentinian Tango. The Tango leaves no one indifferent... you either love it or hate it... passionately, for it is a music of raw passion... When I the concert ended I was beat... I don't know what the future has in store for the quintet since three of the students are graduating this year... at least I know I'll the opportunity to attend another Guardia Nueva performance in June... already looking forward to it.
This evening was modern dance... flabbergasting... some numbers were mesmerizing... the bodies seemed to float. The five technically excellent dancers, two males and three females, took us on a journey through love, despair, and back to love... couples formed (gay, lesbian, hetero), parted ways... and new ones formed... That's the second time this year I get to applaud the daring of our artistic community... The place was nearly packed... from 18 year olds to 70+ year olds (that surprised me but in a very pleasant way)... some people might have been shocked but nobody left... I had the chance to talk to the choreographer after the performance and he was delighted with the response from the audience. He was not sure what to expect. BTW... he is absolutely gorgeous.
Ok... time I hit the sack... big day tomorrow... I'll let you know how the play was.
Take care one and all, JF

Hi folks... no need to go fainting on me... it's okay if you feel lightheaded though ;D ;D ;D Sorry for being away so long. My excuses: 1. The Olympics... as you know I don't have cable (if you didn't, now you do)-- so neanderthalish of me. So I hadn't been watching, other than the odd clip on V (the absolute worst TV channel ever to disgrace the airwaves -- its only saving grace: it broadcasts Merlin). So to make a long story longer... I discovered that CTV had the whole thing on the net... all free of charge... you can guess what happened... I spent an inordinate amount of hours switching from one event to the next... then watching clips in between... thus an addict was born. I still had to deal with RL though... at times reluctantly I'll admit. Let me proclaim that I loved every second of every minute... sports have always been an important part of my life, so it was not very difficult to dive in. And the fact the Canadians did so well certainly contributed to my nearly compulsive behaviour. When the whole thing ended, I went through a withdrawal phase... ::)what was I going to do? 2. RL caught up with me... that answers the previous question. B2's bday (lovely); Ni4's mid-term break; parish work (however challenging that might be); volunteer work (love, love, love it). 3. Weather... sublime... so walk I did (nearly ODing on vitamin D... ;D)) Next week is my artsiest week in a long time... Concert on Sunday (Tango quintet - Guardia Nueva), Modern dance Show on Thursday (Schème Danse), Play on Friday (Pi)... Then I'll be away for a week (Québec City here I come) visiting friends and family. Granted it's not cast in concrete yet. amber thanks for all the explanations... I understand what you mean when you say it would have been easier in Dutch... I feel the same way... it would be so much simpler writing things in French. But you did a wonderful job. Isn't Wiki great? ;D Émilie doesn't walk yet, and she's turning ONE on the 14th. Am I expecting too much? restenergy I'm still around... will be in touch. Are you enjoying the new equipment? Is work keeping you very busy? I Love Thore Nice having you around. I was so pleased to read your reaction to the two young guys holding hands. It would be such a wonderful world if everybody was like you. Nothing wrong with being a f**hag btw. nana29 what a pleasant surprise. You can keep dropping by anytime you feel like it. Time I call it a day... Take care one and all, JF

Well, ice-fishing season is over... all the huts have been ordered off the Saguenay by Fisheries and Ocean Canada, the department fearing for the safety of the ice-fisher(men/women)... this is the shortest fishing season in recorded history, barely 30 days... a direct consequence of the temps we've been having... could end up being the warmest winter in recorded history... and the World Ice and Snow Sailing Championship which was to be held in La Baie has also had to be cancelled. This is a major blow to the regional tourism industry... amber speed skating is to your country what, to a certain extent, hockey is to ours. The Nederlands has always been a speed skating powerhouse. I still can't believe that Sven Kramer's coach could make such a mistake. What did have to say for himself? I feel terrible for Sven Kramer. I hope your sorrows have been well and truly drowned... Are you off tomorrow? You might need it to recover from your hangover... ;D momnoc Can I go for a cybervisit? This CNY seems like so much fun... You are fantastic. You can put monopoly money in my envelope... I love this thread... all the things I get to learn. Around here, the latest sweet-craze is sour-tasting candies... that's about all you can find in the candy stores... wonder what the Kitchen God would have to say to the Jade Emperor. We'd all be stricken off his list... I need to read on the Jade Emperor... Good CNY day celebrations... Bolshoi + Cirque du Soleil + skates = a Gold medal performance by Canadian ice-dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. I have watched their final routine god knows how many times, and I still get goosebumps. I'll wait until tomorrow to watch Joannie Rochette's short program. As most people probably know by now, her mom died of a heart attack the day she arrived in Vancouver to see Joannie perform. Joannie decided to compete... I have no clue where she gets the inner strength ... Time for me to call it a night. Take care one and all, JF

