Thanks for translating Aldi! Very interesting to hear their thoughts about it... And how those moments will continue to influence their present interactions.

Thanks so much, placebo -- he is far too humble, but I guess that's a good thing. If he had a big head to match his talent, we'd be in trouble. Best of luck with the studying!!

Remember how Dennis used to write a column for the magazine "Du und Ich" but stopped a while ago? If you don't, nevermind, I don't think any of those texts ever made it to the internet. But that has changed now, thanks again to the lovely Annika from the f*ghags.de message board, who is awesome. She somehow got her hands on one of those old magazines and decided to share what Dennis had to say about parenthood, so to speak. (Sadly German only, again. Don't feel like I could do an appropriate translation. ) But then again, you can always look at the cute picture of Dennis and his goddaughter, just to make your life better... i756.photobucket.com/albums/xx208/Annika200/Kolumne_08_2007.jpg

LOL. That's awesome (and very inconveniently reminds me of what a horrible godmother I'm turning out to be, lol - at least his goddaughter should grow up with some interesting stories )

Hee! (Thinking vastly inappropriate thoughts about a bed-rumpled Dennis G. :>)
Ladies, I know you're not officially involved with this event, but are you in the know at all about the boys' activities, and/or making plans for your EKP minions in attendance? From the schedule, it looks like D/I might be Saturday only, so I'm torn about registering for the full meeting. (I know, not a Chrolli fan? What's wrong with me?)

Oooh please come! ;D
Well, as it turns out, since Saturday is going to be the main AWZ day, EKP's going to be more involved (especially in the party, where we're hoping Igor will MC!). There's also going to be a Q&A that day that they'll be involved in. So you'll definitely want to get a ticket for that day.
They're also going to be at the cocktail party mixer on Friday and the brunch on Sunday, which you'll need the VIP ticket for, and they will likely be hanging around at the other events, too. There are going to be some perks to for people with the VIP ticket, so if you can afford it, it'd be great to do it.
But at the very least, you must be there on Saturday!!!

Dennis was interviewed (yet again) by the inofficial fanpage (are they ever going to do one of these with Igor?!) I started to translate it, but it's kind of long and difficult... and translating is much more difficult than writing something completely in your own words. Long story short, I failed. But maybe someone else feels like translating/transcribing.. Or not. www.awz-fanpage.de/userinterview-mit-dennis-grabosch/2010/01/16/

