thismorning.itv.com/thismorning/showbiz/weatherfield-downton-abbeyNot sure if people outside the UK can get this . It's a daytime chatshow interview with Rob James Collier who plays Thomas the footman. Can't see it on YT . Don't know if the Duke story will be revisited at some point later in the series, but Rob James Collier does talk about his character "getting the wrong end of the stick with a visiting Turkish diplomat where he gets unstuck" in episode 3 ;D.

Thank you Anthony for bringing us this show. I love costume dramas. Next week seems promising.

Too bad Kemal's life ended prematurely. Of course it had to, in order to generate drama for the rest of the series ... having Daisy witness Cora, Mary and Anna moving the corpse does serve a purpose. But it was unfortunate in that we won't get to see the beauty that is Theo James on the show again. As for Thomas, I gather from Rob James Collier's interview on the official show website that he will be playing quite a nasty character and the most recent episode really emphasized that. It was interesting to see the gay guy as the bully instead of the bullied (not that bullying is to be condoned whoever does it!). I felt quite sorry for William. I am torn between amusement and exasperation at Daisy: joining in Thomas's bullying of William and not understanding the cook's warnings about him not being "a ladies' man". It's taken me a while but Matthew (Lord Grantham's new heir) is played by Dan Stevens who is probably most recognized for playing the gay lead in the miniseries "Line of Beauty". He's a bit fuller in the face now, and the hair is shorter and blonder, but the eyes are unmistakable - can't believe I missed it for so long! Maybe it's time Thomas tried it out with Matthew instead?

i think one of the reasons i like this show so much is because i am so taken with Dan Stevens (that and i love British mini-series, especially period dramas). i'm actually looking forward to this show airing on PBS in the states in January to watch it in it's entirety.

Downton Abbey's creator/headwriter, Julian Fellowes, has been hit by allegations of plagiarism. The scenes in question involved the Dowager Countess's awarding of the Grantham Cup for best bloom to old Mr. Molesley (allegedly copied from the film Mrs. Miniver) and Mrs. Patmore sprinking salt instead of sugar on top of the dessert (allegedly stolen from the novel Little Women). Fellowes was quite upset about the whole thing.
In other news, the show has been recommissioned for a second series. Based on spoilers for the season finale, Thomas won't be a part of it. He gets caught stealing and the earl wants to dismiss him, but Thomas preempts him by resigning to work in the army medical corps.
As for the Crawley family, Matthew proposes to Mary but she delays accepting when they learn her mother is having a late-in-life pregnancy. If the child is a boy, he will stand to inherit the title and the estate. However, the pregnancy ends in a miscarriage when Miss O'Brien, the countess's maid and Thomas's frequent partner-in-crime, is misinformed by him that Cora is looking for a new maid and arranges an accident for her. Later it turns out Cora was looking for a maid for her mother-in-law, but the information comes too late to stop Cora from miscarrying her son. Thomas makes a callous remark about the tragedy which earns him a punch from William, and Daisy begins to see the two footmen's respective true natures. Mary wants to accept Matthew's proposal but the delay has ticked him off, and the Crawleys find themselves in the same position they did when the Titanic sunk.

Will Thomas get a storyline before this season is over?

Will Thomas get a storyline before this season is over? The spoilers in my post above yours are pretty much the extent of Thomas's storyline for this Sunday's season finale. As far as I can tell, it will revolve entirely around his thievery, and not at all about his sexuality.

I wondered if Thomas would be back in season 2 given that he went off to war so I was glad to read that the actor signed up for the second season. It'll be interesting to see how Thomas is changed by war.

Thanks for that interesting bit of news, Anthony. I can't imagine how Thomas will come back into the story given that he will no longer be welcome at Downton now that the Earl knows he is a thief. Unless he's badly injured in the war and the Crawleys feel sorry for him or something along those lines ...
I have to confess that I was disappointed by Charlie Cox's guest stint being a one-off. I really hope we will see his character (the visiting duke who was Thomas's lover) again in some capacity. The two seemed to have had a quite a intense relationship so it was unfortunate that they cut it off abruptly. It would have been nice to explore it some more if Thomas sees the duke again ... okay, it would also be hot to see them make out again. (I'm glad RJC and Charlie Cox inserted that unscripted moment into their scene.)

I hate the Spanish horrible dubbed voices. It sounds incredibly stupid, and I love the Spanish language. I love Spain. I still think dubbing is completely ridiculous and it's why Spaniards are so bad in English. Anyway.. yeah, I love the show, and I can't wait for the next season. I love the fact that Thomas will be back. I hope we get more gay inclusive storylines with him, even though I very much enjoyed his storylines not related to his sexuality too. I don't think all gay characters have to have everything connected to their sexuality, as long as they're involved in interesting storylines, and I think Downton Abbey did that well with Thomas. His storyline abut doing everything it took to advance was extremely well done. And it's not like he didn't get storylines involved with his sexuality either, he got both, which is great. I think he's one of the most interesting characters I've seen in a while. It's nice to see a gay character being a jerk too. It's not because he's gay, but because he's an a-hole. His personality is awful, and he's extremely selfish. I guess I just like the fact that we have complex gay characters, also those who are not likable. Gays are just like everyone else, some are nice, some are not so nice, and Thomas falls into the latter category.

Yes, they dubbing it. Usually the dubbing is quite good, but in some shows is awful (i remember watching episodes of Brother and sisters in portugal, and then watching it in spain and it was painful, not only for the voices but for the really poor translation).
And yes, Thomas is a great character, and he is a jerk, but sometimes he is right, because some of the other servants put their bosses feelings and problems first, he is doing the right thing, putting himself first. Well, he has a lot of "qualities" that make him an interesting character, yes he is evil, but he is charming too

If we could decide who we loved, it would be much simpler, but less magical.

I wonder if Thomas was ever interested Branson or/and Matthew? They're both very good looking and charming.