I'm beat... spent the morning playing postman, going from one mailbox to the next distributing leaflets and receipts for the parish. It is now official... I HATE DOGS. Enough said. And to think I volunteered to do the same thing again tomorrow morning. I wonder how hard it is to fake amnesia... Snow... I would not want anyone to think that there's no snow... total snowfall so far: 215cm (a touch over 7 feet)... it's just that it doesn't feel like winter (I like it cold). louisa wow... I don't recall seeing snowflakes that big either... at least you made it to your destination all in one piece. restenergy those photographs of yours are just out of this world. I agree with you about the people hired to do the sound. I was not the only one to leave... according to a friend of mine, it seems I got the ball rolling. momnoc Thanks. Émilie is doing very well. If everything goes according to plan, I should be visiting them second week in March. Ah those caucasians... I'm stuffing the envelopes from the back because that's where the flap opens... I need visuals... isn't this the way envelopes are? ;D or is this me being thick? Tell me, are all the envelopes red? Are the teachers doing it too? or is it just a Miss Momnoc thing? Wouldn't surprise me. Are you all tanned and rested? Why I love Ice Dancing: That's it for me. Take care one and all, JF

amber Mark Tuitert's gold... wonderful news. After everything he's been through... well deserved. I felt really bad for Stefan Groothuis... he looked so dejected. Do you know if they're both going to be in the team pursuit? I want Stefan to get a medal.
louisa Go Merlin Go... as you can see, I'm getting there. Just out of curiosity: how much snow is there on the ground? BTW... nice having you around.

Morning folks... yesterday was pretty busy with cooking, Centre de Jour, rushing to get concert tickets, rushing home to have supper, rushing to get to the concert's live feed venue (about a 30-minute walk). There would have been no need to rush had the concert started at 20:00 (8PM)... but because the orchestra was catching a plane back to Montréal at 22:10 (as long as they were back at Place des Arts before midnight, then no overtime needed be paid... very tight budget - strange but true unfortunately. I wonder how the musicians felt about it ;D). So anyway, concert started at 19:00 (7PM), hence the rushing. Turned out I need not have bothered getting tickets... no one asked for them. No problem really. There were about 300 people each going through her/his own dance routine to keep warm, all the while moving about seeking slush-free spots (it had rained earlier in the afternoon). At precisely 19:00 Maestro Nagano raised his baton, and at precisely 19:00 the freezing drizzle started... major crowd movement... umbrellas popped open (a most extraordinary sight... at 19:00, in February, in Saguenay). Now... don't know how many of you have attended those rock/heavy metal concerts where the basic idea is to have the volume so loud it alters your hearing and numbs your brain... so you can't notice how bad the band really is... that's what it felt like last night... AAAARGH!!! Tuque on, parka hood up, hands over ears (the hell with the umbrella)... nothing doing... no way could we escape the noise onslaught and more importantly the vibrations which, via the frozen ground, insidiously reached for our innards and, I am nearly certain, may have affected one's reproductive capabilities (I could have been a good dad you know : . So after 25 minutes I decided that enough was enough... why wait so long? I kept hoping that the people responsible would realize the error of their ways and lower the volume. Guess what... I heard the music all the way home. The best seat in the house? My back porch. Who would have thought. It was actually pretty nice. ;D amber I read both articles... Geert Wilders demagogue like him thrive on fear; they feed on political, economical and social uncertainties, and know exactly how to exploit people's emotions. Is this still in his program? -> Replacement of the present Article 1 of the Dutch constitution, guaranteeing equality under the law, by a clause stating the cultural dominance of the Christian, Jewish and humanist traditions.-> An immigration ban of five years for immigrants from non-western countries. Foreign residents will no longer have the right to vote in municipal elections. How long is the campaign going to last? Good luck. Your friend got her Ph.D. in what? How many people attended? It must have been quite an experience. It's great when you can witness the result of all the hard work. No wonder you're proud. I'll probably post a few pics later... take care one and all, JF