Gah, I wasn't going to, and then I read it and of course he has to go and be all interesting, lol.
With a big thanks to the folks at awz-fanpage.de for doing these interviews:
palmkind: Were you happy when you heard that the love story of Roman and Deniz would continue, or would you have preferred a different partner? Dennis Grabosch: I was scared because I had very much wanted to bring the story to a proper conclusion, but by that point so many people had jumped ship that I was very interested in how the writers and producers would resume the story. And they’ve really surpassed themselves. There were entire blocks that you could really just act off the script without objections.
tady: Roman went through a huge development if you think back to how he started out. How do you like that development? Would you have wanted him to take a different direction? Dennis Grabosch: I thought Roman and Axel were very interesting but it wasn’t meant to be. And you can’t just present the viewers with ONLY complicated and fucked-up relationships. Although I really enjoy acting and watching those. But Nina belonged with Axel, just like Deniz belongs with Roman, and that’s a good thing. Without overestimating my own influence, I think I can dare to say that I’m not entirely uninvolved in what direction he took. We have fantastic directors and writers who pay very close attention to what we do and pick up on it. The producers and the network are very open-minded and let us get away with a lot; and when they like what they see, they support an organic development for the characters and storylines.
Arwen: Your professional vita so far is very expansive, with lots of very different roles. If you had to do a Top Five of all the parts you’ve played, which would they be? (you can assign several parts to one position!) Dennis Grabosch: - Ein Fall für 2 - Schneller als der Zug - Über den Dächern von Marseille - Wolffs Revier - Zwischen den Sternen But I wouldn’t want to miss any of the things I’ve done. I think everything you do moves you forward, even if there are some things where you want to burn the negatives. What I mostly associate with any shoot, though, is interacting with the people I met there, rather than the project itself. And I’ve always had the best encounters in productions that many colleagues would roll their eyes at and say, “Were you really that broke or why did you act in this shit?” Those are the kinds of questions that make me roll my eyes.
Arwen: You’re a role model for many young people, both on the show and in real life. What kind of advice would you give to young (or older) people who want to come out but are afraid of negative reactions? Dennis Grabosch: Am I really a role model? Do I want to be?! I don’t know. Everything inside me protests that, which by the way is one of the reasons why there are seven hundred and twenty-eight pictures of me with a cigarette in my mouth. At the end of the day, my shit stinks as much as anyone else’s. I don’t make any more or fewer mistakes than anyone else, and I’d like to have that known. I don’t like it when people try to sell celebrities as people who are miles above it all – that’s nonsense and leads to expectations that no one can live up to.
Arwen: On AWZ, the character of Roman has experienced negative attitudes towards gay people. Has anything like that ever happened to you in real life (not necessarily as violent as on the show!), and how do you handle that? Dennis Grabosch: In the world I live in and with the people in my life, the fact that I’m gay is really not an issue. I am who I am. But for as long as I’m playing Roman Wild, it’s going to be a topic that’s close to my heart. Because I’m forced to deal with the extent to which the character’s sexual orientation influences his development and actions on a daily basis.
x3Bimbolinex3: Would you like to shoot another skating championship event? Dennis Grabosch: No more championships, please! Those put a pressure to perform on me that isn’t necessary. Also, I think the story of Roman’s active skating career has come to an end and in retrospect I’m glad that it existed. For me, Roman has always represented a realistic counterpart to the girls who lived their dreams and ended up winning first place. It’s important to tell the story of people who succeed in following their dreams and emerge victorious, but there can only be one winner. Roman’s character represents all those people who don’t reach their goals, and especially these days I think it’s great that we can tell a story of how you can be happy in spite of that, because there are more important things than your career. Roman can be proud of himself even though he hasn’t reached his goal of being No.1. He’s got friends and is with someone he loves. x3Bimbolinex3: Who’s your favourite person to act with? Dennis Grabosch: I don’t have a favourite person to act with – I don’t believe in labelling people like that. Our directors and the other actors have different approaches to our work that may appeal to me more or less but at the end of the day it’s my job to find a balance between the “job instructions” and the things that I want to contribute myself, and to put that into action the best way I can. Ideally, I can pull that off regardless of any personal likes or dislikes.
fashii0n_lik3_a: Do you have a lot in common with Roman? Dennis Grabosch: Naturally, the way I play Roman is influenced by my own experiences because I’ve got to come up with motivations for his actions, and I dislike purely technical acting. That’s not always easy because there’s a lot of me in Roman, especially after DeRo 2.0. By the way, I think it’s funny that so many of you have got issues with Roman since then. What’s rather practical is that I personally can hide behind a lot of the things that Roman does. If Roman was exactly like me, I think there’d be fewer people who would like him. As Roman, I was able to do lots of things that I personally never allowed myself to do. fashii0n_lik3_a: If you were in Roman’s place, would you have forgiven Jenny again? Dennis Grabosch: Roman doesn’t have to forgive Jenny because they never had an actual falling out. He simply put some distance between them. If she only took a step towards him, she’d be met with open arms.
anred: Deniz and Roman’s relationship has gone and still goes beyond the borders of Germany. There are lots of DeRo fans in the US and Canada who watch AWZ on YouTube (with subtitles). Why do you think this particular storyline is so popular in other countries? Dennis Grabosch: It’s a story with a high potential of identification for people who don’t see the world through rose-coloured glasses and who know that the really beautiful things in life are the small moments in which people find each other and take a step towards each other. In retrospect I’m very grateful for DeRo 2 – it’s hard to describe but I don’t really need to. It’s too private and nobody’s business. There are so many people on our team and elsewhere to whom I’m incredibly grateful for their support. This story’s success is due to so many people that I sometimes think it’s a pity I can’t just yell it out for the world to know. But I don’t have to – the story stands up on its own and anyone who disagrees is welcome to watch the selected clips on EKP and tell me what exactly they disagree with.
tady: How do you juggle both your professional and your personal life? Dennis Grabosch: I don’t have a personal life – instead of doing something with my husband I’m sitting here answering your questions *laughs*
anred: You live in London. Do you have a second flat in Cologne or do you commute? Dennis Grabosch: My husband commutes more than I do, and of course I’ve got a second flat in Cologne – if I forced him to sleep at the studio, I’d really be in trouble.
Miri_liebt_AWZ: What do you do outside of AWZ? What are your hobbies when you don’t have to study scripts? Dennis Grabosch: I don’t do much outside of AWZ… and whenever I find myself unable to say no to something and go for it, I end up furiously kicking myself in the arse and asking myself why I did it. To quote Annette: “Those 24 hours already include the night.”
AWZ-Freak: It was mentioned in an interview in a foreign magazine that originally Roman wasn’t supposed to get together with Deniz. According to the plan for the show back then, Roman was supposed to get together with a different character. Who was that, and why? Dennis Grabosch: The gay storyline in the original script ended with a loss for Roman’s character in favour of his partner’s development. I liked that story a lot. It doesn’t really matter who the other character was… attentive viewers with an eye for gay issues might have been able to see hints in those first blocks that showed which character was assigned homosexual tendencies by the script. That stopped, of course, once the character was developed in a different direction.
GabiMarga: Which question gets on your nerves the most? Dennis Grabosch: I think questions that have nothing to do with the story are weird, or questions like what’s my favourite food… I mean, what would it really tell people about myself if the answer was “steamed kohlrabi”? GabiMarga: What did you always want to get off your chest but were never asked about? Dennis Grabosch: After DeRo 1, there were loads of questions that I would have loved to answer but after DeRo 2 there’s actually nothing at the moment that I haven’t already answered exhaustively.

Thanks so much Placebo and Aldi! *smooches* This quote had me LOLing... There were entire blocks that you could really just act off the script without objections. Entire blocks! Imagine that! ;D And how relieved the writers/directors must've been! I still wish that Roman had won, just once, and I am very sad that the Gay Games plot wasn't played out to its conclusion because I think that could have been remarkable. Still, to hear him explain it like this... I have to begrudgingly admit that, yeah, it does make sense. You can yell it out! We'll listen. (Also, shameless EKP pimp!! *loves*)

I wonder which character he is talking about? I've never noticed anything when I was watching early eps, guess I'm not very attentive The options are limited though, I guess? Julian was always meant for Diana, and Tim and Ben were only 16 back then... which doesn't necessarily preclude them from involvement with Roman, since Deniz was only 17 when they met, but as far as I remember, neither of them interacted much with Roman. Richard seems highly unlikely That leaves Ingo, Mike and Axel. (And possibly Keule? ;D) I guess the obvious choice is Ingo since they've always had the bromance thing, although if I had to take a definite guess, I think I'd actually say Mike, lol. (Am I missing anyone really obvious?)
